I keep hearing bits and pieces about an Australian Strippers Union, but now can't find any useful details. Do any of the other Aussies know about it? I'm not sure that I think it's a good idea, but I'm interested to know more.
There was an article in Thursdays Gold Coast Bulletin this week - I can't find it on-line but it was almost the same as the one below and I assume its the same person, because someone gave me a phone number once for the same person - I don't know what happened to it. The below article is 2 years old. I also found this.

The newly-registered Striptease Artists Australia Inc (WF1342) will seek an industry award to cover an estimated 15,000 to 20,000 strippers nationally to address what it says has been a 200% drop in wages since table-top dancing took off in Australia a decade ago. Association sec "Mystical Melody" said table-top performers rely on patron’s tips. Most pay shift fees (around $25) to clubs, with one shift’s takings varying between a couple of hundred dollars to a deficit. Performers under the traditional system are guaranteed to receive $600 to $1,500 per shift, while private shows attracted more, she said. The award will also set OH&S standards, which Mystical Melody said would also benefit employers in terms of obtaining insurance. The SAA Inc is finalising its log and expects to serve it on employers in August or September. AIRC Vice President Tony McIntyre registered the association on June 25. (PR919278. 25/6/02)
