The Happy Hooker by Xaviera Hollander is a ho-ing classic.
"She has written so well, and marvellously well, that I was completely ashamed of myself as a writer...But this girl, who is to my knowledge very unpleasant and we might even say a high-grade bitch, can write rings around all of us who consider ourselves as writers"

Tracy Quan writes some good stuff.

MAYFLOWER MADAM by Sydney Biddle Burrows
"This book is about the true story of a respectable American woman who became a 'Madam' who ran several high-class escort businesses and got busted. Not a sleazy type book but well written and thought provoking... and stories of their clients.... judges, barristers, clergy, UN officials, married men...."
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.
Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.
NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.
Working, by Delores French. It's not good, exactly, but it's a first person autobiographical account. Interesting, anyways.

Sex Work: writings by women in the sex industry Edited by Delaoste and Alexander. It has some good writing and some bad. Most of it is comprised of writings by prostitutes. Only of few pieces cover strip clubs.

I hafta call you on it. Only cuz I love ya. You haven't TRIED dancing. You haven't TRIED phone sex. You haven't TRIED bartending. You haven't TRIED domination. You haven't TRIED hooking. You've thought about trying these things and then decided not to.
If you've don research and decided that these things would be bad for you, great! You've avoided a bad experience, congratulate yourself and celebrate! But if all you've done is decide that you can't because someone wrote an article and said you can't... well, fuck them.
Topaz, you CAN do anything you decide to do. It's just the decision.
Lena
Thanks for your honesty Lena!Originally Posted by Lena link=board=10;threadid=12579;start=msg170803#msg17 0803 date=1094507735
Topaz, I have to agree with her here 100%. I am Latina and could easily say the same thing about myself. I know I am light-skinned, but if you saw my face you'd see that I'm far from your midwestern corn-fed farmer's daughter.
Furthermore, I have seen African-American women be successful in all the above mentioned jobs as well as many other ones. The main trait they all had in common was initiative, which can be difficult for some people. I have worked with numerous African-American dancers that banked, and no, they weren't all (or even for the most part) light-skinned. They took care to look their best each night and had fantastic sales skills.
If you are interested in escorting, but are having problems getting work with a reputable agency, you might want to consider PMing Adina. She has worked as an independent escort and can give you info about going that route.
However, your posts have a more than subtle air of man-hating about them. That attitude might be a far bigger hindrance to success in stripping or escorting than race.
Just my
We just wish you the best...

Topaz, I agree with Lena and NinaDaisy. Not to say that race will never be an issue- you know full well that it will at times- but, at the risk of sounding harsh or trite, that's life, you have to deal with it. You can't let it control your life, you have to overcome the obstacles. Achievement against odds is considered by some sociologists as the most effective means towards happiness.
Besides that, it's not like you're the only one with obstacles and everyone else has it easy.
People born into money have it easier than people born poor. People who have traumatic experiences as children have it tougher than those who don't. People born in North America have it easier than people born in Zambia. People who are attractive have it easier than those who aren't...it goes on and on.
Life isn't fair- you can use anything as an excuse, but then you're just wasting life and it's opportunities.

OMG, I don't know what to say, but I hope you don't give up. Life is definately a struggle, more so for some, as mentioned above. My friend, she is broke, has had attempts on her life, has major medical problems & @ least 4 surgeries this year, I think if she can keep goin' so can I.

Topaz, please, please, before you do anything desperate, PM me. Okay?
There are two ways to give up life. One is physically, the other is mentally.
Yes, give up the feelings and the past and the things that give you dispair. Look at yourself and be reborn mentally.
God did not make a mistake when you were created. There is a future for you in this world. Who knows to what good use your pain will be used for. Just give yourself that chance.
There are a lot of people here who can help you. Please let them.
Topaz i do care about people who are having a tough time (remember i also work at a major hospital and have to talk to people and listen before i can get someone trained in a specific area of treatment, rather it be talk or inpatient stay.)
I would be happy to call you, talk and get to know one another.
If you feel better i would give you my number to call me, but since you say you are broke, i would love to talk, call you. trust me i have many problems too. They just are not laid out on the board. Even if you pm'd me a phone booth number for your privacy, i would call to talk

Hi Topaz
I read the Happy Hooker and plan on reading other books just for the knowledge of sex workers, and the other types of sex jobs that are out there. I'm not trying to get into any other type of sex work. I don't even bother to dance any more. I live in Los Angeles and that's the main reason for that. The last club I worked at was in St Thomas VI Of course the island was beautiful, but the club was small and was a basic dive. A lot of pros and extras going on there. I left after two weeks. Although I am considered by many to be pretty, many times due to our very sick and fucked society that is ran mainly by white men, and even in this century, we are still very down on ourselves for our past history and how the world around us can treat us.
PLEASE GET SOME professional help or talk to more friends and relatives that are other than whites or Latins. Some times only WE REALLY KNOW how we feel about these things. I'm not saying that other ethinc groups can't help, but that's just my two cents.
Also, while I was there in St. Thomas I'd never in my life seen so many beautilful African, Black people. I hope some day to visit Africa and I'm sure I'll feel the same pride and beauty there. Meanwhile in LA , I see very attractive and prideful people of all ethinc groups.
no problem. what state are you in? hopefully you are able to find other work and maybe just do dancing on the weekends. guys don't spend much sun-thursday. again depending on where you live. In LA there a couple of all black(African-Amer) dance clubs. Some have extras, others just hard grinding. I've always done office work and strictly danced weekends or one week night only. I'd never would make a living off of just dancing.
Its really hard for any dancer, no matter color or size to make decent money dancing these days. Men simply want a lot more. I also tried massage parlors and found out very fast that if you aren't doing hand jobs, bj's or straight out sex, men won't come back to you and you make no tips. Let me know how things are going for you.![]()
