    Default Mommy to be

well i'm trading in my heels for a nice "practical" pear of sneakers, and fuzzy slippers. I just got in from the doctor today, and in 8 months i'm going to be a mommy. A first time mommy at that. Any advice about absolutly anything would be helpful. My OB visit is next friday, so i'll know a due date then probably. Well there goes my size 2 i guess. I'll keep anyone thats interested up to date on baby info. Talk to you all soon
    Thanks

Eeeee! Congratulations, that's so exciting! Unfortunately, I don't have any helpful tips. I'm not a mommy, just a fan of them!

Maybe its just in my head, but i wokeup at like 5am so naucious and feeling so sick it wasn't even funny. The only mommy experience I have is for my 2 cats, my male seems confussed by me suddenly, and my female has latched herself to me, slept on top of me all night, is actually sitting on the back of my chair right now, and when the boys come near me the growling, hissing, and fighting begins. This is going to be a very interesting 8 months, oh and FYI this baby doesn't like popcorn, I found that out the hard way, and right now i'm attempting cerial, we shall see how that goes. Talk to you all soon.

    Kisses, and thanks

I was pregnant before (I didn't have the baby tho) and my cravings were anything Italian and no lie, Ramen noodles. The broth from the Ramen made my stomach settle when it was upset. The morning sickness usually only lasts a couple of months. And wait till you see your ta-ta's grow!!!! That's the best part!

BTW, I read Jenny McCarthy's new book, Belly Laughs, just for kicks and it has a lot of stuff in there that's bound to happen to you in the next 8 months. Try to get a hold of a copy. Quite an interesting read....

Congrats! I have 3 kids and would be happy to answer any questions. The morning sickness will pass hopefully by the 3rd month. Hang in there! Just try to eat healthy and listen to your doctor. A great book for first time moms is What to Expect When Your Expecting. I used it as a reference for the stages of developement for all three pregnancies! Definately get that book! Good luck and keep us informed.

Thank you so much everyone. A friend of mine has the "what to expect when your expecting" book and she's going to give it to me, she also has some other reading material. I believe your Ramen noodle story, and I just happen to have some in the apartment right now, so i'm thinking of trying that tonight maybe. I have my first OB visit next friday, it was the soonest they could fit me in ( i hope thats soon enough?) In the meantime i'm eating normal meals right now, but no soda, or artifical sweetners lots of milk and orange juice until i'm given instructions at my visit. Now I did the math on a pregnancy calculator on some website and the due date is expected to be March 11th, but obviously the Doctor will be able to tell me more surely. and the first day of my last period was June 4th so If i did that math right then i'm 6 weeks as of today (if i'm wrong feel free to correct me) I'm also looking into the idea of a midwife, but giving birth in a hospital in case of an emergency. Well, time for some lunch, and then shopping. I'll pop back on later tonight.

    Kisses, and thanks again.

I guess instead of stagenames its time to start thinking about baby names. I wont know the sex for probably 2 more months but it cant hurt to start thinking now, especially since all my friends and family, and myself are convinced its going to be a boy. First born in both our families have always been boys (me being the exception)

Don't. MSG has been proven to cause nerve damage in children and eating it while pregnant can cause your child to develop neuroblastoma (rare nerve cancer only present in children).

thanks for the headsup, when I told my fiance that i was going to have Ramen for dinner, he freaked too, because of the salt content mostly. He's going to make me a broth this weekend, that way he knows only good stuff is going in. Considering he used to be a professional chef I think I can trust it But thank you so much for the headsup on that. I ate a chicken sausage last night (chicken apple flavor) and some french cut string beans, and ginger ale. It was the first thing that hasn't made me sick in the past couple of days thank god

