WHAT IS mac pigment and how do you use it number one?

And what is shading? What tecnique do you follow?

Ive been reading a few beauty books, and i am still unclear on these two questions!!

Okay, i'm going to try and help you answer at least one of your questions.
Think of MAC pigment as a very versatile shadow with staying power. Which are good things, but as you have seen, the pigment is loose and sometimes can be difficult to control without practice. The line of pigments give you the opportunity to layer on shadow thicker than usual, and to achieve stronger and darker eyeshadow looks. However, i've talked to some makeup artists who use them...and they say that even they have difficulty using pigment without mixing it with something first , such as a cream (Clear eye gloss). You can mix them with body lotion to customize shimmery body powder.
Another one of pigment's traits is that it is wet/dry. With a bit of water and a liner brush, you can use it as eyeliner. Like I said before, they're versatile...but difficult to control on their own, a pro tool.
I've used some of mine mixed in with lip gloss...the pearlier shades are great for a browbone highlighter.

Anyway, hope that shed some light for you.

Great response Tiff! Couldn't have said it better myself!

Tiff more or less explained the pigment part....

As for shading and contouring i strongly recommend one of Kevyn Aucoin's make-up books. He was an amazing make-up artist and i LOVE his books ( may he rest in peace )

He gives an illustration on contouring and higlighting in his website.

I love makeup and oh do I have a ton. I am not sure what you mean by shading but I think I can help. Using darker shades on the outside corner (brown, charcoal) of the eye, make it cat like only extend it to the middle of the eyelid and to the crease NOT ABOVE the crease. Then use a lighter shade for the inside corner of the eyes and bring to the middle of the lid. Blend to two colors together and you will have a shadowing effect. I used mac nylon and soot.

I'm addicted to mac pigments. They're easier to work with than the paints.

another tip: you should apply to your eyelid with an eyeshadow brush by PATTING. pat pat pat then you take your blending brush and blend blend blend. You can have sheer color or keep builiding it up for a really intense color.

i got a nice effect by simply applying with my finger as well.
