It's amazing that people buy computers based on sheer aesthetics.

That's funny, Casual.
Who said that the aesthetics of the computer had anything to do with it, to date it is equipped with the fastest processer available. I have my PC for such purposes of everyday computing and gaming (what it is designed for) and my mac for graphic design and desktop publishing (Two of it's highpoints)...So I hope you weren't talking about me, because it would be completely inaccurate. And since I have the G4 already...and it's already crazy fast, and only got it about a year ago, I have no plans to go out and splurge on the G5....haha, unless it was financed for me.
Other than your love for overpriced paperweights, you're a pretty cool chick![]()

Hey, Tiff, cool. Btw, thanks for showing the pic. I thought it was about a guy too. Actually, in many respects, it's probaly better. Hee! You're right about the graphics & stuff, have seen job ads requesting knowledge of the Macs. Take care, enjoy.

Yes! Another Mac Fan! I have a G4 15" Powerbook SuperDrive 512MB Ram (needed for the compiler)... soon I found myself a 23" cinema display and keyboard and iSight.
When I first bought the Powerbook, I was coming from a Dell - I was plenty worried, but then again, I tend to do most of my programming work on UNIX/Linux and I figured, well, it is a UNIX based computer so I should have a clue.
I was quite pleased - I kept the Windows cludge out for a while but never touched it after turning on the Mac.
I was just tired of all the BS regarding windows and decided to go UNIX, and the Apple happened to be UNIX.

Tiff,
It looks exactly like a makeover-machine I saw at a NyMUG meeting in 1987 or so, except the guts to that were a Mac IIc and it cost $6-7K if I remember right.

My SO is totally in love with that computer as well...But, I'm not about to get it for him...it's hard enough spending any "quality" time with him. LOL
Yep Macs are far more superior when it comes to graphics. I'm still working with the G3, the ones that came in all those colors, mines blue. Yeah I got it cuz of the way it looks but that wasn't my main reason. Macs were also easier to learn, since that was my fist computer. I really liked it but now I feel a little behind the times. It's slow, the speakers shot, and the mouse doesn't work like it should. I'd love to get the new one. It's hella tight!
Don't tell Adobe that...Yep Macs are far more superior when it comes to graphics.

Every graphic designer I know uses a Mac.
I am definitely getting one of these lovlies.
They are cheap, too. 1800!!!

Are you really into Jakob Neilson? I have a feeling that Raul Montana is.
Don't know. Just a hunch.
He writes a pretty catchy tune, but I can't dance to it.Mojo!

I work on both systems, NAT...and have for years. The whole "Macs are better for graphics" bit is an old standard that has stuck around as some sort of urban legend. I have yet to run into something that a Mac can do that a PC cannot regarding everything, including graphics. According to the graphics artists I know, this is supported. I have read that Macs with OSX won't crash, but that has not been my experience. The OSX (while spiffy) is not as compatible with older software as XP typically is. Connectivity with the PC seems smoother and more stable.
Now, I will give credit where it is due. There aren't too many Macintosh viruses around.
That's all I have for it, however. My big problem with the Mac has always been the lack of ability to get into the system and fix things. When it's broken....it's broken. With my PC, I can do all kinds of nifty things to restore the system.
I'd love to hear how the Mac is better, though. Anyone? I mean...other than that "sexy" thing![]()

Mac OSX is UNIX-based and if you want to write UNIX scripts and "get into the system", you may.
I've had my G4 iMac for almost 2 years now and have not had a single crash, whereas my former Compaqs saw the BSOD (blue screen of death) on numerous occasions. This is a big deal for me. I guess it goes along with the weird concept of having a operating system manufactured by the same company that designed the CPU.
The Mac isn't perfect. The IBM clones aren't perfect. But for what most people do with a computer (internet stuff, word processing, downloading, playing games) it really doesn't matter what platform you do it on. Why not choose based on aesthics and reliability?
