Default so what else do you do?

I've been dancing full time for 3 years now so there really isn't too much change to talk about in my life. So when a customer asks if this is all I do and I say yeah I feel like a loser because I've been dancing for so long and I have nothing else like school or another job to talk about. I was wondering how many women lie about having other jobs or make up stuff just to create conversation? I'm not good at lying or even bullshitting, I've always just been myself and told the truth about what's going on with my life. Would saying I'm a student or that I have some other career or goal help make me more interesting to a customer? Do they spend more because they feel like they're contributing to a cause instead of just supporting a stripper?

Honestly, most of them won't take their eyes off your breasts long enough to really care. That stuff is usually just small talk. What will make you money is a smile and some charm, guys won't believe you if you say you are going to school or something anyway. I dunno why, but they usually don't. Even when it's true.

I train horses as my other job. And I rescue horses and ponies (and every other half starved creature that crosses my path) from abuse and slaughter. All of my "kids" would be cans of Ol' Roy or on some Frenchman's plate by now if I hadn't brought them home. So when I'm not at the club, I'm here spending all the money I made the night before to take care of my petting zoo/retirement home for unwanted ex-racehorses, lol.
My breasts have a career, I'm just tagging along

    I use fairy tales sometimes...

What do you do when your not here?
Sit in an abandoned castle waiting for prince charming to rescue me.

What would it take to get with you?
Um, you'd hafta slay a dragon and retreive a golden apple.

    Funny, Lena.

If the guy isn't buying a dance and just trying to chit chat, I say that I raise rabbits and lizards in my spare time.

LTNGRL9 - you can always say, very positively, &#039ancing is my full time job!' I used to say that, but my schedule is so irratic that I can't get away with that now .

Good point - there are some customers (but few of them, so don't stress on it) that do want to know there's a little more going on with you. And if they are big spenders, I'll open up a little.

I'm sure there is a hobby or something you are truly interested in. Why not pick something and go with it. Who knows, by talking about it, you might find yourself actually making it a real hobby....having other interests outside of work is good for everyone anyways.

    ps Great picture of you!

I tell guys that I'm taking some time off from school but I'm going back. This is true, I just don't know when I'm going back. I can then talk to them about their college experience and compare it to mine. I can babble on and on about math, so if they REALLY want to talk about my other life I can hold up the conversation for a bit. I'm also planning on getting a snake and possibly after a while breeding them. It makes for really interesting conversations and often they think I'm somewhat more exotic.

You can always tell them you're saving up money to start your own business.... whatever you're interested in, I'm sure there's a business for it!

    hope this helps!

(Oh about guys wanting to contribute to something else--I actually had one guy offer $500 towards me going back to school.... if only I didn't owe so much more than that!)

LTNGRL9.. I'm in the same boat as you are.. I'm going onto 3 years of dancing now and have only done one or two small courses at the local TAFE (like a community/tech college in the states) in that time.

I usually end with saying "Why would I want to do anything else? I like my job". Usually a potential customer (punter) is more interested that you enjoy your work than if this is all that you do.

Besides, the ones that are actually concerned that this is all you do.. they are definately in the minority. As has been said already, it is just small talk.

"Eat and sleep" is my quick answer. If it's a slow night I might start listing my hobbies and interests - I've got heaps!
Maybe you could take something up or just exagerate something you do already like drawing or music or exersize or shopping or something? Or you could start collecting something. Pick something easy that isn't time consuming. - I collect telephones, I have about 80 and can crap on about each one individually if need be. I decided to learn Palmistry a couple of years ago, I practice on customers. That's always good for conversation.

I tell them, "this IS my job".

I also add that I already have my degree, just working in a job that I happen to have schedule flexibility AND still make a good wage.

Don't be ashamed of what you are.

Yeah, it's a weird job, but it's still a JOB.

I work full time during the day as a secretary at a real estate firm. So I only work 1 maybe 2 nights a week.

We are young and beautiful for only so long; one day our butts and boobs will fall and at that point youre no longer sexy and exciting . Im afraid to become that woman..(Ive seen a few who have several grandchildren and it shows). so I keep a day job and try to advance my career during the day.

No, youre definitely not a loser, you can always invest your money and retire early!!!you should talk to a good financial advisor and they will tell you ways to invest your money so that you can retire when youre 40 if you want.

Well, you are in the entertainment business so here are a couple of ideas to get attention when you are getting the conversation going.

Go to the local magic store and buy a couple of tricks. These are very easy to do and get definitely get their attention.

    1. There is a fake thumb that you buy with a silk scarf. Basically the silk scarf appears and disappears inside the thumb. Believe it or not, people will watch this forever and never figure it out. With a worn bill, you can make it disappear also... ha ha.

    2. Pick up a couple of other disappearing things and on slow nights, you can get better and better.

    3. I always ask dancers what their favorite joke is. It never amazes me how little sense of humor some of them have. A good comedian will engage the audience and get them focused. This is what you need to do. Learn at least 20 different jokes and rehearse them. Men always like jokes particularly when you can spoof one of their friends or them.

Lol, that's hilarious Sitri! I agree - a little humour goes a long, long way! I dunno about loosing fingers in a strip club though, lol!
I'm terrible at remembering jokes, but I know heaps of funny and bizarre stories from reading stuff like the alternate book of records, wierd science, tall tiny tales of terror, wierd inventions, etc and also from good old life experience.

OOPS.. forgot all of the finger implications. If you use it, make sure you do the nail to match yours...

If I get down under, I will look you up for strange and wonderous tales.

Dancers must have great stories to tell about thier adventures while working. I think you have something more entertaining to talk about than most people. Try going to a party and telling entertaining storiesa about the adventerous career as a general manager of a financial comany. Believe me you have no idea how big of a hit it is at parties talking about the current interest rates and such. ( feel the sarcasm)
