Thanks Green. Most guys who think it would be "cool" to be a DJ in this biz think all they have to do is "spin" (as we talked about on the other board). I realy dont know of ONE good strip club dj who "spins". Could you imagine??? Drunken dancer (or Dj...er...yeah) bumping into the turntable???? Lets just play a game next time at work....how many times would the needle skip.

if the club has a good set up bumping into the turntables wouldnt be a problem. usually they are suspended by springs, rubber bands or something similiar. i can literally take a turntable and give it a shove and it will sit there and bounce withouot skipping.
Me i normally use a denon dual CD player 2 or 3 techniques 1200 turntanles and a rane mixer. Although since im not spinning anywhere on a regular basis i hvaen't bought vinyl in a while and just stick to CD's. id still prefer vinyl to any of it.

A couple of years ago I had to do a set choreography piece with other dancers, and the choreographer had the bright idea to bring the vinyl version of the song to the club. Guess where the stage was? Yep, right by the DJ booth - and that needle skipped so many times the show was a joke.

We have the following in the booth: 2X Technics tables (seldom used) and a twin rack with a mackie board, parasound 3 way X-over, and 2X Dual GV CD decks. In the cabinet there are 6X Peavey and 4X Crown amps.

On channel 6 of the mackie board we have an old P3 800 computer with SB Live and THATS what we use 99% of the time. The future is now.

Pioneer CDJ-100 CD mixers, Gemini 626 Mixer, custom built PC recording studio. I am a club DJ and actually mix songs. A SC DJ does not actually mix. Their job is to handle music in the appropraite timed sections, and MC the ladies. There is a huge difference.

Funny how different things are. A friend of mine spun in a club in Italy last summer. They wont let you bring CDs into a club. It all has to be vinyl. they are very strict against downloading music over there.

i still have my cd's, but i'm about 50% computer right now, thanks to the honorable philly_dj. ive been doing this for over a decade and yeah turntables are just not a clever idea in a SC. i've used them, trust me. suspend them from bungees all you want, theyre gonna skip. it's a whole different animal.

i actually started out dj'ing in 'real" clubs, spinning vinyl, so i do know how to do it. but i can mix just as well with cd's, as can i think anyone who has any clue what theyre doing. i made the move to SC's because, well, i have a great voice, and i like booze, money and naked girlies more than watching people wave glowsticks around and dance badly. a funny story: there's a pretty snobbish record store here in philly that caters almost exclusively to the club dj set, and all they have is vinyl. i still have vinyl at home, so i was in there looking for something, some anthony rother 12'' i think. anyway, the guy goes "oh where do you spin?" and when i said "delilah's" he replied "OH...so you're not a "real" DJ then." and got really shitty with me. my answer was "nope. but i made 900 bucks last night and looked at titties while customers bought me drinks. HOW WAS YOUR NIGHT?". and you know, he didnt have much to say to that. >:~)
