    Default Voucher for New Car

As a small favor from GMC for owning a disasterous, break-down prone GMC Safari Minivan, my family got a certificate in the mail for a close to one thousand dollar discount off of the purchase on a new GMC vehicle from a certified dealer. Prett neat, huh? But, my dad laughingly guessed the dealer would find a way to offset the discount with something else in the purchase.
Has anyone else gotten this deal? What do you think about it? I'm sure some will say not to buy another GMC vehicle, but the problems stemmed from the particular make of vehicle we owned. I'd get something else!

Dad is probably giving you good advice ! If you walk into a GMC dealership with a certificate which is only good on GMC vehicles, then the dealer has no reason to extend you any sort of special deal out of his "end", because he knows that you're going to buy a GMC. If on the other hand, you walk into the dealer cold and negotiate for the best deal on a GMC vehicle, and THEN spring the certificate on him, you're likely to do a little better. On the other hand, investing in another GMC with or without $1000 off the price may not be the wisest decision from a vehicle quality/value standpoint.

Thank you Melonie. My first thought was to keep mum about the certificate.

the certificate is nothing more than a rebate, which anyone gets the minute they walk into a dealer. Set aside all rebates and negotiate the price of the car seperately, then deduct the rebate. If the dealer refuses, then he is playing games.
