Default Souls?

I haven't decided on plants yet...but I think if humans do have souls, then other animals must, too. Not sure about insects either.

The death discussion here reminded me to do some research on "Past Life memories." Go ahead, laugh, but my theory is that souls exist, maybe they are not easy to understand, but if you can have individual fingerprints, why not a soul? And what about the electrical energy in a body?
There's more to life than what we see.

Interesting. I am also Agnostic....although I do not take the "stupid" approach, nor do I take the "I believe" approach. I really don't know. Hmmmmmmmmmm

I can't understand people who lack spirituality. It must be hard to go through life shrugging your "s[h]oul-ders" at everything. My ex claimed to feel "claustraphobic" when he thought of Death, but didn't want to learn about life or himself to be free of that fear.

My uncle is agnostic, but he even has some supernatural stories that point to other powers at play in our lives. The funniest is the "Keno" story, where he dreamed some Keno numbers to play and went into a casino the next day to gamble. He decided to lunch first, and choked on his food when he heard his winning Keno numbers called over the loudspeaker. Shoulda played first!
Another is when he hear a voice tell him "not today" when he was driving to work & going to make his usual sharp right turn on an exit getting off of the freeway to go to work. He slowed down on the exit, thinking someone broke into the car and slept in the backseat. He missed getting hit by a car running the light where he would have been had he not slowed down to look for the mystery voice. There was no one there.
I might not be able to un-skeptify agnostics and atheists, but I think it's just as ignorant to refuse to believe in difficult to prove things, once you've been shown something impossible to explain.

Mad Max, just because a person is Agnostic, does not believe that do not believe in anything. Agnostic is nothing like being a niliest(sp). They believe in nothing.
Atheists do not believe in God, and Agnostics believe that there is something out there, but they don't know what.

I didn't check anything but I think that there are souls and they are reuseable (LOL, I know) but more like a reincarnation thing. So in that aspect yes, a rock can have a soul but only if you needed to learn patience in your last life. And by being a rock for 10,000 years you learn it then. But yes souls are real and I have to believe that just from the stuff I have seen before.

Yup, that's me. If you can't explain something, you have 2 choices. Don't believe it, or take a leap of faith and believe a meaning that you have created for your own psychological purposes. I simply choose the former. Its not so difficult after all now is it?

Uhhhhh, no. Agnosticism means "I don't know." (Ag means without, Gnosos means 'knowledge&#039 It does not imply any knowledge of any kind. What you are talking about is Gnosticism, meaning "WITH-knowledge" ("They know something is out there).

Maxie~

Whole point it that i need more than someone's word on this stuff. But more than this stuff, a lot more.

A lot of people see U.F.O.'s for instance, and i believe them. UNIDENTIFIED flying object means they saw something in the sky and had no clue what it was. It is, however a LONG jump from UNIDENTIFIED to 'Alien Spacecraft.' If these folk expect me to believe they saw ET phoning home, they'll need to show me something that can't be picked apart. I.E. 'Evidence.'

It works the same way for Ghosts, ESP, Auras, you-name-it. Believe in it all you want, just don't expect me to believe in it just because others do.

I believe in souls....an energy form that is able to percieve another reality/dimension after death. It has a consciousness all its own....it's part person/people it was and more enhanced, let's say. I think I believe in reincarnation too, but am not settled on the mechanics of it, or lack thereof (but I do think that people only reincarnate as people). I think animals have souls too...I agree with Rhiannon that rocks have an "aura." And thought forms existing too.

Phwew...ok enough new age rambling for me . Oh...I don't believe in hell. No souls in something out of Dante's Inferno...unless you count our SW poll.

I subscribe to the native American beliefe that everything is connected to the creator, the spirit-that-moves-through -all-things, therefore, everything is alive, has a souls, and has something to teach and deserves respect. Everything, from our plant and rock brothers, to the crawling people, the water spitit, the air, animals, all is life!

I think people, animals, and plants have souls. I dunno, it may sound weird to you guys but when I'm walking through a forest I feel like I'm not alone. Like some of the plants and trees are aware. I'm undecided about insects, maybe!

I don't think god exists as the bible descibes "him". First of all, why would god need or want a sex? I think god is either both male or female or neither. I think god is a lifeform made of energy. I don't think god created the universe, but that god's a traveler who found an inhabitable planet. Then god used all it's strength and energy to bring life to earth and begin the cycle of life and death. It's like god expelled all it's energy to create us, and our souls are a piece of god. So essentialy we are all god, it's light, dark, and grey. And that's why god's never around to answer prayers or talk to us. Altho I think that if many people get together and concentrate on one thing (ie praying or the like) that they can somehow combine their energy to possibly make something happen, like a miricle or spell. When we die we go to "heaven" or the shell of god. We're recycled souls. With each life experienced god learns and sends you back into another body to learn more. I think that when we're all killed at once (like a meteor) then we will all return to god's shell and be complete. So that god will once again travel and find another planet to start again.

This all probably sounds crazy, but I think all religion is since it's all speculation anyway. =)

I believe that only humans have souls. I feel that is what makes us different than every other living thing. I also feel our soul gets "killed" by doing things we know we shouldn't and by eating animals becasue I feel we take in their pain and death when we eat them. I also feel that oxygen "feeds" our soul and contains the living energy to fuel it. That is why I am a firm believer that fruit is the ideal food for man as fruit is the only food that contains living water, or life energy. I notice that when I consume fruit exclusively for any long period of time I become very caring about my body, others, the earth, the environment, ect. I also notice that my skin raidates and I cannot get ill, my body feels non-existant (no pains or discomfort) no body odor or bad breath, unlimited energy, immunity to sunburn, i get smarter, i get happier, ect.

Many people say that women "glow" during pregnancy. I believe that that is due to the powerful soul from the baby inside. As soon as the child is conceived the soul is born. Even people who work around children can have this glow as well. This is becasue we "steal" part of the soul from the people we are around, and young children have extremely powerful souls. Due to a combination of bad diet, and wrong actions, childrens souls begin to lessen. It is common knowledge that young children are not scared of anyhting and have amazing self-confidence. This is becasue of a powerful soul. They are quick to make friends and go right up to anyone that they don't know and make their presence known. Humans through society and fear lose much if not all of this. If a child is nurtured and frd properly, their soul can remain very strong throughout their lives. We are automatically very drawn to these people and want to spend our time with them. They are as close to divine beings as we will come across in this society. People who meet this criteria are people such as the Dhali Llama, and many mystics from eastern countries, namely India and Tibet.

Of course, Ryan....because we are the highest life form possible, and clearly nothing else could have souls. And women "glowing" couldn't POSSIBLY have anything to do with a change in chemical balances within the body. Because that would be silly. It is much more reasonable for it to be caused by a soul.

Difficult question... My beliefs are much like the “einsteinesque view, everything has energy, and once that living thing passes away, then the energy ceases to exist in that body, or vessel if that’s what you want to call it. Energy, as we know, can not be destroyed or removed from the universe, so that energy, or life force, must go elsewhere. Does this constitute a soul, or a conscious being after death? I don't know.

I hopefully have a few years to determine my beliefs on this matter

I dont know how people dont think animals have souls. Have you stared at a dog who looks back at you and almost looks like its smiling? Or have it lick your face? How can an animal, who has feelings, not have a soul?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but this is something I believe. My dogs have souls.
