    Default Off to the beach...

I lived over in Europe for 4 years and over there women go to the beaches in thong bikinis. Every time I go to the beach here in the US I never see any women with thong bathing suits. Do you go to a beach with a full bottom or thong? I dont know whether its acceptable to go in a thong.

North Carolina, where I live now, is very conservative. When I go to Wrightsville Beach, which is very near a college, I almost never see anyone else in a thong. But, I love my thong bikinis, so that's what I wear. No one has ever said much about it to me, but the lifeguards seem to check me out more than the other girls. It's definitely gratifying to know that all those college cuties are there, and I'm still getting the looks.

When I was younger and used to surf, I would wear a thong sometimes. Its illegal though where i live, so I used to put a white mesh pair of booty shorts over top. One time I got a warning from a cop(he was really nice about it though hmm .. I wonder why? ha j/k), and that was one of the last times I went to that particular beach. The further south, NC etc.. you can find more desolate beaches and can wear thongs but its illegal where I live.

Pisces, I was told it is illegal in NJ, unless you go to the nude beach. I've seen the police confront a woman who had one on. She had to put her shorts on. I would check on this before you go ahead and do it.

In Va it's illegal but I hear that Va Beach is trying to get the law changed. I just went to a water park with some girls from work and I had to buy a full coverage bikini. I only go to the beach when I vacation in FL and I wear thong there. I felt like I was wearing grnny panties all day!

No offence to my american cousins.
But I thought you lived in the home of the free????
Thongs are illegal??? Genital piercings are illegal? Busted for a tiny amount of pot and thrown in jail. Depending where you live if its your 3rd offence you are looking at life in prison?? Something is wrong.

VA Beach trying to get the law changed, thats crazy. Everybody is so conservative around here; thats hard to believe. Thats where I used to go but now, I head south to the NC Beaches past Nags Head. I like Rodanthe(msp) its desolate out there, and Hatteras, of course too. The beaches are alot cleaner from Pea Island on out.

Thanx Jenna2479! Might save me some trouble LOL!

Susan-Va... is it legal all over FL? I am going down to South Florida in a few weeks and it would be a pain to have to buy a full bottom.

Why the heck is it illegal?? Thats the dumbest thing ever! Just flip on MTV and count how many thongs you see haha.

Raven I agree with you. I am proud to be an American 100% but some things are just absolutely ridiculous. I felt more freedom in Europe when it came to these kind of issues. It depends on where you live in EU though but would you ever seen anything but a thong on the french rivera? Maybe thats over exagerating it but some laws here are ridiculous. But lets not talk politics, laws, etc here - lets save that for a different board haha.

Anyways, ladies what laws apply to your state concerning beaches and wearing a thong?? Id find it interesting if CA had this law about thongs. I would think that out west theyd be more laid back - less conservative. Am I wrong?

Ironically, in San Francisco and other beaches in the Northern Cali area, you can wear any kind of suit you want. However, it is so freakin' cold most of the time, you would hardly ever want to

I mean you would be more comfortable in sweats

There is a beach in SF, Ca called Baker's Beach. It is half clothing optional. The funny thing is, the people that you would least want to see naked; are the ones who willingly go there and let you know it :o

There were some funny, memorable characters that were sort of regulars there. Like this guy that was referred to as "the bouncer". He was kind of a pale, average looking, somewhat middle-aged guy. He would walk with a sort of a skipping lilt. Just enough that his weiner would bounce.....I think you get the picture. He would just skip through all the people lying down, playing volley ball and frisbee and just....bounce away

    It was pretty funny

    Cheers,

I think that it's ok insouth Fl. I go to the keys every year and I've never had a problem.

Virginia is very consevative. A few years ago a club opened in a neighboring county (all strip clubs are in the city limits here). In an attempt to get it shut down the county updated the public nudity law making it illegal to wear a thong, even in your own backyard yard! No of course the only place that this was enforeced was at the strip club.

Guy's input here : Thongs are tolerated in Puerto Rico but depending on where you wear it. Ladies have no problem, especially since with the raggethon (Puerto Rican rap) craze girls shakin' their booties in thongs is pretty common. But with guys it's a different story. Here in San Juan in a couple of beaches (predominantly gay by the way) it's very natural to wear a thong. Otherwise you better go in regular swimsuits (not even a regular bikini) unless it's a desolate, far away beach.

I wouldn't say I wear a full bottam, but I have never worn a thong bikini bottam at the beach. I think maybe it is because I do not look to recieve male attention outside work so I try not to be the extreme, but I have seen a few other girls at beaches in FL wearing thong bikinis. I think you should wear whatever makes you feel the most comfortable!!!

I am on the east coast of Florida, about 2 hours from Miami, thongs all along the east coast at the beaches i have been to are fine. Not illegal. South Fl. too, Thongs are still fine. However they are stopping this in more populated areas around the east coast, which is stupid, because drive down another 2 miles and you can wear thongs on the public beach. Same in Lauderdale at certain areas of beaches.

