    Default Purple Hats!

I get this in my email at least once a year. It's very nice, and I thought I'd share it...

In honor of women's history month and in memory of Erma Bombeck who lost her fight with cancer.

IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER
    ~by Erma Bombeck~

(written after she found out she was dying from cancer).

I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day.

I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.

I would have talked less and listened more.

I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained, or the sofa faded.

I would have eaten the popcorn in the 'good' living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.

I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.

I would have shared more of the responsibility carried by my husband.

I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.

I would have sat on the lawn with my grass stains.

I would have cried and laughed less while watching television and more while watching life.

I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn't show soil, or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.

When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, "Later. Now go get washed up for dinner." There would have been more "I love you's." More "I'm sorry's."

But mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute...look at it and really see it . live it .and never give it back. Stop sweating the small stuff.

Don't worry about who doesn't like you, who has more, or who's doing what.

Instead, let's cherish the relationships we have with those who do love us.

Let's think about what God HAS blessed us with. And what we are doing each day to promote ourselves mentally, physically, emotionally. I hope you all have a blessed day.

    Beautiful Women's Month

Age 3: She looks at herself and sees a Queen.

Age 8: She looks at herself and sees Cinderella.

Age 15: She looks at herself and sees an Ugly Sister (Mum I can't go to school looking like this!)

Age 20: She looks at herself and sees "too fat/too thin, too short/too tall, too straight/too curly"- but decides she's going out anyway.

Age 30: She looks at herself and sees "too fat/too thin, too short/too tall, too straight/too curly" - but decides she doesn't have time to fix it, so she's going out anyway.

Age 40: She looks at herself and sees "clean" and goes out anyway.

Age 50: She looks at herself and sees "I am" and goes wherever she wants to go.

Age 60: She looks at herself and reminds herself of all the people who can't even see themselves in the mirror anymore. Goes out and conquers the world.

Age 70: She looks at herself &sees wisdom, laughter and ability, goes out and enjoys life.

Age 80: Doesn't bother to look. Just puts on a purple hat and goes out to have fun with the world.

Send this on to all the women you are grateful to have as friends. Maybe we should all grab that purple hat earlier. Please send this to five phenomenal women today in celebration of Beautiful Women's Month. If you do, something good will happen: you will boost another woman's self esteem.

That was cool, thanks for posting it. It reminded me of something I once wrote (reading it now, it starts off a little hokey, but I think the message is as true as ever).

Posted by Gary on November 03, 1999 at 05:39:15:

See, she found out that I took my dad on a 200 mile drive upstate this past weekend, despite her and I getting no sleep the night before, just to see some of Autumn's foliage at this one particular lake.

She also knows that, regardless of how chaotic my life may be, I always try to make time for him. For her. For friends. For family. And even for me.

That's what wanted prompted the question, "how do you do it? How come you almost never get stressed out? What's the secret?"

The only answer I could come up with is that it's all in the little things, and as I lay here waiting to see the sunrise in another 20 minutes or so, I figure I'll bore y'all with a few of them ;-)

The secret, in a nutshell, is to Live your Life. I mean it, LIVE YOUR LIFE!!! Every f*cking day of it. Be good to people. Be good to yourself. Don't just stop to smell the roses, but plant a few along the way. Make gifts of them, and not just to friends, but even complete
strangers. Set the alarm clock, and watch the beauty that is a sun rise. Every so often spoil yourself. Buy something that makes absolutely no friggin sense. Take a walk in the pouring rain. Skip through the puddles. Get drenched. Roll around in fresh cut grass. Make snow angels. Grow old, but never completely grow up. Give love freely, and thank God when it's been given to you. Make sure your Significant Others know just how significant they are. Tell them every day. Show them every night. Help out people in need. Have morals and standards, but temper them with compassion and understanding. Say what's in your heart. Treat each day for the precious gift it so truly is. Break out the bubbles and have a bath. Sleep on satin sheets. Always have a candle burning. Make a child happy, be it yours or anothers. Help out neighbors in need. Indulge in your favorite foods. Enjoy the unconditional love given by a pet. Be kind. Keep yourself fit. Play hookey from work. Drive with the windows open. Get away on the weekends. Now and then, make love ALL night. Spend some time in nature's wonder. Give thanks for the little things. Cuddle. Hug. Smile, and often. Laugh, a lot. Admit when you're wrong. Stand up for what's right. Work hard enough to be successful, but not so hard that you can't enjoy that success. Wake up early just to go back to bed. Forgive and forget. Be a singer of songs. Vent, when necessary. Listen, when needed. Remember that life is short, live it accordingly. Try new things. Treasure old friends.

Anyway, long, corny ramblings aside, the sun is indeed about to rise, and I hear the Hawaiian Mocha beginning to whistle, so let me end by telling you all something I don't say nearly enough: This joint, and all of you, have a very special place within my heart. Here's hoping you all have a wonderful Wednesday!!!

EDIT: Just a huge thank you to G-d for the gift of good health, and for giving that gift to those I love. I don't think we stop to do this nearly enough either.

So you buried all your lover's clothes and burned the letters lover wrote, but it doesn't make it any better. Does it make it any better?
