    Default insomnia(my story)

    Hi everyone-
I know this is a repeat post, but I wanted to get a more up to date picture of how many of you are still having difficulty sleeping.
On a pretty regular basis, I sleep like crap. My work schedule is inconsistent--one night I might get to bed at midnight the next not until 3-4am. Sometimes due to stress and anxiety I might sleep 2-4 hours then wake up for another 2-4 hours and go back to sleep again. And naps, I have to nap during the day at odd hours just to be able to sleep the few nights I work. This isnt good.
Ive tried prescription sleep aids, reading, calling up friends-talking about what might be bothering me to get things off my mind etc.. All of this helps to some degree only sometimes.
Problem being Im an extremely sensitive person, and many things that perhaps shouldnt get to me do. Theres no magic solution, except to try to eliminate stress and worry but thats not very realistic right now.
I was just wondering how many of you might be going through the same thing. It makes it hard to have a life during the daytime(ie go to school--virtually impossible at this point)or get anything productive done. Is anyone else out there going through the same thing as me?

    sander8son-

Yeah if I cant sleep Im usually on SW. Usually if Im rolling around and Im still pretty awake it gets so irritating that I get up out of bed and have to do something. Yeah its hard to have a life when on a constant basis you dont know if youre going to be rested enough to feel up to doing things.
I could go see a doctor. but those prescription sleeping aids can make me feel groggy and dont knock me out for long enough anymore. I think I have a tolerance built up for them so I take calms forte a homeopathic pill thats alot more gentle and doesnt create much grogginess.. who wants to be drugged up on sleeping pills all the time anyways uh..what to do..what to do...

youre right I should go and see a doctor. Ive been trying to put that off for as long as possible. I dont have a regular doctor but Ive already asked a few girls at work and one girl has given me the name of her doctor...I should make myself go see him.

I find masturbating with my vibrator puts me right to sleep. Get some exciting sex toys and knock yourself out!!!

    Hi Shift,
I would say that out of a 7 week night, I need a prescription sleeping aid 5 times. I know that they can become addictive, but w/out them I would not be able to function normally. My doctor attributes my problem to anxiety and stress. I think that if you eliminate your naps, (it may be difficult initially) that you may have an easier time getting to sleep because you will be more tired.

I really hope you find a doctor that has a clue and works with you to treat the problem (and not just throws sleeping pills at you to treat a symptom). Of course it could just be lack of sleep, but you mentioned that little things get to you (that you know shouldn't), insomnia, and a lot of regular anxiety. These are some of the symptoms of anxiety disorder/depression (yes depression can manifest itself as persistent anxiety) - which is very common and very easily/safely treated. Of course it could just be stress in your life. Anyway again I hope you see a doctor and wish you the best of luck.

I agree with you completely Ive avoided seeing a doctor because I dont want to be on sleeping pills 24/7 I wanted to somehow overcome it myself Thats not working I have many issues but I dont want to deal with a shrink Ive been there before and I dont want to go back( years ago) I dont want to be on any pills whether its antidepressants or sleeping aids Ive taken various tranqulizers antidepressants etc.. in mypast I dont want to be dependent upon a pill thats just me though--
My anxiety attacks have lessened from the way they used to be and IM trying more and more to take care of the problem myself I have chosen much isolation to deal with some of this stuff for many people misunderstand me so Ive found it best to keep to myself It takes a while to get to know me and to realize where I come from
In an odd way I feel as though Im going through a 1/4 life crisis. (ha) I am determined to take care of myself and get through this somehow.

One of the keys to a good night's sleep is to keep a regular schedule as much as possible. I know this may be difficult for dancers, but it something to consider.

You really have to train yourself to go to sleep at a specific time, every night or day, if possible. As Cali stated, cutting out naps is also part of the program. I know this is hard to do; it’s something I struggle with. Exercise is also important, as is reducing caffeine intake.

As for stress and anxiety, there are a number of breathing and mental exercises you can do in bed to help relieve the stress.

A good night’s rest is important. Depression and other illness have been linked to poor sleeping habits.

For a natural sleep aid, try melatonin. I’ve used it with success.

Good luck, I know how much it sucks not being able to get a good night's sleep.

i have a similar problem...i can stay awake all night...and sleep all day...but i have a day job...so i have to try to make myself go to bed at night during the week...and i must be the only person in this apartment complex that has a day job (or a job for that matter)...'cause the fucking natives get restless at around 8 to 10pm...and keep going 'til about 1am during the week...

can't take sleeping pills 'cause i don't have the privilage of getting eight hours of sleep a night 'til the weekend rolls around...i'm lucky if i get five...worries about a fucked up financial situation and stresses about the job (both are the main sources...if not the only sources...of the severe depression i suffer from) don't help much...so you're not alone...
Why do some people still have to fight...to get the same opportunities...that are given to others??...

Look out for self...because noone else will...AND
The greatest revenge in the world...is success...

    Reclusivness...is a good thing.

yes, I have this problem often as well. It is a combonation of stress, anxiety and/or partying. I will rarely get to bed before 2, even if I'm not working.

    Good news everyone!!

I went to bed last night bet 1230am-1am and I stayed in bed until 1030am!!! yey!!!
Thanks so much cali and everyone else for your help and support. Ive definitely needed it!!

Unfortunately, if Im going to make enough money to pay my bills I cant keep a regular schedule, I have to work until 2am, at least once or twice a week to make enough money. Day shifts around here are pretty crappy. So the nights I dont work i get to bed early by midnight or so but other nights I dont get to bed until later. Working nights is a bitch, and then I get woken up by neighbors and noise outside inthe morning when im trying to sleep quite often Ive tried ear plugs, theyre so uncomfortable but i try to use them sometimes

I've been an insomnia sufferer for years... I have a definate pattern though.. I find that the more I work and the more stress I am under, the less I sleep. Currently, I am on a three week vacation, and I am sleeping around four hours a night.. and I just finished a week of vacation and am ready to go stir crazy... but you are not alone..

I did try medication, but the draw backs were worse than the condition itself, so I stopped. I don' t like being dependent on any type of drug. I have a hard time turning my mind off, which is why I also have trouble sleeping.

Thats exactly what it is with me I have trouble turning my mind off Things affect me way too easily and can disrupt everything especially my sleep Yeah Im hesistant to get a prescription for pills like Ambien and Im concerned that the drawbacks might be worse then the condition itself too. Thats why I havent seen a doctor about it
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. I see Im not alone.
