Default The Tao of Dogs (The sound of one hound barking)

To the Dog owners, lets share some of the stories we have about our little buddies!

For instance, mine, enter my house without being let in by me, and you take your life into your own hands. These dogs are SOOOOOOOOOOOO nice, but they are also VERY territorial. They leave it up to me to decide who is cool and who isn't.

I pity the burglar. Lemme tell ya.

I'm sure you've heard me mention I work with a greyhound adoption here in Vegas. We have three. Tyler, Kiko, and our newest, Riza. Here's a photo of the three:

Tyler was our first (upper left) and he was a champion racing dog. We got him after he aged past the legal mandatory retirement age for greyhounds (5 years of age) and he's 7 now. He never had a puppyhood being a racing dog for so long so it took him a long time to come out of his shell. Now that he has, he's a big goofball. He's extremely affectionate and VERY smart.
although none of our dogs are very Alpha/dominant, Tyler is kind of the leader of the pack. He doesn't run much any more but when he does, it's poetry in motion. Even though he hasn't raced in a few years, he's still fast as hell. Just four months ago at a dog event here in Vegas, the police department were radar gunning dogs running if you wanted them to for fun. Tyler was the fastest one there topping off at 42 MPH.

Kiko (top left) is our class clown. He didn't race long and was retired at 2. A family adopted him and we had to take him out of their home last year because their son was mistreating him. We took him in soon thereafter and he's been the best dog ever. He's so goofy. He's not the brightest bulb on the tree, but he makes up for it in his silly personality. He's six now, and he's still a big puppy. Get him in an open area and he loves to run and run and run. He actually will get other dogs at the dog park to chase him so he can leave them in his dust. It's a riot.

Reza is our newest. She's just came off the track eight weeks ago and probably didn't race long. We don't have any racing history on her which is publicly available on any greyhound provided you have certain information. Every greyhound has a real name and a racing name. Their racing name is never taught to them and is only used during races so that people don't call their real name and distract them. We don't know Reza's racing name, but if we did, we could pull up her racing history on the Internet. Anyway, she's very puppyish and loves to play with all the toys we bought the two boys that they never used. Our house now looks like a todler lives here with us. In spite of her amazing beauty, she's really a tomboy. She's a handful sometimes and a 50 pound lap dog.

So these are our three kids. I think we've reached our personal limit.

Sometimes I appreciate animals more than humans - they don't care about politics or money and always are happy to see you!
I couldn't agree more. No matter how challenging my day has been, there is nothing that cheers me up more than watching my dogs jump up and down happy to see me at the door.
