see YOUR DERMENTOLOGIST NOW! ACNE can lead to permanent scars!!
accutane may help.

I tried the dermatologist and accutane... I lasted about 4 days the side effects where too strong for me.... and cos I am in Canada and away from home it cost me alot of money.
I was hoping for a more 'natural' approach.

PLS pls go to www.curezone.com and read up ( i e. articles, forums etc )as much as you can... and then do a FULL body detox when i say full body i mean THE COLON CLEANSE, PARASITE CLEANSE, KIDNEY FLUSH & LIVER AND GALL BLADDER CLEANSE in this EXACT order! everything that you need to know is on that site. To treat acne you need to start with the inside.
When you get to the home page of the site.... click on ACNE in the "Ailments & Disorders" section. Also type acne into search and read up the posts and stories left from other members in the forum.
Seraya.
this has helped curb some of it for me - go to the pharmacy section at walmart or zellers, try this product: PanOxyl aquagel 5 or you can try Benzac W 5
Both are topical lotions (comes in cream or gel I chose gel as not to aggravate the oil ducts with more oil product)
They have Benzoyl peroxide USP 5%
Its a little drying but it has really kept breakouts to a minimum.
Other methods: yogi's swear by urine, mid stream morning urine (pee a bit then pee on a cotton pad) wipe face as u would a toner - I have had this remedy thrown at me from a million sources, have yet to oblige it though...
Witch Hazel as an astringent after cleaning helps for milder cases.
So does apple cider vinegar, as an astringent after cleansing. Apparently restores ph balance to skin.
And lastly? Water water water.

My younger sister has had great sucess with the Proactiv line of skin care. She has seen drastic improvements in her skin and the whole kit is less than one dermatologist visit she said. Might be worth looking into.![]()
proactiv seems to be making my skin worse :*(!!!
my skin, like yours krys, has been fine for me on the overall..until just recently i started breaking out crazy. i am only about a week and a half into proactiv though
and also, some things you might not think about may be causing it or adding to it. it depends on where you get yours. i know one thing for sure is that stress causes acne, so if thats you..start taking measures to chill out.
i am getting mine on pretty much my cheeks only, so i have started to try and sleep on my back (not on my side with my face to the pillow) it may help. (though really its just stressing me out cause its hard for me to sleep like that. lose/lose ahhh!) i'm not a big phone talker but make sure you are keeping your face from leaning on your reciever, if you get your forehead it may be your hair products sweating down onto your face. soo, things like that. yep.
boy i sure do seem like i have clear skin right? arg.
i am an acne success story- oh i had it so bad for YEARS i tried Murad, it made it so so bad, i tried everything!!!
then i bought the neutrogena clear pore cleanser/mask. i will never ever use anything again. my skin is perfectly clear, i cant believe it. i really cant sometimes i look at my face and i am like wow. i was so shy and embarrassed, and now i have complete control over my skin and i have been free of worry.
i just wash in the morning with it, and then at night, and wear it as a mask on my problem spots over night. i have pretty normal skin, not very oily and i was scared this much use would dry me out, but i have never gotten dry skin. i was very surprised. i read some stuff people wrote about it drying them out, so just be careful at first to see how your skin reacts. whatever you do, dont wash your eyes with it, to get makeup off. it is not meant for that. and it bleaches, because it has benzoyl peroxide.
i swear try it. it has changed my life i am wearing it right now.
let me know if you have any questions!!!!!
I agree with Leigh, water. I reluctantly started drinking bottled water, seemed so wrong when you have a tap but it makes me remember how much to drink and I also carry one when I'm out.
I also started using Healthy Skin, anti wrinkle, anti blemish cleanser by Neutrogena 1 yr ago. Now after (cough, cough )years, I'm finally blemish free.
Maybe helped, but I don't think so is that I became a vegatarian 2 yrs ago. Any way cheaper options that are readily available and no big cash outlay.
Store bought acne cleansers never worked for me, dried me out, made it worse. I've been using Pro Active Solution for about 3 years and it's really helped with my former severe acne. My skin was really bad and I had tried seeing a doctor but nothing seemed to help that he gave me. I begged my mom to get me pro active but I had to wait a couple years until I had a job myself to try it. It really did start clearing up my face in as little as one week! My all over redness and irritation was gone in two weeks! I still get break outs but it's NOTHING compared to what it used to be! It's been my godsend. I've heard a lot of forum success stories and of only two people that it didn't work for.

