    Default Which Pilates course do you like best ?

    I am wanting to start Pilates to lengthen my muscles and strengthen my core and I was wondering which Pilates method people here prefer. There's alot of hype about Windsor but their dvd sets are a bit more pricey so I am wondering if they are treally all that much better or if its just b/c of the celebrity endorsements

    I am very satisfied with my Windsor Pilates. Whether it is better than others I can't tell you... haven't tried anything else!

    eBay has the Winsor Pilates set.

    It's pricier because of the celeb endorsements. I have been doing Pilates for about 6 years now...and I have everything ever written, taped, etc about Pilates (was studying to be certified for a while).

    If you are short on money, you can always get the Pilates tapes by Gaiam (http://www.gaiam.com). They are all the same. There is nothing that Mari Windsor does that is "better" than anyone else...she's just promoted her line more. With that said, I would strongly advise saving some money and going to an actual Pilates studio for beginner instruction. The movements are very specific and if not done right do not do much for your body. You need to learn proper technique before you can fully benefit from the workout. If you cannot afford to go to the studio, then use the tape, but make sure you have a full-length mirror to check your form and stop the tape at every movement so you can do it slowly until you build up the strength and knowledge to do the moves faster.

    Good luck...and always listen to your body...if something does not feel right, then don't do it!!

    Whilst I love my Winsor Pilates... I'm with Venus in that I know I need to go to a live studio before I can really benefit. I just know that there are things I'm doing wrong or not quite right.

    I swear by Pilates and whilst the Winsor Pilates is pricey ... I still feel I got my money back 10 times over as it is the only exercise video set (I've quite a few collected) that I've used consistently.

    I tried Tae Bo, Tai Chi, Aerobics, Yoga for Women, Yoga for Sports.... but my Winsor set has given me results time and time again.

    ??? I feel like I have dumb question but I think I'll ask it anyway....what exactly is pilaties???? Does it make you lose wieght in a different way? Or is good ole fashioned cardio the best for dropping pounds. What does pilaties do for you that other excersize doesn't?

    It strengthens and tones your core (abs, back). Effectively does the same to the rest of your body as well.

    and the best part that I liked... increased my flexibility. It strengthens your muscles and core whilst helping you stretch which increases your flexibility. I had better results with Pilates than I ever did with any other exercise regime/program... including "good ol' cardio".

    I also walk and ride my bicycle.. so it is nice rounded exercise program/regime for me.
