Default Fibroids? Has anyone ever had to deal with these? (Pretty Long)

Well, I have. I have had them I think since I was 23, execept the stupid nurse practioners in the cheaper clinic would just say, well you have some sort of mass in there.

Yeah, like that is going to help. I had another female gyno tell to hurry up and get preggers so that I could have a hysterectomy and be done with it. That was when I was 25 :o

Well, I went to an herbalist and held them at bay until I was 28, then all of a sudden one of them just grew. Like to 7in by 3in just grew. It was on top of my uterus so they had to go in there and open me up and cut the bugger out. Just so I didn't have to get a vertical incision and ruin the ab definition, I was put on hormones that put your body in a temporary state of menopause for almost three months. This was to shink the tumor. It worked, I only have a tiny incisiion, but wow, talk about mood swings for three months!

Fast forward, I just turned 35 and as of about six weeks ago, they'r ba-a-a-ack! Not as big this time. Better technology. I may just have to have it blasted and not get cut at all.

But no, the biggest one is now in the BACK of my uterus

So, three options: get cut open again but w/ a smaller incision and only one night in the hospital instead of three like last time, get a partial hysterectomy, or go on the temporary menopause hormone shots to shrink the bugger so it won't interfere w/ PMS and I can have my 22 1/2 in. waist back!!!

This Doctor is cool. He has already prescribed herbs and medicinals to coutner act any side effects. He says they may come back, but hey, didn't they come back any way? Last time, they didn't give me anything to counteract my side effects.

I start my treatment after my next cycle which should be in 5 to 8 days from now. He told me since this one is half the size of my last one, I may not have to have the Depro-Lupron shots for that long. Hopefully just one or two doses.

I know I have made my decision. A good dancer friend recommended that I should post my situation on body business.

Any feedback would be good. And if somebody knows something that I don't about this, all the better

    Cheers, (doin' OK, considering)

Wow...I have no clue what fibroids are or how they affect the body. But, I can only say that you should do what you FEEL is best for you. I know that's not the best advice, but it's the only advice I can give.

Hope you feel better soon!! Take care of yourself!

    Hugs,
    Venus

    Venus,

They are not cancerous but they do continue to grow most of the time. They put pressure on your reproductive organs usually pushing them out which give the appearance of looking preggars, ( in my case I look about six weeks along), they can make your cycles heavy or irregular and can make sex difficult or it can even hurt. Sometimes there is spotting.

    M,

No, I don't have children. My husband and I plan to adopt. I never really wanted to become preggars, I just want all my stuff intact.

    Cheers,

I know some things about fibroids but it's probably best to look up information on the Internet about it. I have seen shows where women had babies and had their fibroids removed or had a hysterectomy. Sorry I can't tell you much because I've never been in your situation. I've had female problems but it never gotten to that point. Good luck.

Have you tried the hormone shots previously to treat them?

You are fortunate above a lot of women. Doctors used to have extreme policies in recommending hysterectomies to women who didn't REALLY need that much removed. My mom was one of them. You'll be okay. You already made the right decisions for yourself instead of getting steered or neglected by the medical professionals.

    MadMax,

Thanks for the props. The area I live in has a variety of modern and alternative medical facilities. UCLA is literally down the street from me and they have a great medical program.

To the other question: yes I have used the hormones before seven years ago in conjunction w/ surgical removal. Since this present tumor isn't as big, I am trying the hormones without the surgery. A lot of women have them, yet they are so small that they don't show up. They are actually harmless if they don't cause discomfort, spotting, bloating,et.

Thanks for all the commets. It will be nice to not have to use viccodin to dance because of the pain anymore and to have my almost virtually unoticalbe PMS systoms instead of the draining ones that I have now.

    Cheers,

    Hi Corey!

Yes, i was told (and saw it) i had 1 fibroid during my pregnancy. It was not bothersome, however pregnancy made it bigger, after the baby was born it shrunk very small.

Mine sat along my uterus. Our female hormones make them grow. Mine probably gets bigger during my period. After my period it will shrink again.

If they lay in alot of different areas of our female system they can be a big problem during pregnancy. Or anyother time for that matter.

I was told it is very tiny now, and millions of women live with them. Just have the Doc. keep an eye on it.

Spotting from it? Hmmm, maybe get a second opinion. Have it removed perhaps?

    Good luck hun,

    Pamela

    No Pamela,

No more removals. Had that done seven years ago and they came back and grew. My last big one was on top of my uterus, on a stock. It was huge, the size of a giant baked potato. That one caused a few problems, some bleeding during sex, many irregularly timed periods, heavy periods and constant bloating.

This one, which is half the size, is in the back of my uterus. My periods have been like clock work, not as heavy as before, I have had only one bleeding experience, but my PMS has become more bothersome.

I did research on the internet about an new embolization process. I may not be a candidate because of where the thing is located. My doc didn't mention it as an option.

The depo-lupron didn't really bother me when I did last time. I looked at it as if it was this experimental journey.

If they come back after the treatment, I may inquire about the embolization. I just don't have the downtime to get cut open, nor do I really want to. I don't want a hystorectomy either. My sister went that route. Her stomache will never lay completely flat again and she get's bothered by heat and humidity. She lives in Coco Beach, FL. She actually got her husband to get a transfer to Seattle.

Pamela, I am an athletic person who lives for snowboard season and am up for trying extreme sports of any kind. I would just hate to have my "female troubles" get in the way.

BTW, I found a good message board where women w/ my problem chat and give their experiences.

    Sorry about the long post

    Thanks for the support!

    Cheers,

    Corey
