I got a phone call this morning purporting to be from the security folks at my bank. It attempted to solicit responses from me and told me to dial a number.
Rather than calling that number (since the caller was so incopetent they only said the number once and I did not have paper and pencil at the time I called the phone number) for the bank on the back of the card.
They talked to the bank security and Visa security who disclaimed all attempts to contact me.
Remember if you get called
1)do not believe that they have to be who they say they are.
Anyone calling you is suspect, calling them at the number on the statement or card is valid.
2)Make them prove they are who they say they are.
3)Automated systems do not make these calls--Real people do.
4)Ask them what your mother's maiden name is and your date of birth and any other damn thing they should know and only they should know like the date of your last statement and balance from that date and your last 3 transactions including amounts, day and time. If they are real they have access to that info. Ask to speak to their supervisor if you have any doubts about them proving who they are, even minor ones.
Never trust anyone who calls you and never give them info they should have. If they do not believe you when you call, have them call you at the home number they have in their records.
