    Default First night

I just started working at Centerfolds in SF. I am not sure about the incessant claims that there is no money and/or no customers in the industry anymore. Centerfolds was packed, and it was a Wednesday. I've also noticed how evasive other members are when asked how much they make. I'm pretty straightforward-- I made 440, and the house took 100 so I walked away with 340, not bad for an amateur. A little tip for other newbies: the only people impressed with pole tricks are other strippers. Customers prefer TONS of eye contact, smiling and winking...anything to make them feel special.

P.S.: both of my knees are severly bruised and I'm quite sore. Are 8+ hour shifts the standard for most strip clubs?

Oh also, if you are a smoker, don't do it at work. It smells gross to have a girl rub up on you when she smells like ass. Seriously I am not sure why so many girls smoke while working.

i bruise SO easily, is it the same for you? I don't smoke but i can't imagine doing that when you're going to be close with people. As a non-smoker i know I can smell smoke on someone from a mile away, and it is not pleasant!

The bruises will go away in time...once your body/bones gets used to it. The pole will really bruise you...so stay away if you're worried about that!

Be careful of your knees tho...mine are shot. A lot of other dancers would agree. Try to keep the pressure off the knee directly.

Lorelei, an excellent post! You're perfectly right about "pole work" and eye contact. You need to do the three basic workouts for your knees--the leg press, the kick-up, and the pull-down. Physical therapists prescribe these to old folks and athletes who have knee problems.
