Default Should your club advertize in the paper?

In a busy club there is never a soap opera but when your club is not so busy-the soap opera begins and the managers are always being told that they should advertize-what do the girls think of this subject.

This is tough because there are very limited number of publications that will accept advertizing from strip clubs. Most of the mainstream papers and media won't allow any S.O.B. to advertize at all. The only place left is the independent papers, and industry advertizing.

How the clubs advertize here is that they pay the radio stations to put the dancers on air in a Howard Stern type of show in the mornings. Unfortunately, most of the targeted customers aren't listening to hip hop or alternative rock radio stations. I think the classic rock or country or talk/news stations would be a better place to advertize for the targeted clientele. But, alas, those stations won't accept the advertising from strip clubs.

Just about anybody knows the strip clubs are there, but it isn't in the front of their minds due to the lack of advertizing. I work in one club in Montana that books variety acts on a twice monthly basis. The mainstream media has no problem advertising stand up comedians, or live bands etc. So that is how they get their advertising out into the mainstream. I know of another club in Oregon that tried the same thing, and they have Vince Neil coming out this summer to perform, instead of the regular feature dancer booking that they would do for that month.

However the clubs would have to be willing to book and pay the variety act as well as pay for the advertising that goes along with it. That is a much bigger investment than just a regular radio spot, or display ad in the news paper.

Promote yourself and earn more money! This is a business that is owned by strippers for strippers. Let's make that money!

Depending on where the club is located, advertising can in fact be very bad for a club. This is because the advertisement is a direct reminder to all city residents who read the newspaper or listen to the radio that there is in fact a strip club in their midst. While a handful of residents might see/hear the ad and respond by becoming new customers at the club, it's much more likely that other residents will see the ad and act differently.

For example, a local church group or neighborhood group may be prompted to start calling the mayor or the police dep't to 'do something" about this strip club which has had the 'nerve' to advertise the 'sin and evil' which the club spreads within the community ! Blatant advertising has been the root cause of more than one anti-dance club crusade getting started, as well as the passage of anti-dance club ordinances which followed. This is particularly risky in an election year, because some conservative local politician may tie his election campaign to "doing something" about strip clubs in order to garner the votes of bible thumpers and neighborhood groups. If your club already must follow local laws which ban lap dances and establish a 6" distance rule between dancers and customers, then there is nothing to be lost by advertising. However, if your club is now able to offer contact lap dances, you run the risk of having the club's business model permanently changed for the worse if advertising prompts a conservative backlash.

On the other hand, if your club is located in a huge city with a fairly liberal view of strip clubs (and I see from your profile that you're from Toronto, which would seem to fit this bill), then advertising can indeed help business - PROVIDING that your club has something to advertise which is "out of the ordinary". In NYC this typically means a club adversing a Feature, advertising girl-on-girl stage shows etc. or something similar which would give guys seeing the ad a reason to consider going to your club versus a dozen different clubs.

However, certain cities have simply been hit hard by the bad economy. This is particularly the case with Toronto, because not only did last year's SARS scare prompt many businessmen and tourists to erase Toronto from their travel plans, but the rising Canadian dollar has increased the US dollar cost of everything in Toronto by 25% providing a second reason for US businessmen and tourists to avoid going there.

Additionally, Canada made no bones about failure to support US mideast policies (and went even farther - i.e. PM Jean Chretien meeting Bill Clinton in the USA and together criticizing George Bush). This position already trickled down to affect US/Canada trade policies and US$/CDN$ exchange rate policies, which in turn has hurt Canadian businesses (and people who work for those Canadian businesses) much more than US ones. You may need to face the fact that there simply isn't much more club business to be had in Toronto, such that advertising would be a waste of money !

In many cities clubs advertise in the sports page. There is a block of spcae allocated to adult business display ads.

Advertising in that designated area won't cause any flack if your paper has a space like that.

Some classic rock stations will allow strip club ads. It just depends on the station.

    Greetings,
We advertise in the sports page also.We even add a coupon on occasion just so we can see what type of response we are getting.
We also have a TV comercial that we run on the local cable stations. And we are running commercials and station nights with clear channel radio across the country.
If its done tastefully, advertisers and general public dont seem to have that much of a problem with it.
Try the clear channel radio station near you,if you add a keyword to your spot, you can keep track of how effective its going for you.IE have everyone say snuffleufficuss at the door for half off kind of thing.

Full force marketing in any region is the way to go,print , radio, and TV are just the best ways I know of other then showing up with 5-10 girls at races or local clubs or local events.

We are a legitimate business,if someone doesnt want to run your spots, sue them for unlawful discrimination, pay for the spots on their compititions station or paper, pay for it with what you won from sueing the first guy.

granted I live in a college town for 9 months out of the year. Our school paper doesn't have a problem advertising sc's. In fact they make it in there about 3 times every day. One real ad, and twice in the classifieds. I also see ads in other papers aroudn there.

Also back here in the Detroit area I hear commercials all the time for some of the clubs. When girls go out and do appearances at concerts, radio, etc I see more promotion for themselves than for the club.

My club advertises EVERYWHERE. Papers, AM sports radio, and we also have 2 huge billboards right on the main freeway, across from the pro-sports complex.

They also send girls out to the sporting events to hand out free passes before and after every football, basketball and hockey game.

The FlashDancers chain here in New York has taken out ads on the roofs of taxi cabs. Very original and very unusual.

I wonder if the ads will come down when the Republicans come in August? Hmmmmmmmm

I hope not! Earnings should be pretty good for NY dancers during the Republican Convention, I imagine. Not all republicans are bible-totin haters!! Some repubs are middle of the road and going to support their party. They will need a way to unwind from all that hot air that will be thrown at them....

I'd guess that the earnings potential surrounding the NYC republican convention will revolve around how much the extra security makes a mess of midtown traffic, and whether or not another threatened Al Queda terrorist attack takes place.
