Default question about Vegas business license

I have been travelling to Vegas once or twice a month for about six months to work at one of the larger, nicer clubs. When I got hired, I told the manager I was from out of state and had never worked in Vegas. He told me that I had to get the sheriff's card, but he definitely never said anything about the business license.

So, I did all the paperwork and I have worked there over a dozen times with no problems. However, just the other day I learned that management (supposedly) requires girls to have the business license as well to work at the club.

I'm moving and don't plan to continue working in Vegas, but will be passing through this weekend and would like to dance a few nights. Does anyone know what, if anything, might happen if I work there one more weekend w/o a license? I am not keen on spending the $100 if I don't have to, and it seems like maybe it doesn't matter if I've been working there all along with no problems.

If I do have to get the license, can anyone tell me what I need to take to the office, how long it takes, and any potential complications?

    Thanks everyone.

Yes you do need the business license....do they check ??? NO they dont. BUT if vice is in the club and you happen to get in trouble then your screwed.
More than likely you will be fine.
As for getting the license I got mine through the club I work for....they give you a receipt...later you get the license in the mail...although it has been over a month and I have yet to recieve mine.
    Good luck

Effective July 1st, they will be mandatory and some clubs are checking the dancers for them just like they would Sherrifs cards as I'm sure they are receiving some pressure to do so. They aren't mandatory until July 1st though, so if you are planning on dancing in Vegas any time before then, you should be fine. Past that though, you will absolutely have to have one. Without it, you could get charged of conducting business without a license and who knows how steep of a penalty that would carry. It may mean the revocation of your sherrifs card though and that would mean no more dancing in Vegas. My suspicion is that they are going to set an example out of a bunch of dancers come July 2nd and the weeks thereafter just to let everyone know that Big Brother is watching.

Thanks Tori and DancerWealth for the information - it is much appreciated!

Daphne - I believe the state license is $100. I have heard that some clubs will also be requiring a city license which will cost additional money.

Does anyone know whether it is standard to apply for the license from the club you dance at (as Tori did)?

Does anyone know specifically whether the management at OG, Cheetahs, and Sapphire checks for licenses?

I posted the details in another thread, so I'll cut and paste it into here. The club will give you the materials you need to get everything and as for the clubs you mentioned checking for licenses? I don't know if they are at the moment, but soon they will probably all start checking, especially after July 1st. which is the mandatory effective date of having them

Depending on which club you are at, you will at the very least need a State business license and possibly a city of Las Vegas license depending on where you are dancing. Plan on spending an afternoon to get both of them. Before you go, you will have to bring with you your Sheriffs Card and a State Taxation Letter. The State Taxation Letter will be provided for you by your club. Most of the clubs are very knowledgable about this now but if your club management is clueless about this, call the Nevada State Taxation Department for further details (number below). When you ask your club for it though, just tell them you need it to get your business license and they should be able to get this for you easily, especially if they?ve already done it for other dancers which by now they have already been doing. Once you have the State Taxation Letter and your Sheriffs Card, go to the address below to get your Nevada Business License:

    Nevada State Taxation Department
    555 E. Washington Ave.
    702-486-2300

The fee for the state license will be $100 per year.

If you need to have a city license also, you will need to make another stop. Once you have the Sheriffs card and State Business License, you will them along with your State Taxation Letter and go to the City of Las Vegas at the address below:

    Las Vegas Business Licensing
    400 E. Stewart Ave., 3rd Floor
    702-229-6281

The fee is $55 (for setup and initial fee), then $25 every 6 months if earnings are over $12,500 for the previous 6 months. They will explain to you the details of the renewal when you go down there, so be sure to ask about it. Again though, you will need to ask your club if this is necessary as there are only a few clubs to which this applies.
