    Default DIRTY MONEY!

I read an article in Popular Science Magazine that said the average small bill of US Currency has microscopic trace amounts of cocaine (and other powder drugs,) fecal bacteria (e. coli,) other common bacterias, and plain old dirt. Something to think about before the next man at the club asks you to pick up a dollar bill in an incorrect manner, or puts it in his mouth for you to take.
On a cool note, the white and red flecks in the fiber of a currency bill is scrap cotton from Levi Strauss Jeans Company ("Red tab.")

I like putting that stuff on various parts of my body in case the customer decides to get fresh, they'll have a bad taste in their mouths.

That's why I don't like dancers sticking money in my mouth - although I have enjoyed, from time to time, the ways that they have in taking the dollar away.

Just remember though, the best prevention for germs is zero contact. A friend of mine who is an undergrad degree in biology explained that Purell Hand Sanitizer really does very, very little and it marketed based on people's fears of germs. In actuality we have more bacterial cells on our bodies than human cells. The amount of potentially harmful bacteria that you can pick up from dirty money is so small you shouldn't waste too much time worrying about it.

However...the best way to transmit bacteria and disease is through body fluids, which is a serious concern. That means every single time a customer puts his hands on you after he has gone to the bathroom or kisses you or anything else, you are DEFENITELY in harms way. This method of transmission is a real concern in our line of work - every had some loser sneeze in your face or cough on you? Ick.

I'm with KellyAllStar - I don't mind gettin' my hands dirty when I'm countin' a big, fat wad at the end of a good night. Although it is more annoying when I have counted the same bills repeatedly on a bad night.

My club rules don't allow picking up money with anything but your hands! I was so happy to learn this!! The manager said it was because the dancers kept getting sick over and over from the dirty money so they had to stop.

I've known this for years, a big reason why I won't take money with my mouth, even though sometimes it loses me money on stage.

If there's some dumbass by the stage with money in his mouth waiting for me to take it, I'll look at him and say "Did you know that over 90% of all currency has fecal bacteria on it?". Typically in a really perky and chirpy or sultry voice. The facial expression that results is pretty priceless.

    Fecal bacteria...yum.
I also read that a breeding ground for bacteria is in the bowl of mints outside of a restroom or by the entrance to a restaurant. Think about it...people finish their meal, go the restroom, and then walk out, grabbing an after dinner mint. I assume that a lot of people don't wash their hands. Yuck.

I'm a firm believer in trace exposure to nasties to build one's immune system LOL.

Go through life with sanitizers, avoiding contact and such... when something really nasty with a much larger exposure hits your system, you're pretty much screwed.

Not saying to around licking toilet bowls or nothing, but you get the picture.

I agree with Polecat. The individuals I have always known with major germ phobias always ended up in poor health. They claimed that they avoided germs BECAUSE they were already sickly, but I suspect the opposite......

Well, I'm not too crazy about fecal residue, but I'm not one to get phobic about germs either. After reading this post I might be more inclined to wash my hands after counting money, but I'm not going to lie awake tonight worrying about it.

Taking money from strangers with your mouth or other portions of the anatomy sensitive to infection would seem to be an understandably unappetizing prospect. But not nearly as unappetizing as doing what a lot of these guys love so much--kissing (and being kissed, "passionately" of course, by) that special dancer who only does it because they are so irresistable.

They did some kind of study with the Florida Legislature, I heard, following a rash of property seizures on the grounds that traces of cocaine were found on money possessed by various heinous fiends driving expensive automobiles. Something like 80% of the bills in their wallets had coke residue on them...

Has anyone ever seen MythBusters? It's a television show on The Discovery Channel. They take myths, urban ledgens, stories and test them to see if they are true or could happen. They did one on the fecal bacteria on toothbrushes if they are kept in the same area as the toilet vs if they are kept outside the room. Guess what they found? Both the control and the experimental groups tested positive for fecal matter. So unless you're sanitizing your toothbrush before you use it everytime, I wouldn't worry too much about it's presence on money.

Money is dirty, and you should wash your hand after you touch it, but keep in mind that a lot of things we think of as clean aren't "clean" at all. That's why we have bacterial fighting agents in our bodies. Bacteria can be good for you (to build up immunities, kill more harmful bacteria, etc.) but obviously it has a bad rep for a reason.

my point, don't sweat the small stuff. try to keep clean and no come in contact with other people's body fluids because that's what really gets you sick.
What grosses me out is when I think about the girls who do pole tricks at my club that don't sanitize the pole before they use it and then immediately do lap dances once they get off stage. At a nude club, that could be dangerous business.

Oh I know! I'm just glad that my club is nude on stage only, but there are still idiots that put their bare genitals on the pole, even though it is posted on the dressing room that you can't do that! At least private dances aren't nude. I can't hang with that.

BTW, I'm not a germphobe, just think that money's dirty so I don't want it near my mucous membranes!

Sometimes the antibacterial gel is good on the body just because it smells good but wards off lickers since it tastes nasty.

I agree..it's something to be cautious about, but not freak over. Unfortunately, the more "anti bacterial" cleaning agents and stuff we (as a society) use, the greater an issue these things are becoming.

The more clean we make our lives - the less our bodies learn to deal with germs. The less ready our bodies are, the more infections and such we will get...that's partly why Americans travelling overseas need to be so careful - there are germs over there we no longer have to deal with in our chlorinated, flouridated world.

As George Carlin (the great scientist and immunology specialist LOL) said..."when i was growing up, we swam in the Hudson, sh** all around us. Hell, we weren't afraid of no little f****ng germs!

Yeah, but Chuck Gerba, famed microbiologist, stated that harmful contagions live longer on fomites (surface areas of living space and appliances) than human skin. So, hypothetically, you could catch flu, colds or something else from a fresh specimen of whatever on a table, pole, or crusty dollar bill. It's the problem of germs clinging to your fingers long enough to make it to more vunerable territory (eyes, mouth, etc.)
Ha ha, my mom's crummy housekeeping habits paid off in a way- we have no allergies in my family from growing up with dust, dirt, and and funky food in the fridge. Thanks Ma! For raising me in a Petri Dish!
