    Default Adding food back into my life (after being sick)

    Okay, so here's my dilemma, and I'm really just looking for opinions and ideas...

    I have been very sick for a while now, and I've been able to force myself to drink 1 Boost spread out throught the day without getting sick. Well I'm feeling better now, but I have a feeling my metabolism isnt great from lack of activity and food. I want to start adding foods back into my diet, but at minimal weight gain, with maximum nutritional value.

    I was thinking of starting off adding another Boost plus a multivitamin (if I can hold it down), so that my body adjusts to more caloric intake, yet I am getting more overall nutrients than adding one snack/food at a time. Then when my body adjusts to the higher caloric intake, substituting foods in and adding more complete meals.

    Does this seem like a good plan? I really can not afford to gain weight right now, I'm pretty flabby even though I havent been eating much, b/c I also havent been out of bed much.

    Start drinking health shakes like protien to streghen your muscles. Go to Whole Foods or Trader Joes, get some healthy food, veggies, rice, beans, free- range meat, eggs, milk and keep taking those vitamins and drink mad water

    Wow hun have you consulted with a Doc. to see why you are sick. Also talk to a nutritionist about diet. Ensure is great for sick people trying to get calories from nutrition, and gatorade is good for electroltes, (sp).

    Plain water will fill you up and have NO calories. Drink water, but get some high calories drinks in you slowly.

    Some say a very very bland diet of brown rice and bolied chicked is great to help you out as well.

    Good luck, consult with a pro.

    Hi Hun,
    Sorry to hear you're under the weather. I would start out with soups,salads,smoothies and juices. Don't worry about the flabby skin just pick up some powdered Vitamin C and take 1/4 - 1/2 a teaspoon twice per day. And if you can Tonalin CLA too. Your body will be firm in no time and hopefully the vitamin C will make you feel better. I also drink pedi-lite or clear Gatorade,along with green tea and water to stay hydrated.
    Best of luck,
    Farrah

    Start with a liquid diet....and light foods....

    Soups...salads....

    And like someone said...make sure you've been to a doctor to see why you are so sick.

    Add in more activities as much as you can as you add back more food.

    Hope you feel better.

    Hope you've gone to the doctor!! Throwing up is not healthy for you at all. If you've been feeling like this for longer than a few days, then you NEED to go to the doctor!!

    Anyways, I would suggest light foods with as little "spices/flavoring" as possible. Usually when your stomach is upset, the spices, et al, are what make you even more quesy. I am not sure I would reccomend you taking the Boost supplements. It's made quite rich and could be causing you more problems with digestion (for the time being). I would suggest going out and buying a protein drink that you can mix with water. Yeah, it tastes kinda gross...but I think that would be easier on your stomach.

    Go buy some low salt chicken broth, a few pieces of chicken (with bone), carrots, peas, corn, and potatoes. Simmer all of that in the chicken broth until the meat of the chicken falls off the bone. Since the broth will now contain all of the nutrients of the veggies and chicken (and NO spices) you can use the broth with some unsalted crackers to help get your appetite back.

    Let us know how you feel!!

    Take care of yourself!

    Thanks for all the great advice! Yes, I have been to the dr. I've actually been hospitalized for this before. I naturally do not have enough bilirubin in my blood, which affects bile, among other things, so the minute I get stressed, sick, or go off my diet my body goes haywire.

    The once a day Boost was recommended by my dr. so that I am regularly putting nutrients into my body to help with the bile. I will def take everything you guys said in mind... thanks for being such a great help!!!

    (P.S. I walked a mile on the treamill today! )

    Hun i think maybe you should consult with the doctor about seeing a nutritionist. These people can plan out meals that are rounded for you.

    Worth a try.

    Good luck,

    Pamela

    first, liquid----> jello, broth, consume (sp), water
    soft foods---->cottage chesse, eggs, fat free refried beans
    protein----> chicken, fish, turkey
    fruits----->bananas, soft fruits, remove skin
    cooked/steamed veggies---->spinach, mushrooms,
    then you can move on the raw veggies like salads or carrots or whatever usually meat is the hardest for the stomach so left red meat for the last thing you try.

    I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

    Yes it really does ! The container I have is 5000 per teaspoon, I take half a teaspoon 2-4 x per day. Vitamin C really cleans out the system and can give you the runs if you take too much. So start off with 1/4 teaspoon and see how your body reacts to it.
    You will see results very quickly. PM me if you have any more "?s"
