Default The paper said Independent Contracter but...

Friday was my first day at a new club, its much larger, much nicer, and I enjoyed it. But after a week of sitting on my ass and not bein gin 5" stelletos I was very tired by about 11:00. I got there at 3:45 so I could be ready at opening and it was explained to me that you have to work six hour shifts. So instead of waiting for my bf to pick me up at 1:30-2:00 I asked the house mom if she would take me home at 12:00 (it's right on her way) so I tipped everyone out and told the manager and he said "no." HUH? "We don't have enough girls. I'm sorry but you can't leave."

I had to stay 'till close, which is 2:30. I understand that we only had 10 girls or so, but to make someone stay past their shift just seems a little extreme. Especially since I told him the house mom was my ride. He said he'd find me a ride, but he didn't. My boyfriend eventually called the club to find out where I was, and came when they told him too--after close.

I mean, what's the point of working the slow times if you have to stay just as long as every other girl?

Let me ask you this Voodoo. How is the business between 12 and 2:30?

I've worked many a 4-2 shift and find that in lots of clubs that's when you can sell more dances (with some exceptions).

Do you see this club as a chore or as a place where you can hustle well?

Do you approach every guy in there, chit chat for a song or so and see if you can sell dances to them before you decide to leave?

I usually will only leave a club earlier than closing if I have that option if I can't sell anyone and no fresh meat is coming through the door.

Yeah, business was good, and there was fresh meat coming through the door, I just wasn't prepared to stay the whole night my first day there. How useful am I if I feel like dead weight? The place is nice and everything, but I don't like them telling me one thing before my shift and another thing when I'm ready to go home. If I'm an Independent Contractor (like the paper I signed said) then how can they just flat out tell me "no" I can't leave.

You will find out that the phrase "independent contractor" is just a phrase and means nothing in terms of an advantage to you. It just means the club does not have to pay unemployment insurance, workmans compensation, social security, and offer a group health plan, and further it doesn't have to keep auditable records, so lots of money flows under their table. Not yours.

You might say, "What? You say the club takes advantage of us? That isn't right or fair."

I say, "wake up and smell the coffee." Or is it the overflowed toilet?

Want to do something about it?
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

sorry 'bout your club troubles but unfortunately welcome to the real world...we are independent contracters but more often than not we are treated exactly as employees or worse without benefits...and sadly it is not worthwhile to try to change it...try to bear it out if money is good or check out other clubs in area that may be more flexible(ie allow freelancers in addition to house girls)....hopefully after you've been there awhile and they get to know you they will be a little more flexible with you...one final thought though if ever they begin treating you so horrible or make your work life miserable...you may need to just stand up for yourself(in self composed reasonable manner) worse case they fire you....they obviously need girls so even if they do it wont last---- or you may need to just move on, you dont need to work in place that treats you less than human.there are always other clubs out there that do take care of the girls ...too often i've seen new girls sell their souls or take every abuse from management b/c they do know there always other options and that WE ARE VALUABLE.

I would not have stood for that - there is no reason for you to have to endager your job standing by leaving. What if you were sick? You should be expected to make part of or all of tip out and then leave for the time spent there. I left sick once after an hour and was told not to worry about the pay out. Basically, you should stand up for yourself tactfully, and if the worst thing they do is fire you, you know you shouldn't be there anyway. Find a club where they at least give you respect; you shouldn't dread going into work and you should know how long you're there is by choice.
...and the day came, when the risk it took to remain closed in a bud became worse than the risk it took to blossom.

It hasn't happened again and the manager that told me "no" has since been fired. I don't mind staying past my shift because more often then not it benefits me, but if they every tell me not to leave when my shift is done and I need to leave I'm packing for good.