Hell, we have the Sea Food Fest, and i have seen ladies wear thongs there! No one thows them out. It looks stupid off the beach. (sorry rushed.)

I was talking to a friend a few moments ago, and in my general area you can't wear thongs anymore. Sorry for the wrong information. South Florida is still a go. Here, the alternative is our nude beaches.

the funny thing about thongs being illegal (im in VA btw)
so i went into Wet Seal
a clothing store primarily for young teen girls
was going to buy some panties

ALL the panties looked like stripper thongs.. with little feathers in the front or beads.. all thongs
and most of the girls in the store looked about 13

So.. if stores can market thongs to young teens
and then in the same state .. say grown women cant wear thong bathing suits..

thats just a bit bizarre to me

I was unaware thongs were a no-no in some states. That's absurd!!! :o

I lived in the old army barracks above Baker Beach my freshman and sophomore years of college and relished the nudity though I usually found the weather too cold to partake, myself. My roommates got a kick out of the gay, male volleyball tournaments that occasionally came our way. Heh.

Many a beautiful thing happened in those days. *sigh*

it is NOT illegal for a woman to be topless or wear a thong on ANY beach in the US. They have the same exact laws for guys and girls. Anywhere a guy can go topless a girl can too, anywhere a guy can wear a thong, a girl can do the same. Now, it may not be socially acceptable everywhere, but it's called equal rights and it does stand up in any court of law.

this is the california nudity law:
CALIFORNIA CODES SECTION 314-318.6 (as of 6/2000): Every person who willfully and lewdly, either: 1. Exposes his person, or the private parts thereof, in any public place, or in any place where there are present other persons to be offended or annoyed thereby; or, 2. Procures, counsels, or assists any person so to expose himself or take part in any model artist exhibition, or to make any other exhibition of himself to public view, or the view of any number of persons, such as is offensive to decency, or is adapted to excite to or thoughts or acts, is guilty of a misdemeanor.

Every person who violates subdivision 1 of this section after having entered, without consent, an inhabited dwelling house, or trailer coach as defined in Section 635 of the Vehicle , or the inhabited portion of any other building, is punishable by imprisonment in the state prison, or in the county jail not exceeding one year.

Upon the second and each subsequent conviction under subdivision 1 of this section, or upon a first conviction under subdivision 1 of this section after a previous conviction under Section 288, every person so convicted is guilty of a felony, and is punishable by imprisonment in state prison.

There are laws pertaining to certain counties and cities. Such as this law for LA county:
Los Angeles County - Ordinance 17.12.360, "Nudity and Disrobing":
    A) No person shall appear, bathe, sunbathe, walk, change clothes, disrobe or |be on any beach in such manner that the genitals, vulva, pubis, pubic symphysis, pubic hair, buttocks, natal cleft, perineum, anus, anal region or pubic hair region of any person, or any portion of the breast at or below the upper edge of the areola thereof of any female person, is exposed to public view, except in those portions of a comfort station, if| any, expressly set aside for such purpose. B) This section shall not apply to persons under the age of 10 years, provided such children are sufficiently clothed to conform to accepted community standards. C) This section shall not apply to persons engaged in a live theatrical performance in a theater, concert hall, or similar establishment which is primarily devoted to theatrical performances.

So mainly in the according to state code- any public nudity is a misdemeanor. Numerous misdemeanors under this code leads to a felony and imprisionment.
But for some reason within LA county nudity is permited in theatrical performances. But if you want to be nude just say in the park and you're over the age of 10 well that's a misdemeanor.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

Sapphire you're in SD right here's the county and city law for SD.

    San Diego City Nudity Law
San Diego, California, Municipal Code 56.53: Nudity on Public Lands: c. NUDITY PROHIBITED. No person over the age of ten years shall be nude and exposed to public view in or on any public right of way, public park, public beach or waters adjacent thereto, or other public land, or in or on any private property open to public view from any public right of way, public beach, public park, or other public land.
This law applies to the section of Blacks Beach that is in the city, but not the portion in the state park.

    San Diego County Nudity Law
SEC. 32.1004. PUBLIC NUDITY PROHIBITED: It is hereby declared a public nuisance and unlawful for any person to appear, sunbathe, bathe, walk, disrobe, or otherwise be nude in any public place except in an area expressly set aside for such purpose or in those portions of a comfort location, if expressly set aside for such purpose. Any person who shall violate any of the provisions of this chapter shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by fine of not more than $500 or by imprisonment in the County Jail for a period of not more than six months, or by both fine and imprisonment.

now that's interesting ryan, you know what thought crossed my mind yesterday as I was at the beach? If it isn't illegal to wear a thong on the beach, why is it illegal to be within 6 feet of a patron while wearing a thong in my club??? Hmmm...if I had enough time on my hands, it would be lawsuit time...
In Va Beach thongs are not allowed on the beach or in the clubs, all clubs are bikini bars.

In PR the indecent exposure statute is based on California's with the added "bonus" that a police officer may be offended solely based on his duties as a law enforcement official. So, even in a crowded beach you could get away being nude but it's still not advisable because "gawkers" are everywhere.
