    Default Arabic/Oriental Sounding Techno

So I am going to do a bellydancing feature at my stripclub. I have one Turkish and one Arabic pop songs, but am looking for something that sounds like house or trance, or at least uses "arabic chords" which has been mentioned. I also would like to use these for a "harem girl" set in the future. Actual arabic music requires a certain taste and trained ear. I don't want to alienate the customers with tradition or cheesy pop.

What was that song from the 80's..."Egypt, Egypt"?

I have lots of these songs on Mp3, but maybe some of ya'll music pros have some other suggestions...

    Thanks!

Kim Wilde has an Arabic Mix of her cover "Born to be wild". Also try "Living on the ceiling" by Blancmange, and "Ever so lonely", Monsoon.

An Aussie band called Mental as Anything had a song called "Egypt" which was a minor hit in Oz.

Oh yes, I know that song. She did it with Ofra Haza, who was a Yemeni jew singer based out of Israel. She sadly died of AIDS. I have one of her old albums and there is maybe only 2 decent songs on it and lots of oversynthesized crap too...

    Thanks, keep 'em coming!

just search for "arabic+trance" in any file sharing network and you will find pages of it. Some quite good mixes too.

What about Madonna's Shanti/Ashtangi on her ray of light CD? That's a good up-tempo song. Also, if you download Bearshare (free version) it's like kazaa only legal still, I know they have a Whole bunch of bellydancing music. Delerium also has a REALLY good song on their karma CD, it's track # 10. I can't remember the name of the song, but it's an intense song. Hope these help. Good luck with your routine.

All the suggestions are cool. Try a techno track called Opa Opa by Despina Vandi. I seem to remember a Def Leppard track called Turn to Dust from their '96 CD Slang, midtempo and sexy. Both worth a listen

Off the top of my head . . .

Redemption and Pandora by Conjure One
    Inertia Creeps by Massive Attack
    City of Pleasures by Govinda
    and
    Garden of Sakuntala by Amethystium

    Hope that helps!

One of my favorite late 1990s albums is One and One is One by Joi. It's a mix of drum & bass with East Indian/Asian rhythms and instruments.

For a belly-dancing routine, from this album I'd recommend Asian Vibes, Oh My People, Mission, and India (faded in starting from the 45-second mark).

Desert Rose by Sting also should work.

If you like "Egypt Egypt" by Egyptian Lover.. be sure to dance to "I Need a Freak" by him (a cover of a song originally done by Sexual Harrassment.) "D.S.L.s" is pretty suggestive too... aLthough the b-side "I Want Ya" is HOT!

As far as Eastern Techno goes... yeah lots of old trance utilized these sounds... there's also those Buddha Bar CDs filled with ethnic music, althoughh they are more on the chill-out side.

Try some Banco de Gaia. And even some Chris and Cosey (TECNHO PRIMITIV LP, RISE LP, PAGAN TANGO LP) blend of techno/electro and Morrocan Trance music (some Joujouka, although that was Psychic TV's department.)

This sounds pretty neat. Anyone know of a good site where I can listen to cut track or something?

Banco de gaia is one of the most fantastically gifted electronic producer out there. Try "Last Train To Lhasha" it is a masterpiece. Also, try Nitin Sawhney. His album "Beyond Skin" is the last years mercury award winner and has great tracks from chill to hip-hop, and trip-hop and ethnic beat, all with an East Indian twist. fantastic.

Not sure if this would work for you or not, but try Dissidenten's "Sahara Electric"
It came out in the 80's, but you can take a listen and find some used copies on amazon.com

oh, wait, i have the perfect song... its called "lament" and its by gabriel and dresden. there are no words, but there are vocals-- i know my club is iffy about playing songs without words, but can get away with it if there are at least vocals. its awesome and super eastern sounding.
