    Default Raids...serious subject

I have only been dancing for a little over a year...and I only dance one or two days a weekend, and I am having a hard time with something that has been happening in my area. I am from Michigan, working in the Detroit area. Recently the bigger clubs and the club I am currently working at are being raided, and girls are being arrested. Some of the girls arrested I know are not prostituting themselves or doing any extras, but are still being arrested for what seems to be just simply giving a lap dance...I was wondering if anyone knows anything at ALL about this subject. I know what I do when I give a dance, and I know that every club/girl/city/state has different ways of doing things and different rules, but I am feeling very lost. I don't do extras and I am an honest working student/single mom who goes home to my daughter at night. I am not trying to get into any trouble that is for sure...and at my club they basically just tell me "well if you dance for an undercover cop...you're screwed." This isn't good enough for me, but the club I work at is high class and I can take home $700-$1000 a night where at other clubs in the area I can take home on average $300-$400...so I basically just need someone to talk to and some help. It would be greatly greatly appreciated if someone could respond with anything at all.

What do you expect working at a strip club?? McDonalds doesn't get raided because at least that is a respectable job!!!!!!!
What is more respectable: Dancing a few days a week, making enough money to pay for school and support your child(ren), or working at McDonalds, which would require much more of a time committment and therefore less time spent with your child(ren) and doing schoolwork, and most likely being unable to make ends meet?

The answer to this is pretty clear to me. I think mothers who work and go to school at the same time that they take care of their children should be given awards every day! That's hard, RESPECTABLE work.

I was present at a police raid in my club last year. It was scary, but it depends on the laws in your area and what illegal activities are going on in your club as to whether you can be taken in. Does your club have a VIP room? The fuzz will likely zero in there to find prostitution activity.
Does the club management seem attentive about matters like keeping business licenses up to date, and searching for drugs? At my home club in CA, the owners were fanatical about drug searches and enforcing no-contact because the local cops were eager to find a reason to lean on the club. Yes, the police are shady too when it comes to strip bars....
So....if your club has a good reputation, breath easier. I'm sorry that they gave you such flip-sounding advice ("well, if you dance for an undercover cop...you're screwed.") Not very responsible.
PS LOCK your things up!!!! If there is a raid, someone could slip illegal contraband in your bag or locker. Do not trust ANYONE.

    Jules-
The truth of the matter is- what goes down in most stripclubs can easily fall into lewd behavior through interpretation of MANY local laws. Many regions that have full contact lapdances have something somewhere in their local arsenal that dictates 4' rules or non-contact rules, but have previously never been enforced.

Near election times, when heat is placed on local authorities or local politicians from conservative groups, or when politicians and police chiefs feel they have something to gain in the public eye, these round-ups and raids occur and they are rarely fair or with an even hand.

Obviously, if what is the "norm" for your club can be stretched or fit into local laws/ordinances as illegal, there is a chance you could be cited, arrested or otherwise penalized even if you are not actively participating. If you are planning on working through this raid period without relocating, the best advice is to find yourself a pro-sexworker lawyer NOW and have them ready in a pinch if needed, as well as have them research local laws for you.

Van Hagar for a newbie that was a totally insulting post towards the dancers it is a respectful job in as such that it is a job they are not sitting home on their asses collecting welfare like I assume you do

As long as the dancer has class and is able to carry a conversation I am happy to part with my money

But there are a few here in Vegas that at each club will offer "extras" and while I find this amusing I also find it repulsive as to be honest if she offered me "extra" who else has been offered the same thing in the last hour?

So a distinct line between dancing and prostitution dancing is a respectful job and even escorting as itself is still a respectful job to each his own I always say the two should never mix as that is when trouble starts

    Just my 2 cents

And Van Hagar I agree very stupid name unless you were sammy himself which I seriously doubt but even then it would be a stupid name as he got fired from Van Halen so come back and talk some more when you either
    1. grow up

Hey, it sure is fun to demoralize myself and be unrespectable, if that's what I'm doing. Sure as hell beats flipping burgers and being on welfare! Now let me go give that hot guy over there a lapdance....

Holy Christ!!!! What the hell do you even have an account here for????? I guarantee that if you had the opportunity to NOT work at McDonalds and make some real $ instead of living off hand outs from the government, you would do it. Unless you're just a goddam lazy ass who thinks it's all owed to him!!! By the way, that last statement on the most recent post didn't make you any friends here!

So sorry to Jules52 that this guy had to make your thread go a completely different way.

Yah, well maybe your fat, out of shape, ugly ass body is demoralizing to view in naked.. but for those of us on this forum, our nudity is impactful, life-purpose giving and oh so segsy!

Say, what's that I hear? Oh, it's the french fry buzzer. Go take them out of the grease burger boy!

Oh, I found a cute little button... report to moderator!

Now back to the subject at hand...

I went through a raid a few years ago. It was near election time and the club I worked at wasn't the only club to be raided that night. All the major clubs in the county had gotten raided, in fact. No news teams (was done before, with all the arrested people shown on camera), no reports in the paper (was done before), and oddly enough, NO ONE from the club went to jail or was convicted (we paid bail to the officers right then, NEVER done before).

