    Default Tongue Piercing

I had my tongue pierced on Monday, and it still hurts today. Is that normal? The swelling hasn't gone down at all, even though I've been icing it. I haven't eaten solid food since I had it done.

It does not appear to be infected, it looks perfectly fine and I've been using watered-down listerine and Gly-Oxide.

When will the pain stop? Please share your stories. I need support and really don't want to give up and take it out. I've put up with it for this long.

BTW, if you are one who doesn't like piercings, don't bother to reply to this post. I don't need the negativity.

    Thanks guys!

So it's only been a few days?I'm a former piercer, and I will tell you that by the mid to end of next week, the swelling will go away.Every night when you are in the shower, stick your tongue out and let the water run over it for ten minutes. This flushes the piercing and helps with the swelling.PM me if you have any further questions.I have my tongue pierced four times( four diferent piercings).

The swelling on my tongue piercing did not go down until 7 or 8 days after I had it done. Put up with the pain and swelling, it is totally worth it. Take advil or motrin for the swelling also it helps and don't be afraid to take a couple at a time.
    Hope this helps!

Make sure that after the swelling goes down and you are healed, replace the post with a shorter one, bc the one used for initial peircing is long, to accomodate the initial swelling. If you don't replace it with a shorter one after the swelling goes down, you risk chomping down on the ball and chipping or breaking your teeth. (I learned about this the hard way. My peircer failed to mention it till half my molar was gone.) Ouch! And I had to get a crown on that tooth, to the tune of $1,000.

At night you can prop your head up with 2 pillows... slightly above your heart level. That'll help with swelling. Brush or at least rinse after every eating... you should be able to go to a local shop & buy Tech 2000. It's a mouth rinse specifically made for oral piercings. And do remember to switch the barbell down.... & if you're uncomfortable with doing it, you can usually go to a local shop & pay really no more than $5 for them to do it.

I have no experience directly with tongue piercings but I do have oral piercings (monroe and labret). Biotene is a really good alchol free mouth wash that I would recomend.... it really helps. If you want other stories about percings go to and they have stories and pictures of all types of piercings. Good luck, I am sure it will be fine. L.B
