Bundy was a real freak. I read "Stranger beside me" by Ann Rule, all about Bundy.

Ann Rule worked at a suicide prevention hotline with Ted Bundy. Talk about working both sides of the street!

    From the editorial review there...

Not long ago, true crime writer Ann Rule recalls lying on an operating table. The anesthesiologist leaned over before putting her to sleep. "Ann," the anesthesiologist said softly, "tell me, what was Ted Bundy really like?" Despite meeting Florida's electric chair in 1989, the subject of Rule's bestselling book continues to haunt her. Rule and Bundy were friends. They met in 1971 at a Seattle crisis clinic, where they shared the late shift answering a suicide hotline. Their subsequent conversations, meetings, and letters spanned the rest of Bundy's life as he evolved into one of the century's most notorious serial killers. It's been 20 years since Rule first penned this chilling account. But the story--and her 2000 update--will still have readers reaching for their Xanax. No gratuitous gore here; just the basic, bone-chilling evidence. In fact, like a protective mother shielding us from horrors too awful to mention, Rule seems to avoid delving too deeply into crime scene descriptions. She devotes one paragraph in her new afterword to her discovery that Bundy engaged in necrophilia and returned to the scenes of his crimes to "line dead lips and eyes with garish makeup and to put blush on pale cheeks." She tells readers that John Hinckley, who shot Ronald Reagan, and David Berkowitz, the Son of Sam Killer, traded prison correspondences with Bundy. And she hints that Bundy's insatiable killer instincts may have started when he was a 14-year-old paperboy. (Ann Marie Burr, an 8-year-old girl on his route, mysteriously disappeared in the middle of the night and has never been found.) The skimpy update is over too soon, leaving readers wanting more and offering further proof of the public's never-ending fascination with serial killers. --Jodi Mailander Farrell --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

    Freaky.

hey leigh...to be honest...his family background didn't surprise me...neither did it surprise me when...after his mom told him the truth about her being his mom...he seemed to go off the deep end...

didn't know about the first girlfriend/2nd victim...or alledged second victim...or that he killed more than 37 women and young girls...or that in took them almost 20 years to catch him...

i knew about him reeling some of his victims in by charming them...or tugging on their heart strings...pretending to be hurt and needing help and all...

I think to a point some guys take the porn stuff too far. I remember I used to have this regular that came in every night, sat alone, drank nothing but water....he would never tip or talk to me unless I was wearing the school girl skirt. Then I found out he was a registered pedophile! Once he knew that I knew, he quit coming in. I always thought he was so sweet! *shivers*

I never really 'got' the schoolgirl thing...

One can take anything too far, really.

Ted Bundy blamed porn publically just before they fried him, on some televangelists show. Evidently the devil made him do it.

Anyone who is in a SC every night either has something strange going on up there, or just has no social life whatsoever.

the chicken or the egg.... a mystery that still baffles.

I used to say--- in retort to those claiming men who watched strippers followed up with rape--- I would reply that the man who rapes is already psychologically malformed ---is already in trouble,

the same could apply to pornography - in some sense that not all who view the pornography will seek to rape a woman, a child or a beast (zoinks) that something has already gone awry in that person's development in the first place.

Madcap - after an evening of striptease entertainment would you later seek out an opportunity to rape a woman as result?

Absolutly not, but then i'm a relatively normal human being. That whole "Devil made me do it" line of bullshit is really irritating. It is used way too much, and for more than just adult entertainment. For instance, i could personally care less that a serial killer's mommy didn't love him enough, or that daddy used to hit him, it's tragic but plenty of abuse victims aren't out killing people (insert any other crime there, as well).

Taking your striptease entertainment example and running with it, if what those moron's say is true (That watching strippers leads to rape) then why do the majority of men who go to SC's not immediately morph into predators and rush off looking for some lone woman?

Sure, i'd imagine some guys with that stupid tendancy attend strip clubs (or watch Jenna Jamison's latest flick), but that tendancy was in them from the get-go. It's not like it's a brand new tendancy.

ok...this may seem a bit off topic but....I was watching a Primetime special about identical twins seperated at birth. They found that these people had a LOT of similarities. For example, they would sit in the same position, dance the same way, like the same color, wear the same style clothing, be involved in the same activities, and so on.

They did a whole long thing on these two girls who were seperated. When they met, they were both wearing similar green bubble jackets. Neither of them could say anything but "hi." They reacted to each other in the exact same manner. They both danced....in fact they both did hip hop. One majored in psychology, the other minored in it. One was raised Catholic in Long Island, and the other Jewish in NYC. One went to a pricey private school, the other went to public school. But oddly, they both had very similar grades and interests. They had totally different backgrounds. But they came out being more alike than not.

This brought up the nature vs. nurture question. And this is the best part....they mentioned that studies like this show that it isn't really nature VERSUS nurture, but nature VIA nurture. Basically, we all have a genetic predisposition to like certain things, to be good at certain things, and to look a certain way. However, the way in which we are raised determines the degree to which we can attain our genetic goal. For instance, they mentioned that both girls danced. One could easily say that's a nurture thing, since their mothers obviously enrolled them. But, the interesting question is WHY did the mothers enroll them? It's because they noted the genetic predisposition--a general like and ability in that area. So therefore, the "nurture" part helped to activate the "nature" part. Kinda goes with the psycho serial killer thing--was it in their genes or did something happen to them to make them do it.

    I think it's SUPER interesting!!!!

Madcap I hope you werent offended by my rhetorical query - I was just making a point I thought had relevency and you were the only male in this thread...

But I too agree many people come from troubled backgrounds and we all have a story and many overcome and succeed in being wonderful human beings - some absolutely fall to the wayside - or further.

and I think there is a combination of nature AND nuture in many instances of the likes of Bundy (or insert any wacko here)

I agree - interesting and intriguing SCGirl - I agree.

Of course not, i got where you were going with it. But, honestly, that devil-made-me do it line of defense actually does drive me up a wall. You hear it constantly.

At the time that Ted Bundy got electrocuted I remember that someone paged Ted Bundy to General Electric on the trading floor loudspeaker system. I thought it was funny.