Honestly, no one from my club thought we would be raided due to the greasy palm theory. IMO, that's why the county stepped in.

Raids can be scary, humiliating and they can end your career. Something you DO NOT want to go through. Also, if convicted, scholarships and finicial aid could be lost (among other things).

Didnt Detroit pass some new distance laws recently ???
I'm guessing thats what they are being arrested 4..... Tampa did the same thing a few years ago. The raids will probably end after election season is over, not that helps u now or anything. Its a sad fact that alot of the time even if one person is breaking the law everyone in the club can be arrested, how cops prove their case on everyone is beyond me though. But courts, cops and politics in general is no friend to anyone is our industry. We are easy targets and people use that to their advantage to get votes

yes I was going to ask Jules what exactly is the law concerning lap dances. If they did indeed pass some new distance ordinance, there's your answer right there.

You work at McD's AND collect welfare?? LOL...dipshit...if you worked any job at all, then you would not be able to collect welfare. Since you are, then you are defrauding the government and taxpayers. You are the last one to be talking about behaving in a "respectable" and non-demoralizing manner.

    Get lost.

That would be why everytime my daughter and I go to McDonald's they never get the order right, or that no one knows how to count back change right? At least in this profession we get the orders right, we rarely have to make change because we don't have to give change, we usually keep what is given to us.

So you are committing fraud and admitting to it? Maybe you're jealous because you eat too many fat laced burgers and sit around on your fat ass collecting welfare from tax payers (like myself and many of us here on this forum) and can't take your clothes off!

I can't stand trolls like you- and here I am wasting my time on you.. but, I am not about to let you comments go without commenting myself...

Jules: I would make an inquiry in the city ordinance at City Hall in regards to your questions.. I did the same thing a few years ago in a city that was having raids.. follow whatever the guidelines are, and post them if you need to.
    Keep us posted...

I feel that contributing to the rising obesity rate in this country is a whole lost more demoralizing than dancing. Your job causes a lot more heart attacks and deaths than does mine. I may be selling my body, but at least I'm not selling death in the form of greese and artificial preservatives.

Sorry to get off topic, but Houston clubs have been raided a LOT lately as well. I guess its what comes when we live amongst narrow minded, "holier than thou" assholes that see us as "bad" just because our job doesn't fit into the perfect mold of a person their preacher talked about on Sunday morning (much like VanHagar).

Oh yeah, Van Halen sucked and Sammie Hagar made the band even worse!!!

I am super happy working at McDonalds and collecting welfare, but you are wrong about one thing, I am not fat, I am average weight. I live in my trailer home, I work at mc donalds 5 hours a day - 3 days a week, and I collect my welfare check and then I go buy beer with it every month. My life is great, and like I said, I don't have to sell my body to make a buck.

Now if you will excuse me, I am going to go listen to my George Thorogood cd and drink some beer.

Hey, minimum wage for a maximum loser right?...Van hagar?

Now would that be the Van Hagar comic strip about the Viking guy or that company that makes those tasty canned pork and beans? I get them mixed up. Maybe its all the money, I gave these Oklahoma hotties tonight for "selling their bodies" and "demoralizing themselves". Don't worry, they'll come and see you when they need a burger and fries.

Madcap is right. Please don't feed the trolls.

Back on topic though, guilt by association is a difficult thing to overcome. Treasures here in Vegas did everything they could to piss off the police here, so as a result, the cops want payback and payback is what they got. This summer alone, there have been over 75 arrests that have come out of that club where there are some clubs in Vegas that haven't had one arrest in two years. What does that tell you? Paybacks are a bitch I guess. Now, Treasures had a reputation of having lots of "extra" girls, so perhaps many of those arrests were legit, and perhaps some or many of them aren't. Choosing to work there obviously brings on some inherant risks though. The club is up for sale right now though, and I'm told that business there for dancers isn't that great either, so I'm not sure why anyone stays considering the constant raids. Caveat Emptor I guess. I suppose in your situation you need to weigh the money vs. the risk of being arrested.

I'd suggest hitting the road and working elsewhere, at least for a little while. That's one of the best things about the job. You can practicaly show up in any town and work that or the next night. Be sure to read up on local laws first though, you don't want to trade a bad situation for a worse one

I work around Detroit as well, and yes, due to the usual upheaval around election time, a new ordinance was passed in mid-March by the Detroit city council that banned lap dancing. I guess only non-contact table dances are technically permissable. Also, girls are not supposed to mingle and conversate with their clientele, which is ludicrous. The first few weeks vice was constantly raiding clubs and that has somewhat died down but I know it is still happening on a bi-weekly basis.

They've also moved their scope outwards to include the rest of Wayne County so bigger clubs are being raided, such as Flight Club, which was busted on Thursday of this week. I heard 12 girls were taken to jail and the club owner posted bond for them. It's nonsense really, and the bottom line is that the county makes more of a profit from the strip clubs when they can hand out tickets and please the conservative voters at the same time.

I've found the best way to deal with it is to work at a smaller club that's under the radar until the ordeal passes over, as it inevitably does.
For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you will long to return.
