He assaulted other women as well. One he held down and burned her with a pipe (while doing drugs) and the other I am not sure of, but read about it a few days ago.
Yikes.

LOS ANGELES (Aug. 6) - Funk legend Rick James, best known for the 1981 hit "Super Freak'' before his career collapsed in a cloud of violent drug charges, died Friday. He was 56.
James died in his sleep at his residence near Universal City, apparently of natural causes, said his publicist, Sujata Murthy. James lived alone and was found dead by his personal assistant, who notified police, she said.
The exact cause was not immediately known. "There'll be an autopsy and we'll find that out shortly,'' Murthy said.
A Life of Funk
With long hair elaborately styled in braids or Jheri curls, James was one of the biggest R&B stars of the 1980s, composing danceable rhythms and passionate ballads that gained a wide following.
Aside from "Super Freak'' - which MC Hammer used a decade later as the backing track for his rap smash "U Can't Touch This'' - James' hits included "Mary Jane,'' "Ebony Eyes'' and "Fire and Desire,'' a stirring duet with Teena Marie.
"He was really fantastic, he was a creator,'' singer Little Richard told MSNBC.

Toward the end of the '80s, James' fame began to fade as he became embroiled in drugs, legal problems and health troubles.
In 1993 he was convicted in two separate cases of assaulting women. The first case occurred in 1991, when prosecutors said James and his girlfriend tied a woman to a chair, burned her with a hot crack pipe and forced her to perform sex acts during a cocaine binge at his West Hollywood home.
James was free on bail when the second assault occurred in 1992 in James' hotel room.
He served more than two years in Folsom Prison.
In 1997 he released a new album, but a year later he suffered a stroke while performing at Denver's Mammoth Events Center, derailing a comeback tour.
In 1998 he also underwent hip replacement surgery.
James was not married and names of survivors were not immediately available, Murthy said. Funeral arrangements were being planned.
Holy shit!
I'm not saying that it's "cool" that he died...I don't know what kind of person he was at the time of death. I'm just saying I don't give a damn.

Yeah good ol' Rick did get caught up in his own hype. I watched a semi-documentary about him on VH-1 last night. It seemed like his ego grew out of control from all of the women, the money and the drugs.

Nah, the ego is gigantic in the first place. Rick was a sociopath. They have no superego, which makes their id and ego huge. The egg comes first in this case, not the chicken. These guys love sex, drugs, and rock n roll. They live for the moment. As they get older, it becomes harder to control their impulses, and alot of them become consumed with drugs/alcohol, which is basically what happened. My dad, a musician, was a sociopath. So were my two boyfriends, and basically every date I've ever had except for a few. They have no conscience, and they can't distinguish right from wrong. But they are excellent charmers and manipulators.... they care about nothing but obtaining power and control. The music is just secondary. They see people as tools to get what they want, and they have no empathy. Their brains are 1/10th smaller than ours... As they reach retirement age, their brain waves slow down and they begin to experience real feelings.... guilt, love, embarrassment, etc. that they never felt before. I can tell my dad is there now, although he still goes into rages. Mother has lived with him for like 30 years and has no idea he has absolutely zero conscience. LOL. She blamed everything on alcohol, but the egg comes first. Everything else is just secondary to the real problem..
Erotictonic, I feel for you. As a kid, I used to had such rock star worship, and when I grew up I saw that great artistic gifts did not make someone a good person. It must be tough learning about life that way.
Maybe no one remembers the "In Living Color" skit about Rick James tying a woman to a bed (the crack pipe incident); they played it as a version of Stephen King's "Misery." The Cake song is funny too. I'm sure it's about the woman abuse incidences.

Great post informative post Erotictonic. Thank you.
