    Default Dancing out of State - - - -

hey guys, i'll be a first time dancer in a few months. i know i've put a few posts up and i'm sorry if that annoys anyone... :'( I just have a lot of questions. So here is this one....

I tend to get really nervous but I get over it pretty fast. I was thinking that since I lived pretty close to the maryland state line, if i could go to maryland for an amateur night at some club there. (it would kinda break the ice for me a little) and that way, i wouldn't stress about seeing people i know the first time i'm on stage and if things don't work out the way i hoped i can just kinda leave it in maryland.

does this sound crazy or wierd or dumb? i really think this is the best for me. there aren't too many good clubs in pa except for philly and uh, my family lives in philly. so that's out of the question.

if anyone lives in maryland and knows of a good club for newbies please post it here or PM me. thanks guys! you're all great.

I don't know anything about Maryland, but you are on the right track already.
Pleanty of dancers work in other states, a smart idea, especially if you're worried about running into people you know.

Try it, I hope it works out for you!

Sounds like a good idea, I'm gonna start commuting from NY to possibly dance in Philly or Baltimore. Yeah, ask the clubs you're interested in if they have an amatuer night or maybe a slow night you could come in on.

I think that's a great idea to try dancing out of state. Do what makes you feel the most comfortable, especially when you are starting out.

Eventually though, you may want to dance closer to home. It can be helpful to save money on gas, no need to stay at a hotel / you have a shorter drive home late at nights.... Just thoughts to consider for later on.

    And you don't sound dumb!

    Hi,
I started out by doing an audition night at a club and ended up winning. I also fell in love with dancing on the stage. I think the idea you have is good and not out of the norm.

First of all...don't apologize for posting questions. That's what we're here for...okie dokie?

Amatuer contests are good for helping "break the ice". I did it...but, I would say that if you REALLY want to gauge how well you'll do onstage, you would need to start working at a club and just go for it. Every newbie has "kinks" to work out and that only comes with repetition.

It's not a crazy idea! Go for it!
