I know several burners. Most are very good people.
We all imagine ourselves the agents of our destiny, capable of determining our own fate. But have we truly any choice in when we rise, or when we fall, or does a force larger than ourselves bid us our direction. Is it evolution that takes us by the hand, does Science point our way, or is it God who intervenes keeping us safe.

So much struggle for meaning, for purpose. And in the end, we find it only in each other. Our shared experience of the fantastic. And the mundane. The simple human need to find a kindred, to connect. And to know in our hearts... that we are not alone.

I second scorpio. Somebody should organize something else, for less money. $250 a ticket? Go see Dave Matthews instead. Fifty dollar ticket.

dave matthews isnt even in the same universe as burning man. the outddor festivals creat a vibe unlike any other. I prefer all electronic dance music parties where there are several stages and many different generas at once. I have spun at several outdoor parties around the country, in California and toronto, and they were awesome experiances. nothing can compare to playing melodic epic trance as the sun was coming up over the canyons and redwoods as hundreds of people were lost in extatic dance.

I'm going! In fact, there's a SF dancer who's teaching pole dancing classes there (for free, I think), and I'm going to hit her up. I can't wait... outdoor parties are amazingly inspirational for me, and BM is supposed to be the biggest and most amazing there is.

Maybe I'll see some of you there!

My boyfriend went last year and REALLY want's us both to go this year.
He has said it was a wonderful experience.
BUT.....Like everone said it is very expensive to go.
Plus I have 2 pet rabbits and I can't really afford to have them stay at the vet for a week and I can't think of anyone I trust enough to take care of my babies everyday.
Also my rent is due and the stress of making the rent plus getting everything ready for burning man seem's way to stressfull and expensive.
So my predicement is that while I do want to go I don't know if I can afford to plus im afraid me and my BF will fight alot due to this stress.
Plus when he drinks he becomes an ignorant asshole and would walk off and leave me on my own if we were to get in a fight. When he drinks he really does become another person. One I don't like and I hear there is free alcohol everywhere.
But maybe im just worrying over nothing maybe if we go we will get along great and all will be well and it will be an experience of a lifetime.

I don't really know at this point what to do.
Has anyone ever went with there sig. other? How did this work out.Did it bring you closer or did you drive each other crazy?
He really want's to go and so do I but since i have not been before I am not sure what to expect.
From what I hear it sounds amazing but when you are in a relationship things like this can become a nightmare.
    Any advice anyone?
    Thanks
p.s it is the day after his birthday and going would mean alot to him.

I've gone with my girl, and it was a blast, but you both need to be pretty secure in your relationship and trust... it is as wild as it gets sometimes. People party HARD there with no clothes and swapping partners in some areas. Of course, most of burning man is just about having innocent fun, not being too hardcore, so dont get me wrong. There is definately something there for everyone, from the nicest christian who avoids sin, to the dirtyest of the rest of them. Bring earplugs, because there is no such thing as a quiet time, and some parties rage all day and night for days on end. Earplugs will help you sleep through all that. Read up on the eplaya for tips on all the stuff you need to bring, because its not like regular camping. Have fun, and set your boundries ahead of time with your SO, and you should be fine.

Spencer is right on, from what I know... establish the rules of the game before you go - what is okay partying and what's out of line! Then, you should have an amazing time... sure wish I had a Love to bring with!

I am not going but am just outside of the area (Reno) so if anyone needs info on camping supplies or grocery stores or whatnot, PM me. I went in '96 and had a BLAST!!!!! It was smaller then though, obviously.

One thing I will say is, if you are a heat sensitive person, bring valium or at least Calms Forte. The reason for this is that you will be up all night and will need to sleep during the day in the terrible heat. I ended up soooooo tired by the Man burned (too hot to sleep) that I couldn't enjoy myself. You will NOT sleep at night, trust me. If you need info, let me know; I've got the local 411. A lot of the Burners moved to the Reno area to be closer so there is sort of a "scene" here.

(The $250 tier tix are almost sold out so they will be going up soon.. buy now if you are planning to go!)

Love outside music especially good trance DJs this summer we hvae had Armin Van Buuren, Paul Van Dyke and in september Tiesto. All in central park. I havent gotten to them this year but I am going to see Tiesto. Its only like 25 bucks which isnt bad.
