Default Question: Working out in the morning

Okay, I've read several places that the best time to work out to burn maximum fat is in the morning, before you eat anything. That's what I've been doing for about the past week, and I'm doing fine. However, I've also read that, by working in the morning when your body is in a fasting state, you're really just burning muscle. Any of you have a clue which is the correct approach?

Also, I'm going to get some of that Tonalin CLA today and give it a try. Wish me luck.

I know working out im the morning helps me stay on track. If I worked out any later, I would keep putting it off. Working out in the morning does raise your metabolism and energy through out the day!!

your body will not start burning muscle becasue the body burns fat before muscle so if you have any fat on your body (which we all do) then the body will use that as fuel before using muscle.

I rarely work out but when I do, I love working out in the morning! It gets me all juiced up and I have loads of energy throughout the day.

    I love you guys!

I came on the site today specifically to get some motivation to start up a morning workout program.

    Thanks

PS If any of y'all have tips on how to get out of bed, that would help, seriously, I am a snooze queen.

    Bonnie,

I am exactly the same way! I'll tell you what's worked for me (though I haven't been doing this lately):

Pick a time to get up every day and stick to it. You will be tired the first couple of days. Don't take a nap in the afternoon, though; that'll screw this up. You will start going to bed earlier naturally, because you'll be tired earlier.

Make sure you get enough sleep for you (this varies from person to person; for me, the ideal is 8.5 hours). Don't drink caffeine four hours before you go to bed (again, that's what my system needs to calm down), and don't eat for at least 3 hours before bed. Anything you eat that late should be relatively light as well, so you aren't up digesting. Hope that helps.

Wow I needed some extra motivation to get up in the mornings.

I go jogging at like 530 every morning but just find myself so dang tired and can't get up. So I started to set my cell phone alarm at 645 and put it across my room so I am focused to get up and turn it off and since I am up anyhow I am might as well put my shoes on and start going at it.

I also love working out in the morning. I noticed that once I get in that extra morning cardio I eat cleaner and feel soo good about myself. I also do another 2 miles in the evening. But noticed that instead of 530 I have more energy at 645 so I am going to start getting up that early.

So set your alarm at a set time and put the clock across the room so you have to get up. Then I already set my clothes out with socks, and my running shoes with my cd player on top of my clothes ready for me to just change!

    Hope that helps!

Put the alarm (use one) way across the room, turn it up very loud! By the time it goes off you have to get out of bed to walk over there and turn it off! By then you (should) will be up and moving around just by doing this.

PS buy an alarm that is annoying!

Your tips will all help. (I hope! We'll find out in the morning!) But it's really really helpful to me to know that other people who enjoy sleeping can drag themselves out of bed and do it anyway!

I'm a snooze queen too! And alarm clocks give me mini heart attcks every morning (I startle very easily and nothing bothers me more than loud noises). I've ALWAYS had a serious problem getting up. I missed a LOT of school because of it. BUT, if you have the money and don't mind searching a bit, I'd suggest that you try one of those special clocks that wake you up slowly. There are ones that do it with sun lamps, ones that use nature sounds, ones that use aromatherapy, and some that use all of the above. I found one that is now discontinued (don't know why) that does all three. I had to do a LOT of searching for it though. I never bought it though--it was really expensive and I was put off by the fact it was discontinued (I was worried they might be a hazard or something). Try ebay--they might have something to suit you. I honestly don't know how well they work since I can't afford to get one atm....not to mention that everyone reacts differently....but it's something you might want to look into.

An alarm clock with a cd player would be great to get you up in the morning. Have it set to a song that really gets you going and ready to workout.
