    Default diet help...no energy

i decided to lose some weight, mostly so i'll have less weight to lift on the pole, but i find it hard to keep my energy up. i'm probably just not dieting right, so i thought i'd ask for help.

what foods do you eat that are low-cal but keep you energized for work, the gym, and all that other necessary stuff?

what kind of diet are you on? what are some of things you have been eating? Lean protein and veggies and fruit are best!

First of all...calories are just a way of measuring energy. Your body ABSOLUTELY NEEDS a certain amount of calories a day just for normal bodily functions. If you are wanting to lose weight, you do not necessarily need to cut down on the calories...but you most likely will need to adjust your intake of carbs, fats, sugars. You should also be eating about 5-6 times per day (three meals, 2-3 mid-meals). Working out daily (cardio 3 days a week, weights 3 days a week) will help also.

    Good luck!

I don't know if its supplied in America but I have found that if I have vegie juice (ie I love V8 "hot and spicy") it helps increase my energy levels. It allows me to get my vegie requirements without too much hassle (besides, our body is mostly fluids so drinking vegies in a liquid form would be easier for the body to process ??)...

That and exercising regularly. If you exercise enough and eat right (most of the time.. you are human and allowed the occasional slip up)... you shouldn't have any energy problems.

Also try mineral and vitamin suppliments as your body might not be receiving enough minerals and vitamins from the food you eat (even fresh fruit and vegies lack these days due to poor soil nutritients etc).

I eat 5-6 small meals a day, and hit the gym 2-3 times a week... I have lost a ton of weight without being hungry or tired.

The trick to the eating is that you eat whether you are hungry or not. Every 2.5-3 hours, have a small meal. The best are prepared things, because they have a lot of what you need and help you add variety. The biggest thing to keep in mind is portion control!! If you are having meat, only eat 4oz; if you cook some pasta, measure the "serving size", don't gorge on something, just because it is good for you, like fruit... read up on appropriate servings and eat that much... you want 2-3 "servings" of food a meal.

If you decide to make the switch, here are some example meals of mine:
    - bagel with light cream cheese, and egg
    - cottage cheese and applesauce (or any fruit)
    - breakfast bar, plus banana
    - meal bar
    - spaghetti-o's and hot dog (fat free)
    - pudding (fat free is just as good) and 4oz lunch meat (low fat)
    - chicken breast, pasta, tomato sause
    - steak, plus steamed veggies, plus 1/2 baked potato
    - pork chop (these are really low in fat), rice-a-roni, steamed veggies
    - lean cuisine
    - "smart ones" has good pizzas
    - yogurt and 2 rice cakes

also, if you go to ediets.com, they have a daily email that includes a recipe... some are good, some are OK... try them out and start a recipe box of meals that are good for you.

this is something that has been really important to me and I have done a lot of homework, and lost a lot of weight. send me a message if you decide to try this and want more meal ideas than I can come up with off the top of my head.

I just recently purchased a book titled, "The Doctor's Book of Food Remedies". Fabulous publication. The section on fatigue recommends roughly three to four ounces of protien rich food to boost energy levels. But be careful not to pair it with fat, since digesting it diverts blood from the brain, causing that sluggish feeling.
But of course, also getting your recommended amount of fruits and veggies is good for an overall energy lift. Vitamin C and iron are also essential for energy.

yup. we've got that here too. i like the low sodium kind. haven't had any in a while, though.

since i posted this thread, i've been taking my vitamins (which i hadn't done in a while) and eating more fruits and veggies, and i've been feeling much better.

i had gotten into a bad habit of eating junk...it really does fuck you up. while i was in "withdrawl" i was really sluggish. i'll be making a way bigger effort to avoid that stuff now that i'm okay again.
