Default For those of us who eat tofu....

Just finished reading this really great nutrition book and I came across some interesting info on tofu and soy products I thought I'd share. If you do eat tofu its really important to eat some sort of seavegetable (nori, dulse, arame etc) with it as tofu contains a compound that supress thyroid function and the iodine from seaweed helps to balance it out. Also firm and extra firm tofu are alot better than other types. The book recommends eating tofu no more than twice a week and also recommends the use of fermented soy products such as miso and tempeh.
Hopefully some of you will get something from this info... I know I did

I love tofu. I use tofutti sour cream, tofutti ice cream, tofutti cream cheese. It all tastes great. The only problem now is that the personal trainer I've been using tells me not to eat any tofu or soy products because of the way they are grown in the US ? I have no clue what that means, but maybe if Ryan sees this thread he can tell us. I personally think my personal trainer is one of those nutritional purist.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

If you are eating organic soy products you should be ok. I think your trainer may be referring to GM tofu.

THey don't want young woman, not close to menapause to eat to much or drink to much soy products, it contains a lot of estrogen which woman need later in life.
I drink soy in my latte at least twice a day. If you were taking soy supplements a long with eating tofu and drinking soy, that's bad for you. But you can eat it, I prefer a little bit of chicken or seafood presonally.

HELL YEAH!!! It's actually easy to make it.You can get the package mix from the grocery store and add tofu to it.Or if you want make it from scratch perse,Miso base comes in a bottle, all you do then is mix the proper amount with water, seaweed, seasonings and tofu, then there you'll have it!

Whats the name of the book Krys ? I am interested in reading it. I am a veggie and used to eat tofu of some kind at least 4 times a day.
My cancer and symptoms were getting worse, so we decided to eliminate as much tofu/soy products as possible. I am happy to say that I am getting better.
I never knew tofu could do so much harm to the body of a younger woman. Too bad products don't come with warning labels.

you don't want to take in more than 25 gm of soy protein a day ladies...less than that may be better...more than that can cause problems...

when i first moved out here...i was eating more than 50 gm of soy protein...developed cysts in my right breast...and had very heavy/painful periods...after i cut down...my female problems decreased...i still have some problems...but then again...i'm still working on fine tuning my diet (i'm a vegetarian)...and i'm trying to get back into the gym...not very motivatied though...

I agree Farrah food should come with labels!
The book is called 'the food connection' by Sam Graci
He also has a book called power of superfoods, I am sure you will enjoy both of them.
(both of them are avaliable on amazon).
Let me know how you go. xo

I dont eat tofu that much, generally only when my husband cooks, but I do LOVE soy. I crave it. we cook with soymilk, and I use soymilk in place of cow milk whenever.... we also eat gardenburger, boca, and morningstar a lot. I would be fine with just veggies, but my husband has trouble letting go of meat and he is actually the one who goes and buys the veggie "meat" all the time......
