Default Excerise: How do you know when you are perfect?

Ok the title is kind of misleading. As I know no one is perfect but since I started dancing I have worked out consistantly I have gone from 150 at 5'6 two years ago to a lean 137-140 now. I really feel my body looks good in shape but still feminine and curvy. In fact at the gym yesterday a woman came up to me (who happens to be a dancer herself which is funny because I totally got the stripper vibe from her before we even officialy met!!) and she asked me why she always sees me do cardio she was like " Are you trying to loose weight or something? You look perfect!" I was flattered but said I have to do major cardio to maintain my weight. I always felt like I am not skinny enough or not in shape enough. Then I started thinking how do you know when you transision from weight loss to weight maintance? It is more a mental thing. I think women never feel they are good enough or fit enough. How do let go of that feeling that I look good as it is and the only thing I have to do now is feel good about myself and just lead a healthy lifestyle but working out three times a week and eating healthy? Does anyone eles understand my situation? ???

when you get in front of the mirror...naked...like what you see...both front and back...and don't think...'not bad...but i can do better'...

me...i say 'not bad...but i can do better'...so i'm not perfect...in my eyes...

and what i think when i look in the mirror...are the only thoughts that matter...
Why do some people still have to fight...to get the same opportunities...that are given to others??...

Look out for self...because noone else will...AND

To me, the mirror is not realistic. I take pictures naked and that will tell me what I need to know. Pictures don't lie if you take them without trying to conceal any flaws, and you use a good camera.

I think for me it's when i actually started feeling good naked and in all types of clothing.

I always felt too skinny, and from a few pics. posted in certain forums was skinny to me. Now i see me as a woman. I have breasts, long legs, an ass, hips...just a womanly shape. I have a small belly that guys tell me is sooooo sexy, instead of the abs of steel thing guys got going on.

I love my womanly figure! Curves, bulges (small sexy belly) and feel at peace. I hope now i stay here.

I am 5'8" and 156lbs. It's all spread out evenly. I won't go higher, took me a long time to get here!

I think that it is when you're completely happy with all parts of your body (that you are able to control by working). Also, I think that exercise routines should continually vary and be changed in both pattern and intensity, because our bodies adapt to routine, and need to be jump-started every once in a while, regardless of whether or not you're happy where you are.

In the end, if you put on your clothes and feel like, "damn these look good on me now!" and dont feel the desire or need to change anything, then I think that is when you're perfect

Ok, I'm in the same boat with you Lilac. But hubby says that the difference between weight loss and weight management, is when you are on a program for 6 mo, and and after that note your weight, dimentions (ie, inches) and BFI. Then work out with the same routine for about another 3mo, and then check the stats again, if there is no change then you are at a maintenance workout not, a reducing work out. But if you do change in that time them you are still not there yet. I would check your "stats" every month and if you notice that they don't change then you are exactly where you need to be. NOTE: Write down measurement dates, times and all measurements in a little book so you can compare then and work out on the parts you're not happy with. That's how I lost almost 50lbs, and went from a size 12 to a size 3 jeans. My BFI was at a horrid 38%, now it's down to 19% and I weight more than I did in high school at the same jeans size. Go figure.

100 pounds for 5', for each additional inch 5 pounds, give or take thirteen percent of that would be the low and high end of what is considered healthy.

if you have a small frame you should look at the lower end of the spectrum, and vise versa.

Now that is your ideal.

However not everyone is ideal. Look at your genetics. Calories consumed verse calories expended.

You can also go to the gym and find out exactly what your metabolism reads.

Working out is always the healthy thing to do for your body unless its draining and obsessive.

I disagree with Lilac and Kitana slightly... just because your weight/measurements stay the same for 3 months doesnt mean you're perfect, it may simply mean that you've plateaued and need to change up your routine. Keep that in mind.

I disagree with Lilac and Kitana partially. Please keep in mind that if your weight/measurements haven't changed for a period of time you may have simply plateaued and that it does not necessarily mean that you are "perfect". Your body may have just adjusted to the program that was taking weight off of you before, and may need to be changed up.

I agree, except I'd say 'when you're mostly happy or content with all parts...'

Well your opinions have definatly helped. I guess I didn't specify the type of body I want. While I appreiate all the hardbodies I don't want that type of body. I want a soft feminie curvy body but toned in the right areas. This is they type of body I strive for.

I guess it is more a mental thing. I know when I dip lower than 137 I am really unhappy I feel I look way too skinny but when I work out I am always telling myself without really conisously thinking it that my thighs don't look good enough or my ticeps really need to be more toned. I wish there was a way I could mentaly be like ok you are doing these push ups becase my upper body isn't good enough but because my body is great and I am just enjoying a healthy lifestyle. I am sure body builders and people who work on their body go through the same thing. They are NEVER good enough or a body part is NEVER toned enough.

Muscle weighs more than fat....so you can be in better shape and even be skinnier but actually weigh more.

Dont get obsessed with WEIGHT...ITS JUST A NUMBER...this is why many women quit working out. They dont see their weight dropping, but what they dont realize is that they are actually building muscle at the same time they are losing fat...this actually will increase how much you weigh...but you will be in better shape.

Dont get hung up on the numbers...go by how you feel and what you look like.

I agree with Ti Amo...you have to vary your workouts....if you dont...its almost a waste of time...you arent working out effectively. You have to constantly change your routine so that it challenges you.

I didn't think the first girl was very skinny just toned and even without the boobs and taking into account the angle of the shot, that girl's ass and hips don't resemble skinny at all.

Oh ANI, I agree totally! When I said i was the same jeans size I was also (ok I will not be afraid to say my weight!)121lbs then too. Now I weigh in at about 127-130lbs. But not I can also bench 175, back then I couldn't. I want to tone up my belly a little more but it's really hard; I have had a C-Section. And when I was in the Marine Corps I was almost 140! But I had a 4 pact too. Ah, those were the days.....

AHHHHH!!! I hate this! Why are we so concerned with our bodies? Why can't we just be ok with who we are? Because...we are rewarded with money when we look perfect.
I used to look perfect or, what I thought looked perfect. I was 5'3' - 105. No fat anywhere - perfectly flat tummy, tanned Barbi. However, it was killing me to be there. I literally ran over 50 miles a week. While I ate anything I wanted (and drank), it was way too many miles for the calories I was consuming.
Now, I have been in recovery from alcohol and an eating disorder for almost a year and a half. THe hardest thing for me was having to let myself gain weight, over twenty pounds for awhile, and still work. I probably weigh about 115 now and make more money than I ever have.
WHat is it about? Feeling good. I still run every day (average @ 5 days a week) but I don't do the crazy miles. I eat, a lot - or I wouldn't have the energy to work or run, and, I never get on the scale. It is evil!

I feel the same way you do lilac.... though I know I am not "fat" at 5'7 and 120 pounds, there are always things I can nit-pick about my body and flaws I will always see. I think in my own mind I will always be a work in progress. I do not think anyone can ever reach "perfection".... anyways what is the definition or perfection anyhow??? I have always been athletic and into running, but about 6 months ago I really got into exercising with weights. I do light weights at high reps to achieve that "toned" look of muscle without the bulk. Though they are still a work in progress, my arms are more shapely and toned and my legs look longer and leaner than ever!!! So while I have things I do not like about my body I do feel I am moving in a good, healthy direction.
