I am getting to see a bunch of showings of 'The Wiz" this month (my sister co-produced it) and I got to thinking about the history of the story of "The Wizard of Oz." The book series is about a hundred years old. Of course I could look on the Internet for more info, but this story is such a big part of Americana, I wanted to ask people here what they thought of it and what they read into the story. The big themes are: self-confidence, the value of home, self-growth, and friendship. Some people see references to world politics in the 1939 film version with Judy Garland, but not everyone.
