You're not really gonna get the right impression of the clubs this time of year, since NOLA is dead in summer, especially August.

Most dancers will tell you to work at the Gold Club (where OTB and I used to work, though I don't recall meeting her), Rick's, Hustler or Temptations.

I've only ever worked at the Gold Club, but I've met girls that couldn't make shit there and went to Rick's instead, or couldn't make money at Rick's but banked at Hustler. Take a few days to figure out which place suits you best.

Gold Club is off Bourbon St., but fees are low. Hustler and Rick's have higher fees but have more foot traffic coming off Bourbon St.

Grew up in NOLA and still spend much time there. If you're not from there or don't have somebody from there to show you the "boundaries," make friends with a concierge in one of the better hotels IMMEDIATELY and get him to sit down and very carefully walk you through the layout of the city on a map. For the most part, New Orleans is a great place and so long as you don't stray too far afield from the beaten path you're about as safe as you'll be in any other city..... BUT, if you make a mistake, which, in NOLA, can mean something as seemingly harmless as walking a block in the wrong direction, you can get yourself killed very easily - especially in the Quarter at 3 or 4 in the morning.

Seriously - take the time to learn where NOT to go, and if you make a wrong turn, BACK UP - never, ever try to just "find your way through."

GreenBeret is correct. I got to NOLA fairly often for fun, and can think of at least 3 distinict situations offhand where a friend from our group made that wrong turn and got robbed and beaten. Luckily, none of them were hurt.

When I was there during Jazzfest a few months ago, a man was robbed and shot waiting for a taxi just down the street from the concert about 15 minutes after we had hailed a taxi on that very corner.

Good luck, I think I am going to try the Gold Club during convention this fall.
