Default do i need a pole to practice?

I am thinking about dancing and am considering buying a pole. I was wondering if it would be well worth $300 or a waste of my money. Could i just audition at a club and use their pole to practice? I got hired at a club here in az but i don't like it because its all nude. I think ide feel more comfortable at a topless place. have any of you bought a pole and practiced before you auditioned or did you just audition?

i just auditioned without any sort of practice at all.
you really just need to start working at a club and learn on the job. NO ONE expects a brand new dancer to do pole tricks or even dance well at all. everyone always laughs later at how clueless they were when they first started.

...or just go to the park and practice on the monkey bars.

anyway - the important thing about auditioning for the first time isnt dancing the best its about having fun. just remember to smile and enjoy yourself and you will do great. the strippers that make the most money are the ones that have the most fun.

I'm just afraid that i'll look like a total idiot if i go on stage to dance. I auditioned at christies here in phoenix and i looked like a total idiot, the other girls in the amateur contest laughed at me and i wasn't hired. I bought this book called the s-factor that's supposed to teach you moves, i hope it helps. I think i need someone who knows what they are doing to teach me, but the girls at le girls hate me and that's why i haven't been back. I'm thinking about auditioning at babes, but i'm afraid the same thing will happen that happened at christie's. I'm also afraid that students at asu that know me will see me there since its so close to asu.

Well, dancing comes with practice. The best thing you can do is go to the clubs and just watch the dancers...watch how they move and all. Then, go home, and practice, practice, practice. Pole work is much harder than it looks...and, it's not the "money maker" for a newbie. You are better off learning the basics of dancing and then incorporating well-practiced pole tricks. Good luck!

Dancing is mainly a sales job anyways. No one makes money on stage. The money is made selling lap dances. Try to go to a club that doesn't put such a heavy emphasis on stage auditions. Just tell the manager that you are more of a sales person than a stage person. They might let you work without having to do some stupid "amateur contest".
If you want to get a job as a dancer, the most important thing is to look like a dancer and know how to act like one. Check out the body business section and hustle hut for some good ideas to get started. Maybe get a book on makeup at barnes and noble and go to a department store and get a makeover. I got a makeover at the lancome department and it really helped me learn more about fixing myself up.
    Good luck.

You can learn by watching and studying movements. Pay attention and don't be afraid of the pole and you will catch on fast. A pole at home would help though.

Once you get a job, take note of how the other girls dance and pick up hints that way. The more practice you get the more comfortable you will be.

Alot of newbies try to dance superfast like they're at a regular dance club and trying to win the "shake it fast" award. Everytime I haven't felt like putting forth any effort and just walk around sexy, I've made more money on stage. I think you should try it slow until you get the hang of it, imo. Noone usually laughs at how slow you are onstage, but probably will if you come off as spastic. ...Just a suggestion

You could also make your own pole for cheap, like it shows in this thread...

I do not know how to pole dance, because the club I started in didnt have one. When I went to my second club, it had a pole, but the kind that swings. That was a little easier and I could do a few things. However, I give major "props" to girls who can dance on a pole that doesnt move. I have no idea how you girls do it. LOL

I think that buying a pole would be a good idea if you really want to learn. I was considering it too.
Let us know how it goes.

lexi do you mean the spinning pole??? Those are super fun to do tricks on, but beware you'll get dizzy.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

I work at a nice topless club in AZ.....I don't have a clue how to work a pole......I don't do much on stage right now other than do what the other girls do, and move the way I know my man likes me to move......it's all in your personality, anyway. My first night.....I was totally clueless...but I was having fun, smiling and talking to customers around my stage.....I made alot of money on stage....the girls that were busting their butts on the poles that night didn't make near as much......that tought me something very valuable the first night.....if you aren't having fun, and you don't feel sexy - it won't matter what you do...it will be harder to make money. If you are just having fun, interacting with the customers and can't do a pole trick to save your life....you will do just fine!

I bought a pole and put it up in my living room just because I hate not being good at everything I do! It helps alot.....it's hard to find a club where you can practice on off hours.....in your own living room you will try everything because you know no one is watching you when you mess up....and it's GREAT exercise!!! I don't practice tricks so much right now, as I am just getting comfortable with it there......

Im in the same boat as you thinking you have to do pole to dance. Ive been dancing 6 months now late 30's and love the stage we have two poles and i use neither. Most of the girls just dance around it. Most of the money is made out on the floor and i do really good. I auditioned at christies too and they said i bedroom dance so i didn't get hired. They told me to come back when i had more experience. I would never go back there !! They should see me now they probable wouldnt hire me cuz i animate having sex a lot . but it works for me.

    Youll do fine.
