Default Lap Dance specials...and their impact

okay, so how many times has this happened to you?

I was at work on Friday, and it was PACKED! 41 girls, and a SHITLOAD of customers. I only got to go onstage once that night, but it sucked and here's why:

Every once and a while the dj announces there are "LD specials" like: buy one get one free, or 1/2 off when you buy 3 *15.00 for two, the third free* anyway, I was so excited, because in a packed house, a stage show can bring you an upwards of 50.00! When they finally got around to me in the rotation the dj annouces a 1/2 off special for the next songs. WTF?! And you bet that almost EVERY guy took advantage of the deal! So I'm like: great, take away my audience, THEN put me onstage...GREAT! I only made 15.00 off that stage set, and the room had been practically CLEARED out! By the time the NEXT girl got done though, they were all back, and tipping like crazy again. I felt jipped out of my ONE s2pid stage show.

*sigh* no, I didn't do anything to piss the dj off either. Maybe just bad timing. oh, well.

The dance special wasn't handled properly.

In most clubs EVERY dancer participates in the special and the girls who don't sell it go on stage or the stage is shut down while the 2/1 or dollar dances are going on.

I would tell your DJ next time with a tip in hand above what you normally give him what I just said.

I would go to the mgr and tell him to pull his head outta his (_!_) and look how all the other clubs are doing their 2-1's.It really doesnt sound like its the dj's fault.
with 40 dancers leaving the room, thgats 80 people all of the sudden GONE from the room, and its the people who are spending money! Most clubs would notice 80 people gone from the room.
2-1's are a really good tool to liven up a room, get guys to unass their wallets, put promo stuff in customers hands etc.Its not supposed to crush the person who has to hold down the room till the big spenders get back!

I agree with you here BigGreen...this is a great time to use dance specials. One club I worked at did them innappropriately ...when the guys were buying full priced dances no less. But once they heard specials were to be had, they stopped buying dances. And waited for the special...even if it meant no one getting dances for three hours. Hehe...we girls hated that!

Most places I've worked, the 2/1's are so routine that when you ask someone if they'd like a dance, they say they'll wait for the special.
Everywhere I've worked only required the girls that didn't sell to get on stage for the next two songs. Several places required all the girls that didn't sell to get on a stage.

Yeah, almost the same thing happened to me. It was like a month after I had just started dancing and I was having a TERRIBLE night, anyway, right when I was going up on stage they announced that in three songs there was a 2 for 1 and everyone needs to "get their partners." I had no idea what they were talking about, because I didn't know that they did specials. Well, I danced my stage set (after a couple guys got up to get their "special lady") and I asked a couple people if they wanted to go back there. Everyone said no. So while they did a stage break I sat in the fucking dressing room while everyone else was back doing lapdances.

The girls later told me that the manager had told most of them about it and had "forgot" to tell me. They also informed me that the two guys I asked for dances haven't ever gotten one in the year or so that they had been going there.

    ugh. i was so pissed.

But I think you should really talk to the manager about NO ONE being onstage during the specials. It would actually bring more out of the guys, maybe even the ones that usually want a free show. If EVERYONE (82 people) is having a good time in the back and they're left out with nothing to even look at than they'll feel somewhat stupid and they'll realize that to spend time with a beautiful lady they have to pay. If they don't buy a regular dance immediately it ups the odds of them buying a discount dance. And Voila. You've upped your clientile.

That's what I think I'll do. 'cause it didn't seem "handled right" to me either. I wanted to pull a customer back for the 2-1's like you guys were saying, but he'd said my name before I could even think: wait wtf? Why do I have to be onstage when all the customers LEAVE to the back room?! dammit.

Aww, I'm sorry, Playboy. I hope you were able to get more dances after your set to make up for the lousy stage tips.
If it makes you feel any better, a similar thing happened to me on Saturday. I normally work dayshift, and all lap dances are 2 for 1 during that time, which kinda sucks, but we deal with it. Well, I stayed and worked night shift, too. Normally, the DJ does 2 for 1 specials every hour, which involves us all going up onstage for a cattle call, then wandering around trying to find a guy.
However, last Saturday was the DJ's birthday and he decided he was going to get the club to get 400 lap dances on his shift- so he was doing cattle calls every 20-30 minutes!!! So I'd approach a guy, flirt, hustle, get him to agree to a dance, take him to the private dance area, and then just as I was about to get started, the damn cattle call song would start and I'd have to go onstage, stand there all pissed, and then go back to my guy and give him a 2 for 1. I was so annoyed by the end of the night- I already give 2 for 1's all day long, I didn't want to give so darn many at night, too!
Heh, sorry, that turned into a rant of my own. Anyway, it was probably just bad timing on the DJ's part in your case. But I like Tina's suggestion of shutting down the stage or putting a dancer on who didn't sell a dance.

it's cool. I still had an "average" night that night. (500) so NBD.

