Get a new boyfriend, then we might take you more seriously.
"She has written so well, and marvellously well, that I was completely ashamed of myself as a writer...But this girl, who is to my knowledge very unpleasant and we might even say a high-grade bitch, can write rings around all of us who consider ourselves as writers"
Ernest Hemingway on writer, aviation pioneer and horse trainer Beryl Markham
If you're a prostitute, and your boyfriend wants you to quit....I can see that. If you club seals over the head for profit (or fun) and your boyfriend wants you to quit....I can see that, too. But beyond things like that, you should not change yourself for anyone. You will always need to make SMALL concessions (such as putting the cap back on a tube of toothpaste)... but the point of having a long term relationship is that two EXISTING personalities are compatible.

Throw out the boyfriend...unless he's buying you new clothes and shoes...

Why do women continue to stay with guys like this?
I've always wondered the same thing. Topaz pointed out her own negative feelings regarding men in general and relationships as a result of having too many experiences with the stereotypical male personality. I honestly cannot relate to those types. I was raised to be an individual and to appreciate everyone else's individuality. My relationship is one where we encourage the other to be their own person. If I were to suddenly attempt to put restraints on my wife's personality, tendencies, and likes - I can guarantee you the resulting explosion and fallout would leave me a wrinkled burnt crispy critter on the side of the road. Why do women continue to stay with guys like this?
....but then again....she is Irish...and German....and Native American....good Lord, what was I thinking? No...I do not win many arguments.

As per other suggestions, do the following:
1) assess damage from bf
2) kick not nice guy bf to curb
3) buy new clothes
4) start dancing
5) get yourself a "nice guy" who respects you and your job
6) and for the love of god, please do not repeat steps 1-5!
