Default Should I go for it?

    Hi everybody,
I don't want this post to be too long so I'll try and keep things brief. I'm 19 in Tucson, AZ, and have been wanting to dance for a while. I've talked to my boyfriend (he's ok with it) and my family (obviously this is not their number one choice but they aren't going to disown me). Emotionally I know I can handle it, I'm not worried about lying to friends or being "discovered" everyone has been very supportive whether or not they themselves would choose to do this. However, I'm worried about the physical aspect. Idealy I'd love to come into this as a gorgeous lady, but I'm not quite as toned as I so desire. I'm 5'5 and about no more than 130lbs, but like I said, lack that toned quality. I know it will get better if I continously work on it, as I have been (watching my diet, pilates and running) but I'd really like to start making money and get comfortable with dancing before school starts in the fall.
Is it better to wait? Or just go for it and just get better as I go?
    Sorry for the long post.
    Thanks for your help!!

If you are comfortable enough to start now then go for it! The dancing will help tone. It's great exercise in and of itself. Keep doing the other things you are doing too, watching what you eat, pilates etc. Check out the body business section of the forums too for pointers on toning up.

girl I would go for it now because all of us college people know how stressful the work is. I think you should start now and slowly get the hang of things instead of starting that and school at the same time. Good luck!!

5'5" and 130 is NOT a prob. I danced in Phoenix, and you'll find a lot of good clubs there will welcome you. I'd shoot for the topless clubs -- pretty much the same money as the nude clubs, a little more milage, but a lot better clientile. I never danced in Tucson.... if it's like Phoenix, then you'll do great. However, if there is anyway you can dance in Phoenix instead, you'll get a lot more of the traveling business guy money and less of the college frat-boy money (or lack thereof, if you know what I mean)

I dont see a problem with your height and weight either... it sounds totally appropriate. Start now if you are comfortable with it. Keep your diet and exercise up! Im trying my hardest LOL. When I started dancing I wasnt toned either but Ive seen a difference with dancing 5 nights a week. Good luck hun!

Thanks everybody, you girls are such confidence boosters! I think deep down I know I should just go for it, I just needed a push in the right direction.

    So for my next question...
I just bought these boots and am much more comfortable in them than my clear spikes. If the club doesn't have a 6" minimum rule is it okay to wear them and what with? I'm thinking black skirt with a red/white top? I love costumes but can't think of anything good... I know from other threads that newbies should start off with skirt and top sets, but any specific ideas for these shoes?

    http://www.snaz75.com/easy-5018.html

    Lol, they are discontinued now...

    Susan,
Phoenix isn't an option right now, I have a part time job here at the University that I have to keep as part of a dumb work/study deal. But I'm definitely sticking to topless (friends that have done the nude thing here say that tipouts are twice as much and the college kids who can't drink tend to think the cover charge gets them the whole deal-no tips or dances neccessary) and plan to go to the eastside clubs. These clubs I'm guessing cater to an older crowd (hence the alcohol) and are closer to the air force base which should bring in some willing spenders, no? I guess I'll find out!!
Should I ever come up to Phoenix, though, I'll drop you a note!!
    Thanks for the input!

The base does not really generate the customer you want hence Raiders Reef is not too great.

The other topless clubs are ok.

The spike 6 inch heels are sexier than boots. Most clubs require a 5 inch heel. Personally I think boots may hurt your money.

Yeah, I thik the heels are sexier too. I just wanted to be comfortable for the audition.

I didn't plan on Raider's Reef, despite the fact I live across the street. I was thinking more along the lines of the Candy Store, Ten's or TD's.

I have my 5 1/2 inch barbie doll shoes and they make me look totally awsome but I can dance in them. Ill wear them for one set and Im done for. I wear a pair of black boots with almost all of my outfits. I really dont care whether it goes with the outfits or not. Id rather be comfortable than be miserable all night. My customers dont mind... theyd rather me actually DANCE and put on an entertaining show than have to wear those shoes. I had one regular say its become one of my trademarks LOL. I know some clubs arent so easy when it comes to outfits and shoes. I like my club cause they give me the freedom to do what I want as long as customers are enjoying the show and having a good time.

I was also thinking about going as Darby or Derby. I figured it would be different but nothing too unrealistic. Does that sound alright?

Pisces3x3, are the boots harder to get clothes over though? Do you have to worry about that?

Sorry for all the questions. I'm just nervous. k:

Guess who was just offered a job on the spot when I stopped in to a club today to grab a waitressing application?

The manager said that I didn't need to audition, or even start out on the stage for a little while if I felt too uncomfortable. He told me to come in whenever to start (I go to Santa Monica for a few days next week), so I guess I'll go in next week?

Argh!! This seems too good to be true! When I get there he's not going to say, "Oops, made a mistake, you really aren't our type" when I get naked will he?

Thats awsome hun! I too never auditioned. I walked in to get a bartending application and they were like "do you dance?" and thats my uninteresting story of how I started dancing LOL. Glad you got the job! As for the boots. I say the boots are easier for me. Everyone works in their own way. Experiment a little at home before you decide. I WISH I could wear my platforms at work and keep em on all night - they look so sexy! But for me its just not possible. Im thinking of switching shoes. No one at my club complains about wearing platforms all nite so it may just be that I have a bad pair of shoes. Trust me Ive worn them for a long time and they arent new so Im thinking its gotta be the shoes. But the boots are the most comfortable for me. Good luck babe!

I've worked with a Darby and think it's a cool name. Don't care for Derby though, sounds too horsey to me.

As far as getting a bad pair of platforms, it's totally possible. I have some pairs that are so comfortable it took alot for me to throw my favorite pair away the other night but I had to they were so disgusting I wore them to death. Some toes are rounder and some pointier. Also underneath the toe on the sole notice some platforms are flat some toe soles are angled up (maybe better for girls who like to rock or "stand" on their toes). Pleaser platform standard slip-ons are my current fave. God I hated throwing them away guess I should just go shopping for a new pair.

I have boots too used to wear them all the time literally (gone through many pairs). I've been told too many times though I'm covering up one of my best assets, my legs, plus I get hot and sweaty and the boots start to really stink if you wear them all the time. If it's support you need have you tried the little ankle granny boots? You can tie them tight and they really support your ankle.

Darby sounds like a cool name. (Sapphire: over here in the UK they spell it D-e-r-b-y but pronounce it Darby...perhaps that's why kandee was picking between them.)

Anyhow, kandee, knock em' out! And good luck

oic. Seeing Derby makes me think of the Kentucky Derby = horses (although they are thoroughbred race horses)

    but I do like Darby.

Congrats on getting a job on the spot! That's great!!

I don't think boots are a good idea. I love the way they look myself, but I have been sitting with guys who say they won't get dances with Dancer X because she's wearing boots. Guys like skin, especially beautiful legs. Keep searching for the right pair of heels. Once you find a pair that's comfortable, you'll get used to them in no-time.
