Are there any common misconceptions about strippers or the stripping profession. Any truth to some of them?

well... actually, some gurlz are... but SO many aren't. i know a lot of dancers that are soccer moms & wives, yoga teachers, go to school, ect. they are just like anybody else but they just wear very little (or none) clothing at their jobs.

We're all whores,
drug addicts,
raped or molested,
gold diggers,
hurting for cash,
have low self esteem,
did I leave out anything?

Wait a sec - I thought you were all medical students working your way through school by dancing!!!!
Wait... the other big misconception: That we all lie when we DO tell them about school. I hate even mentioning it. Guys never believe me. What the F ever. lol

The problem with asking that question on these boards is that the majority of the stereotypes about strippers ARE TRUE. And from my personal experience, apply to about 80% of dancers. The other 20% do not fall into any categories of the stereotype............and this is where you'll find those dancers.
I look around some of the clubs I've worked in and for every 1 dancer who doesn't fit the usual descrption, there are 5 or 6 more who totally fit the stereotype. (which is probably why it exists in the first place.)
It's very sad, but very true. :'(
i must work with a steller bunch of girls because i would say less than 20% fit the sterotype in my club, more like 5 or 10%, i have however worked in the past with quite a few stereotypical dancers.
As quoted by Luckyone:
I asked directions from a genie in a bottle of jim beam and she lied to me.
Methodus saved my life!
people think were dumb... one time i couldn't hear what someone was saying to me b/c the music was so loud... so i said "what?" (in a cute way), and he commented to his friend "the hot strippers are always dumb."... ugh.
i have also had guys say to me, things like "wow youre pretty smart", which is offensive.
and like lexi said, i have guys that dont believe me that i'm dancing my way through college, so whatever, i don't even bother telling them anymore.
grr...

Seriously, I had one guy who was like "What school do you go to? What classes have you taken? What's your GPA?" in I guess an effort to ascertain if I was going to school or not. Geezus. He also spent ten minutes talking to me [not a large deal, 'cause there weren't too many other customers at the time] and when I ask him about a dance he's like "no, sorry, you're too young and remind me of my daughter." Maybe I wouldn't have if you hadn't been an idiot and tried to act like my father! <- I really hate those guys, by the way, the type that lecture you "about the industry." I'm a member of stripperweb, goshdarnit, I'm pretty informed about the industry!
Oh, yeah, drug-addicted drop-outs with 18 kids in a trailer park or slum apartment - My brother's favorite joke is: "You might be a redneck if you work without a shirt, and so does your husband."
"I still have my name
I still have my face
I have not run away from home
Doesn't seem so long
If I now embrace
Every single thing I've never known"
That every dancer is also an escort. Simply not true.

I dont have any misconceptions. They grind me and I give them money. Thats pretty simple.

I guess you don't have much use for table or air-dance clubs..the 4 that are left in the country at this point, anyhow.Originally Posted by FBR link=board=27;threadid=11786;start=msg151638#msg15 1638 date=1091922788

the biggest misconceotion that unfortunatly isn't true is that every dancer wants me. LOL.
have to take people case by case. I am sure many are skanks , gold diggers and so on. Then again so are many that don't dance.
do you talk dirty?
i always thought that was a weird question that all the other guys ask the strippers at the club i go to, do they do that in all them?
you mean they actully put strippers on the same level as the dumb-asses on that stupid show????? well now i've heard everything ???Originally Posted by Embers Flame link=board=27;threadid=11786;start=msg152403#msg15 2403 date=1092016233
LOL Nina well there arent any air dance clubs around here so I guess its a mute point. Like I said though, if Im gonna get a dance I like some contactOriginally Posted by NinaDaisy link=board=27;threadid=11786;start=msg151712#msg15 1712 date=1091932442
As an aside, I effectly do get air dances though, so to speak. When Im surrounded by 4 or 5 flockettesat my table, theres no way I have the stamina to take all of them up to the couch dance area. Im too old and worn out for that shit. So I wind up doing dances with one or two and the rest just get drinks and tips. Occasionally, one of the "tips only" ladies will give me a boob shot or an butt shake in a show of appreciation. I enjoy that too but if thats all I got I wouldnt bother.
Having said that, to the ladies who are able to make a living just showing some skin, I say more power to em.![]()
