This has got to be the worst weekend I've ever had. Though it could have been worse. Friday night I drive to New Orleans to go dance... park my car in a lot nearby, and walk over to the club. When I get off, I go to put my bag in the trunk. Lo and behold, my car is missing. As in - not there. That's when I notice the tiny sign 3/4 hidden in the darkest corner of the lot with the notice "WILSONS TOWING - CALL 504-555-1234". I call the number, and sure enough they have a gold Lexus that was parked in the French Quarter.
I have no way of getting over there, so I stay with one of the other dancers until the next morning, and then get brought over to the place by them... $125 the poorer, I'm driving back home.
Then last night. I drive back up to N'awlins, park LEGALLY, and go to work. I had a little to drink, enough to get me loosened up but not sloppy at all. I drive home, and am 10 minutes from Baton Rouge - in the middle of nowhere - when I see blue lights in my rearview mirror. It's 3:40am, and I was clocked doing 86 in a 70. I performed a field sobriety test, which I think I did rather well with... apparently the officer didn't agree. However, he wasn't a dick - he just asked where I had been, where I was going, and how much I'd had to drink. "About 3 screwdrivers 2 hours ago"... He told me... 'Look, I'm cutting you a big break here. Drive to that rest station, park your car, and take a nap. I'll be by to check on you to make sure your vehicle is still there - you can leave anytime after 7am, just give the alcohol time to get out of your system'.
It really was a big break, because a $200 traffic ticket is nothing compared to the thousands it would have taken to get a DWI off my record. Still, I'm a bit pissed that the weekend is turning out to be so horrible. I'm barely breaking even - although tonight is "payday" - when the club pays up for the last 3 nights of my dancing there... With any luck, I'll have netted 200 even after the 125 and 200ish ticket. It would have been 500-600 had not I been an idiot twice...
Anyway, I just felt like ranting.
Live and learn.