I've had very good success with a few things:
1. Salicylic acid. Twice a day. Get a salicylic acid cleanser and let it sit on your face for 10 minutes before wahing it off- you should feel a bit of dead skin rubbing off too. Acne is caused (in part) by keratin/sebum plugs...chemical exfoliation doesn't give the keratin time to mix with the sebum and cause a plug.
2. Tanning. It's bad, but it works. Not too much, but just like 15 minutes of daytime sun on your face a day...it's a natural antibacterial.
3. Try cutting out sugar/gluten. I have an intolerance to gluten, and found that my acne went from moderate cystic to high school-type no-big-deal pimples within a few months of cutting out all sugar and gluten (all lectins, actually- do a search. Basically, sugar, grains except brown rice, beans, some tropical fruits and nightshade-family vegetables should be avoided). This is pretty closely linked to the blood-type diet.
The diet thing is controversial, but I'm a believer after the results I've seen. Plus, I had a sugary dessert for the first time in years about 2 weeks ago (actually lots- I fell off the wagon big time for about a day!), and besides getting awfully sick and lethargic the next day, I now have two cysts, and I haven't had one for years.
If you're not into the diet thing though, the sun and a chemical exfoliant (salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid...whatever) should help within a few weeks.

damn I hear ya on that cystic acne, ARGH!!!
I dropped potatoes and bread out of my diet yrs ago - bread well just have no taste for it anyway and its a carb I really dont need, the potoatoes are a nightshade veg, and although I love em I dropped em.
But the acne persists, and I have scarred from it - the older you get the more you scar from acne or anything else your natural collegen levels recede with age and this is a primary factor in NOT scarring, so amp up the anti oxidants and especially vitamin C it is a precursor in the formulation of collegen. Smoking also contributes to acne, as it constricts the blood flow to the outer outer skin layers leaving it malnourished and prone.
Blah blah blah...
The 2 products I mentioned have the same active indredient as the PROACTIVE stuff on TV...except considerably more affordable and ya dont gotta wait for it in the mail.
Tanning does help but its so hard on aging - what a dilemma clear old skin or pimply young skin LOL - but I agree it helps and I use it too....especially clears up back or shoulder breakouts amazingly.
I use the body washes with the salycic acid and it HELPS ALOT.
I wash with either that same body wash or anti bacterial liquid soap from Melalueca
Such a shame cuz I love all the frou frou products to wash with that so many cosmetic lines have out - but in the long run my simplified cleansing routines work best.

I have never had acne problems (and I hope I'm not just a late bloomer!!) But I do use these things that keep my skin perfect:
Tea tree oil face wash (Body Shop) - pretty cheap and effective.
Neutragena Skin Clearing Makeup (foundation) - I have found that on the days that I don't wear it, I get a few clogged pores.
Because there ain't no tits on the radio
strangely enough wearing makeup stopped my breakouts but now that I only wear it to go out I break out more - it was almost as though the application of the stay-on foundations out there on my just cleansed face protected my pores and minimized breakouts! weird eh?
oh ya and I never had acne til WAAAAAAAAAAAAY later in life, I had blemish free skin - now I am plagued with adult acne.
grumble.

MSM lotion works really good....

Thanks for all your help guys....
I actually ordered Proactive a few nights ago and can't wait till it arrives. (apparently it can get worse before it gets better so fear not rievenge).
MSM internally is also good for scarring and collegen production in the body (skin repair aswell as muscle repair) so you might want to give that ago Leigh.
I have also read that vitamins A C E and zinc are helpful... so I am going to dose up on them and try the proactive (as its already been ordered otherwise I would of tried the netrogena thanks faithfuldaisy). Also evening primrose oils or Borage oils for the GLA.
I already have a healthy diet and have done some cleansing over the years (thanks for the site though Seraya will check it out).
Genetics plays a big role too.... all my family has suffered with it... guess I thought I would of grown out of it by now!
As for tanning.... I used to do the sunbeds for it, sometimes it helps sometimes it doesn't, I have heard mixed reviews about it and have actually heard that it can darken the scarring and make it worse?
I was going to try the MSM lotion Ryan but the lady at the health food store gave me a really weird look when I mentioned it... kinda put me off, should always listen to myself though right.
Has anyone tried the near stays clean make range from Almay? Its designed for blemished skin and contains Salicylic acid.
Thanks again guys, its nice to know I am not in this battle alone.
xo
you can just call me rie ;P
and god i hope so..this really really stinks![]()

You need to to get enough sleep, & make sure you drink lots of water. That really helps alot.
I take 50 mg of zinc a day, and that helps quite a bit. Take it with food though, or it can upset your stomach!

Currently I am trying Murads acne complex. So far I'm hateing it. I'll give it another week, but I think I'll be going back to my old favorites (Clean & Clear skin clearind face wash, and tea tree oil moisturizer from body shop).
Those worked really well. I had almost no breakouts for about a year, but I did have a ton of blackheads. Thats why I started searching again.

Figured Ryan would point this out but he didn't so I will.
Some Australian researchers accidentally figured out that a great deal of acne is directly related to the intake of grain products. The latent yeasts feed the bacteria that form acne.
I thought it was a joke. But in my raw journey, I stopped eating pasta and bread and voila! No more acne--and I had it pretty bad in my early twenties.
Yet another ringing endorsement for the raw lifestyle. Remember, acne happens from the inside, not the outside.

Yeah, that's kind of what I meant to point out when I advised against eating gluten (because it is the gluten/lectins that are thought to cause acne).Figured Ryan would point this out but he didn't so I will.

A lot of acne I heard is, excersize i recall in high school where i had a friend who started working out regularly, getting his heart rate up everyday and it disappeared.
He hits the low single, over extends, recovers and picks up the leg, switches to a double and he has it and DUMPS his opponent!