That's the way all the strip clubs I used to go to did it. They'd have ALL the girls prance around onstage for about 2 minutes, then go round up some guys, and they'd choose a girl who DIDN'T get any dances for the next stage set.

I'm gonna ask Dino (the owner) about that...

    lol
    the loser dance!!!!

Thats what the girls call it who dont sell a 2-1.
All the girls try to sell them, the ones that dont go up on stage during the 2-1.

If we sell out all the girls, the waitresses or the bartender get up on stage.NEVER leave the stage open during the night. If you have 40 girls and 200 customers,I would hate to think of what will happen to the 160 guys left in an empty room.
They leave and go down the street to the comp.

The occasional Dance Special can be very useful in getting the guys to start buying dances (and once they are back there in VIP they so often will get more), liven up the club by bringing all the girls onstage, and change the pace from the standard, possibly monotonous routine. Thats the positive side.

    However...

You get these clubs like the infamous Deja Vu, whicvh run the damned specials every half-hour, all night long--and most of the guys will hold out for the 2-for-1. Which means, if you are in a high-contact area, that these schmucks (no offense to the generous gentlemen SW members out there) are getting their dicks rubbed and you are getting 7 dollars for it. That is wrong, wrong, wrong!

Furthermore, there is a sizeable proportion of customers (such as myself, before I started DJing), who detest being hustled by every dancer in the club every half hour, because the manager wants to sell more T-shirts. The manager usually gets a cut, and sometimes the DJ, of these infernal T-Shirts. In one club I got a dollar a shirt, but still resisted doing the damned specials.

I cannot count the times I have pumped a crowd up to fever pitch with the stage show, lined the rail with enthusiastic tippers waiting with baited breath for the next girl to come out--only to have it ruined utterly by the geek manager who saw only a chance to sell more shirts, so he could buy more coke. No girls onstage, the lame club theme t-shirt song that has been played 12 times a night, every customer hassled by all the girls for T-shirts they don't want--it kills the mood.

Putting all the girls onstage who haven't sold a dance is a very poor solution to the problem--they are usually pissed off or at least disappointed, it is impossible to tailor the music to their needs as there are usually more than 2-3 of them. The only thing that will save the situation is to get a girl up there by prior agreement, who just really likes to dance, or maybe the waitress (all the guys always want to see them dance but rarely ever get to). Then you can keep the momentum, or even build on it if you are lucky.

So I have to start all over about 10 minutes later with noone at the rail, no attention focused onstage--and in some clubs this happens 7-8 times a night, or more if it is packed. Maybe a lame DJ who needs 10 specials a night to liven the place up likes this, but noone else I know does--except the short-sighted managers and the cheap customers.

At my club when we have LD specials the DJ calls all the girls onstage at once and the guys then proceed to "pick" a girl.... no dancer is doing a set during LD specials. Sounds like you just happened to have unlucky timing....

yup. Again, I want to bring this up to Dino (the owner) in a nice way. Like: "Dino, I been thinking about somehting that happen to me last week, and *how do I say this w/o sounding like I'm trying to tell you how to run your club* maybe... there's a better way we can feature LD specials..." yada yada yada. hmmm...

Maybe try telling him that when you sell a 2-1,the club makes money and when you dance on stage, only you make immediate money.
Suggest to him how most clubs that do 2-1's are doing them and i would even ask him why he does them his way??

Im just guessing that he doesnt want an empty stage during the 2-1.
do you have clubs in your area that do them differently then you guys do??Maybe take him out for a beer and a 2-1 and let him see it work first hand.

I dont really care for the LD specials at the SC that I most frequent. They offer 3 Dances for $25.00. With that you can also get a Club T-Shirt or a Raunchy Porn DVD. Sometimes you could get Towel with the Club Logo on the towel. Well with the T-Shirts, I would be too embarrased to wear it in public as it features a Bunny getting a Lap Dance from a very voluptous animated Woman. The Porn DVD's are crappy. The towels i could use as a Car Wash Rag. When I get a T-Shirt, I give it to the homeless guy at the nearest intersection.

Anyway, The LD Specials are $25, the Dancer has to give the Club $10 of that amount. So she gets $15 for the 3 dances. Then the Dances are only 1/2 of the normal dance time if not less. As a Customer, I find that the LD Specials ar no more value then just the regular LD. I also do not like the idea of the Dancer having to pay out $10 for the LD Specials. I sometimes feel forced to take the LD Specials only because the SC pushes them so much. It is also the only way to get all the Dancers out of the Womens Lounge and into the Club floor to see who is actually working at the time.

I guess the LD specials have benefits and drawbacks as well.

Stage is good advertisement for getting dances!

Yesterday I asked someone for a dance and he said "No, not ready." I smiled and told him I'll check back later. Well, I went on stage acting all happy/goofy and that same guy saw me and changed his mind and we ended up in the champagne room.