My advice is to read as much as you can about anything that concerns you re. the pregnancy, birth and babies. You will find that alot of (well-meaning) people belive themselves to be experts or to know better than you simply because your a first time Mum. Some people can be very pushy or make you feel terrible because you don't do things as they did or as they say.
If you want to have a natural birth read up as much as you can about medical procedures that some might try and talk you into having, so you'll know for yourself wether it really is nessesary or wether the staff are just trying to speed things up so they can go on break etc. Sorry i can't recomend any books - it's been a long time since I was in your position! If I think of anything I'll let you know though. (-: As someone else said - listen to your body!!!

you've got quite a few good points there Aussie, thanks. I'll probably get my hands on a few books this weekend. A friend of my fiance has all of them so i just have to wait to see her again, rather then spending a small fortune in the book store. Also a huge library is opening next monday a block from here, so you know where i'll be living for a while. Well its 6 weeks 2 days as of today, the boobs are killing me, and already bigger ( is that normal??) i'm going out for sports bras today. the cramping is the most annoying of anything it makes me a little nervous but the doctor said its normal. Oh well guess i'll adjust.

I just found out Im pregnant too, though I have only 6 months to go. Im getting a lot of nausea too but I found the best way to combat it is to eat regularly, in small amounts, and keep a piece of fruit by your bed so when you wake up have it straightaway so you dont get sick.
Also be careful of what you eat, in some foods there are artificial colours, some of which can cause birth defects. I dont know how they are labelled in America but here they are represented with numbers for the colour. Artificial sweetners like aspartame is another one to avoid.
    Good Luck to you!

I dont normally do this but the mom in me is comming out. As a mother, I will tell you to keep the saltine crackers very handy, even take a pack with you to bed if the "morning sickness" is bothering you. Right now concentrate on you and the life inside of you. don't worry about the size 2's right now. I was there with my first child and right now after three children I am only a size 5 and very happy with it. Instead of eating "junk food" try to eat raw veggies. They are better for you and the baby. Also, they sell prenatal vitiamins at Wal-mart for around $5.00. They are exactly the same as the doctor will prescribe to you. If you have any questions about anything feel free to p.m. me!

thanks for the advice Courtneyand congradulations keep me updated on how everything is going since you'll hit the different effects before I do. Thank you also Kryssy, I pickedup a prenatal vitamin at Eckerd drug store yesterday. The saltines I might have in the house if not i'll pick those up in the store today, along with some more fruit. I'm more tired then anything the past 2 or 3 days the naucia has subsided a lot, i guess thats a good thing, but i've already been warned not to get to excited it will come back. I'm also going for walks during the day for some exercise and fresh air as well. I had to quit my job ( aid in a daycare center) we had a huge rodent and bug problem, and the worst was me cleaning up a dead rat a few weeks ago before i knew i was pregnant. They also use straight bleach to clean everything and a lot of air freshners, and i know i have to avoid that too. Well now i'm searching for a good old fashion desk job Talk to you all soon.

    Thanks again,

Ok one more quick question, i've been drinking ginger ale when i am naucious but it doesn't seem to help seems to make it worse actually. I accidently drank a little bit of coca cola the other day and the naucia was gone almost instantly. I know the caffeine is bad and the sugars, but if i just have like not even 1/4 or a can at a time every couple of days is that ok?????

The nausia could be caused from suddenly stopping drinking caffinated drinks if you were a big Coke drinker before. Could also cause headaches. When pregnant, it is not recommended to drink caffeine because it constricts the blood vessels and can cause lower birthweight babies. Plus the babies born to heavy caffeine drinkers can go through withdrawl after they are born and are cranky. Remember, anything put into your body goes to your baby also. I'm not telling you not to drink caffeine, that is your call. If it helps with your nausia, a couple swallows shouldn't be too bad.
And it is normal for your boobs to be sore and bigger already. Mine were fabulous, I loved them! Too bad they weren't perm.!

good point Nichole thanks. Well my OB visit is on Friday so i'll talk to him about things as well. the coke actually made me sick today for the first time so that went in the garbage quick, the Orange Juice seems to be doing ok for now though. Look foward to hearing back from you all.

    Thanks,
