    Default Friends in the Movies

I just finished watching The Company by Robert Altman starring Neve Campbell and found that two of my friends from my past had featured roles in the film !!!

Sam Franke who I trained with at VSA and partnered with in an end of the year gala plays Neve's ex-boyfriend and has several speaking scenes especially in the begining and lots of camera time through out the film !

Also one of my favorite people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing, Julianne Keply has a solo dance scene (she's the blonde who ends up doing a role when another girl snaps a tendon.

If you like dance you will love this film. It has many performance scenes as well as rehearsals and great camera work that give it a very authentic feel.

Too cool! I saw some friends in the movies

PS- if you Google Julianne Keply you can see some awesom dance pictures

Wow that's so cool. I had a friend that was an extra in Harry Potter....that's about as close as I come. lol

There are a lot of good "dance" movies out there. My sister's absolute favorite movie is Center Stage. I like a lot of ones like Fame, Dance With Me, and Tap. And of course, there's always A Chorus Line and The Nutcracker. :-)

PS Save the Last Dance SUCKED!!! I'm sorry, but I've never seen a more pathetic attempt at "modern" choreography than that last audition scene. There's no WAY she ever would have gotten accepted to Juilliard dancing like THAT! Bleh!

I LOVED Center Stage. Fame was ok (very 80's, but hey...LOL). Tap was good and my all time fave ballet is Barysnikov's Nutcracker (no dirty jokes, y'all).

I'll have to rent the Company...if you say that it's good, I'll trust you. LOL Although Neve Campbell was never one of my fave actresses...

I watched The Company last night....While the dancing and the dancers themselves were beautiful, I thought the story was lacking. That's just my opinion...

It is cool that your friends were in it, though, TL....

I did LOVE Center Stage. Very cute movie...

I have a friend in Cali right now who's gonna be in a movie coming out with Val Kilmer and Robert Downey Jr.

Is it me, or is RDJ one of the hottest reformed junkies? I happen to dig Scott Weiland too, but only when he's wearing makeup and doing his fucked up dancing moves.

Well, yes the story could have been better but then they wouldn't have time for all the great dance scenes -LOL !

It was however a fairly realistic look into what it's like to actually be in a ballet company. You never know when you are going to get cut out of a piece or sometimes even why. You always have to be prepared to jump in and fill another persons part at a moments notice. It's very competitive and it can be just as or even more cut throat as stripping sometimes. And the way they presented the artistic director and choreographers was dead on to more than a few I worked with .

I totaly agree. The story was ok but I was really, really disapointed in the dance scenes in that movie.

And for those of you who liked Center Stage, the lead girl was a corps member with S.F Ballet so if you are visiting or live there you could go see the girl from the movie Her name is Amanda Schulls ( sp?) or something like that.

I was and wasn't surprised to see Sam get such a plum role in the film, he was thee heartthrob at VSA and as I'm sure you'll notice in the movie he has that Soap Opera star thing going He's had some smaller acting roles here and there as well.

I had hoped to see Julianne more though ... here an interested fact about her-after she turned 18 she had a breast reduction- a big one. She was a natural full D cup with these long skinny arms and legs when I met her in Boston. Her D cups were just in her way both physically and professionally. So she had them reduced as soon as she was old enough. Now she's an A/b cup.
She was a star with Atlanta Ballet for years but joined Joffery not all that long ago to do more contemporary ballets (also my fav) ironic she ended up with a super classical scene in the movie. If any of you dance lovers
out there are in Chicago you should check her out. Her scene in the film didn't do her talents justice !

Saw Joffrey's version of the Nutcracker this past winter. They have several more shows coming up...have to check them out. Just wish I could take my little girl to see them...but being a 2 year old, I know she wouldn't sit still through the whole ballet.

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell's kid plays (played?) on my nephew's hockey team in Vancouver. They bought a house down there so he could play on good Canadian teams...to increase his scouting chances...that's my claim to fame...they've come to a couple games when i've been there but i've never talked to them. I told me nephew when he makes it into the NHL he needs to buy me a hot sports car for being such an asshole when he was younger and I had to take care of him...lol

My friend was in Josie and the Pussycats...that's the only movie person I know, if that even counts! Awesome TigerLilly...I work at a movie store, and I haven't even seen it yet. Maybe it's not out in Canada yet...

The Company was a great film, I rented it and watched it myself after the big man could not stand sitting through the extended dance sequences.

It was shot in a very original, documentary style. I like how "normal" everyone was. Makes me regret that I did not continue my ballet training because I showed quite a bit of promise when I was younger....
