EDWARD SCISSORHANDS and THE THORN BIRDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Omigod, omigod, OMIGOD!!!!!!! Someone else here likes the Thornbirds?!?! I'm obsessed with that movie! I remember when I first saw it on tv....I was young....it was the first time I had seen a nearly naked man! And that Richard Chamberlain....whoah!!!! Hot shit! I nearly passes out when I saw that my local video store had the DVD. I rented it and watched all eight hours of it at least 4 times!

But you have to admit....it's even more twisted than Pretty Woman....I mean, for goodness sakes, the kid is SIX! Granted, be doesn't sleep with her for twenty years.....but something is seriously messed up with that relationship! Then again, what young girl doesn't want an older man like that. I think the only reason I ever liked the Matrix was because of the Thornbird....Keanu looks quite priest like in that little black number!

    I FUCKING LOVE THAT MOVIE!!!!!!!
The novel is 100x better tho! I've read it a million times. My fave color is ashes of roses now!!!!!!!

The kid may be six, and the plot is kinda fucked (priest is in love w/ little kid throughout her life, they have sex, she has his baby, Dane dies.......) But after that movie, did you kinda have a thing for Catholic priests or is that just my own fucked up brain?!?

AND BTW, IS THERE A PRIEST THAT HOT (Although NOT gay) THAT WANTS TO TAKE ME TO MATLOCK ISLAND FOR A QUICK ROMP?????

I own the VHS collection too! LOL! Glad I'm not the only fan of this oldie but goodie......

I read the "Thorn Birds," but it seems all Australians I meet get pissed off when it comes up....???
I loved "Dangerous Beauty." My ex had this crude compliment for the star courtesan : "She must have some of that magic P*ssy!" I'll never forget the part where the mother begs the courtesan to save her daughter from a drab and cruel future as a shut-in baby machine (wife), and instead teach her the seduction arts.

I will be back later this afternoon. I have to go shopping for the little black outfit at the priest's used clothes shop...

    Anyone for a little communion?

If you like Val Kilmer and can handle wacky SoCal movies, I recommend "The Salton Sea" from 2001. There is a traditional love story, but the way the movie is laid out, it becomes apparent at the end. It has been compared to "Memento." This movie pops up on cable once in a while too.
The Love in this movie is spread through, like a prism- love of friends (what Peter Sarsgaard does for Val), love of children (Deborah Kerr Unger does something desperate at the end for the love of her child), and ultimately what Val does for his wife. (I referred to the actors because I cannot remember all the names in the movie.)

I'll throw Say Anything with John Cusack out there as a good kinda romantic movie. "I gave her my heart and she gave me a pen." classic line. I'm also a huge Princess Bride and Notting Hill fan.

Known more as a baseball movie but Bull Durham is really more of a romantic movie than anything else and pretty good.

What's going on? No love for Serendipity?

That's all I have for now.

Since we're on the Hugh Grant theme, we should not forget Four Weddings and a Funeral very funny and a good romance too.

Ooh! Ralph Fiennes! How about "End Of The Affair". He and Julianne Moore had a HOT love scene in that.

"Cold Mountain" was, in its essence, a love story. A great one at that.

Without reading the thread, here are a couple of movies I think of when I think of romantic movies.

Powell and Pressburger's I Know Where I'm Going. Lovely romance with Wendy Hiller and Roger Livesey with some outstanding locales in Scotland.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - I really enjoyed the unrequited romance between Li Mu Bai and Yu Shu Lien, but I'm sure that was because of the dual spell of the coolness of Chow Yun Fat and the beauty of Michelle Yeoh.

Roman Holiday - This is an obvious one: Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn. In fact, there are other Hepburn favorites including Sabrina with Humphrey Bogart.

And anything with Bogart and Bacall. To Have and Have Not, The Big Sleep, Key Largo. Put your lips together and blow.

I'll probably think of more as soon as I'm away from the computer.
