    Default make your own pole:)

I'd looked into buying a pole online. Seeing as how those are $200 and up, I went to Lowe's. I bought a medium width 8 ft pole, which was about my only choice I took it home and put in in a plastic bucket filled with quick dry cement. I then buried the bucket and put more cement on top of that. I now have a perfectly good pole to practice on in the privacy of my backyard and it only cost about $20. I was also thinking of buying a large piece of kitchen floor, cutting a hole in the middle and sliding it over my pole. Then I would have a little dance floor too

That is such an awesome idea! I wish I had a backyard to put one in What is your pole made out of? Would it work indoors? I always practice on the pole at the park, but its all skinny and has a weird grip on it...plus they put it too close to the slided so I bang into it when I spin. Have fun!

Thats a great idea! I've been looking to get a pole installed for ages - I kow heaps of tradesmen who have promised to do this for me, but it never eventuates; they usually get too pissed by the time their weeks over, it's hard because our working hours are totally oposite. Shame cos it was only going to cost me a slab!
I also know some people who build stages - that was my next idea but was looking to be abit expensive and plus the size... I think your idea is far better, and definatly cheaper, though it's abit too cold right now to practicing outside! Thanks for posting it!

I tried going to the park as well, but it was very hard to hold onto and the only ones that worked were too close together or not tall enough. The pole I bought is cheap metal. You can get it for $10 at a home improvement store. It has the same grip as most of the poles I've used at different SC's. I'm sure you could put it inside, but that would take a bit more innovation. I think for under $50 you could have someone that works at the store cut you the perfect length pole and find a way for you to secure it to the floor and ceiling. Glad I could help

Very cool, I've always admired do-it-yourselfers.

Personally, I'm in an apartment and have no room for all of my clothes, much less a pole with swinging room, so I use the one in the playground at my complex. If I fall, I have a nice sandy landing too!

if you go with iron pole, they have screw in fanges at the hardware store (this is all plumbing supply stuff, tell one of the 40 year old high school boys that work there what you're doing and get alot of help fast!) - a flange on top and one on bottom should secure it to the ceiling/floor really easy.

I built my own stage, similar to the ones Platinum Stages sells, for about $100. I went to the local metal fabricator and asked for a piece of 2" stainless steel pipe, which cost me about $15, then I went to Home Depot and bought a 4x8 sheet of particle board (that house floors are made of), 2x4's, wood screws, wheels, and stick on vinyl floor tiles and built it myself on the back porch. When I'm not using it, the pipe comes out, and voila!!! instant coffee table.

Don't buy iron or galvanized pipe. Buy high polish stainless steel. If you can't get high polish, buy a Craftsman 3D mini sander and some stainless steel polish for $10-15 total. Stainless steel is the only thing that won't turn your hands black and ruin your clothes. DO NOT BUY PIPE FROM A HARDWARE STORE!!! Get it from a metal fabricator like Pacific Steel in Spokane, WA, so that you get stainless pipe. The only thing hardware stores sell is galvanized steel pipe which turns everything that touches it black.

Great idea! I've been looking into buying a pole too, but I have the issues of living in an apartment as well...gotta love that. Anyway, I don't really have a backyard either, but I'm trying to think of some ways to impovise and get a pole in my room that's less than $300. I'm thinking because I need something inside and portable, that I am going to have to break down and buy one.

The pole in the backyard is pretty damn funny. I actually USE a tether ball pole without the ball attached at my best friends house ( the metal hoop at the top is prety annoying sometimes ). If you ever need to explain what the heck a pole is doing in your backyard you can always say it used to be for tether ball, that is if you ever had to explain it to anyone.

Great idea! What do you use to weigh the platform down?

I've got to figure out how to get a non-permanent pole in my apt that won't damage my floors (hardwood)...and I'd really prefer one that comes apart into two (like the l'il mynx one).

    Awesome ideas here!

Anybody tried brass poles ? My brothers a plumber and I had asked him to set one up for me , he thought it was a great idea and was eager to help . I just figured that since most of the ones in the clubs were always brass that would be the best one to use . The flanges are good to use to and I am pretty sure you can get ones that do not leave marks , like the ones they sell on Plat stages ....

Its rad to hear that all of you are perfecting pole work , it seems like so many girls are "forgetting" to perform on stage and I love a good doing a good show .. more money !!

I use traction sand for trucks. Comes in a 70lb bag and costs $2 at Ace Hardware
