Default did i get the brush-off? can't tell.

So, I went to the club I want to work at, and talked to the manager yesterday. I asked if I could audition. He said that the audition is usually just working and seeing how you do. But then he said that they already had three new girls on and they don't like to have too many at a time. So he had me fill out an application and said they would call me tomorrow, meaning today, to have me come in. The application was simply a paper asking for my name and stage name (I went with Monique), saying "This Club will license the above named entertainer for approximately $4 per hour" and I signed it. I mean, it was not a job application - it was just a licensing agreement for the state of AZ.

No one has called me and I am afraid they have blown me off. I wonder, should I call them this evening? I have tomorrow off from work, and they prefer you to come during the day so I might just go back tomorrow and ask if I can audition. Is it reasonable to have to be persistent like that? I talked to the owner a month ago on the phone and he said "You'd make money- I can tell. It might take a week to catch on but you have a great personality so you will make money. It's just a matter of how much. Trust me. Just go in and tell them you talked to Mike." I mentioned that and I just can't tell if I'm getting the brush off here. What should my next step be?

I NEED a job that makes a fair amount of money in fewer hours while i'm in grad school- starting in the fall. I'm desperate.

thanks in advance for your advice and encouragement. I guess that's what I'm looking for...

You probably did get the brush off by that particular manager because normally they will hire you and book you on the spot. The good news is that there is probably more than one manager that can hire dancers.

I suggest trying another club, or if you really want to work at that club, go in again when a different manager is there.

Thanks for the reply and I guess I will try again.

Now I'm kinda depressed. I think I came across as shy and I did not wear something revealing at all, assuming I would be changing into the outfit I had brought. I just really want to be a stripper and I don't know what I can do! I mean, I am NOT shy at all; in fact I am outrageouly fun and flirtatious. When we were hanging out at the club on Sat. night there were women working who had my exact body type, curvy with large natural breasts. And like three guys asked me if I worked there and one guy asked me for a dance. So I know I have potential. When I go up to talk to a manager I get all respectful and professional and shit. I'm used to office work, so I act that way.

My friend thought I'd be great and I auditioned at her club. She thought I did a great job and was shocked when the manager told me he thought I needed experience. It was a couple of months ago and she said maybe I could go back and try auditioning for a different manager. But they have my app. on file still.

I guess I'm just venting here, but I really need advice too. I guess I'll try a couple of other clubs tomorrow on my day off. I'll get dolled up and go out club-shopping. If I had a digital camera I'd post a pic to prove I'm cute and buxom. Believe me, I am not a playboy model but I have the goods and I am funny, witty, friendly, and modest. haha. Any advice about approaching managers?

    thanks!

Emily is right, you probably did get brushed off, but what's the harm in calling them back? The worst they can say is no, right?

My rule of thumb is to never fill out an application at a club unless you are hired. Clubs don't call dancers even after they are hired.

Clubs don't always let you work the same day, but if you are hired will tell you to come in tomorrow many times.

Where is this club in AZ? Phoenix, Tucson? $4 an hour? Never heard of club pay there. Is it a nude club?

I would just apply in a cleavage showing blouse, hiphugging jeans, heels, full makeup with nails done and hair down and if you wear glasses, leave them off or wear contacts.

Both of those cities have ample clubs to apply at even though it is summer now and the business has slowed down, one of the better volume clubs should hire you.

I wouldn't get hung on one club. Just adjust your approach and look and go to some others. Every club isn't right for every dancer. Every manager isn't going to like every dancer.

The topless clubs are your best bet. Better and more clientele and no licensing requirement. Even if you don't get in the best topless club in town, you will get experience, and can move on from there.

    Good luck.

Call them back...that's the only way to know for sure. Otherwise try a different club.

Getting brushed off isnt something in this business that is rare to anyone. (especially if anyone has ever tried to get hired and Vegas....just had to throw that in there due to my own experiance) ...you could have been brushed off due to the manager being in a bad mood, or maybe in fact, you werent brushed off at all. It could have been easier for him to tell you to come back tomorrow rather than actually make you fill out a paper. Maybe he forgot.
OF course you should still call....as NikkiD said..the worste they could say is NO..then you just go elsewhere. There is to many clubs to get upset about not being hired at one...
Good luck and keep us posted...

Hey everyone. Thanks for the replies. I was out of town this weekend so I didn't read them til today.

You're all totally right- I have nothing to lose but my ego, so I should just toughen up and risk the rejection. The worst that can happen is a "no." I'll never know if I do not hit every club and even every manager, right?

I will not be wearing jeans any time soon since it's almost 100 here already. I live in Tucson. Not Phoenix, but hot nonetheless. It *is* a very slow time of year here but all of the clubs are always hiring and there must be a very high turnover rate in this business. I think I made several mistakes in my approach, and can learn from the experience and your advice.

In response to the questions: I am going for topless, not nude. I just don't want to show people my vulva every day. Plus, I'm not that neat a shaver... I usually wear contacts when I want to look cuter unless it's Halloween like in my avatar. The club I was talking about is Curves- anyone know it? I think I'll just try every club I can, and see what happens.

Thanks for the supportive and helpful posts. I mostly needed someone to say "get back on the horse!" and I will do it this week. Or probably this weekend since I still have my dayjob -most of the clubs claim they prefer to audition people during the daytime.

Thanks again and I'll let you know what happens...

Clarification: the $4/hour thing was their "licensing" fee, meaning their house fee, really. They charge you like $24 a shift and you tip out 10% to the DJ. Same as every club here that I have called. Friend of mine makes from $270 to $900 (her best night so far) per 6 hour shift. Not Vegas money, but better than working at Barnes & Noble for $7/hour. She also claims she is not so popular for VIP room because there are other girls who give extras and she doesn't have the reputation they do, so she's not in high demand.

Lap dances are $5 to $7 here- Cheap, I know. VIP varies from club to club. Some are $25 to get in and $15 for the dance, others are just $25 for the whole experience. People at some clubs I've been to vary widely in their generosity when it comes to tipping at the main stage. But all your real money comes from LDs.
