Default Something going around?

Wow.. Alright.. Some of you may remember that my daughter was rushed to the ER a couple weeks back with a very high fever. Luckily, she got over it and got rid of whatever it was.

My Ex-Husband and his new wife (well, not really new, about 5 years now) rushed their little girl to the hospital recently, she was just a couple months shy of her 4th birthday. Her fever had spiked to 106 while at the hospital. After bloodwork and various tests, the doctors came to the conclusion that it was bacterial, and that nothing more could be done for her. My ex and his wife signed her out and took her home, and figured they would just give her children's motrin throughout the night, and it would clear up. She was dead the next morning. She died sometime in the night, laying right there between them.

I just can't believe it. My older 2 children lost a sister. They're dealing with it the best that they can, but it's extremely difficult.

I couldn't help but break down and cry when I heard this. Not only because it could have been my daughter, but for my other daughter & son. I'm not particularly fond of the new wife, but I can't even begin to imagine what she's going through. She has to bury her little 3 year old daughter.

I guess we are extremely lucky that Delia turned out alright. It's just a really really small world. I couldn't believe it when I heard, that it was the same type of thing that we had rushed Delia in for.

Guess I just had to get this out. Thanks for listening.

Sometimes children die. That is the sad truth of the thing. My brother lost two children. One to SIDS and one because she had a bad heart.

I do believe in "super bugs" though. People get a little cough or hot and all of a sudden they are given these antibotics instead of being told to sleep it off (oh my god - miss work and be uncomfortable!) Before you know it, bug evolution.

I once heard of a study where all these anti-bacterial products were actually hurting people because their immune systems never had anything to practice on.

I also wonder about all the pollution and what that means. Actually, I am pretty sure about what that means, but no one seems to want to take it seriously.

That's the thing though, Deogol.. She showed absolutely no signs of being sick at all. Not even a cough, or runny nose. They even said that she was perfectly fine throughout the night after they brought her home, with the exception of the fever.
They said she was playing, and even laughing. So they figured it was safe just to have her sleep with them, and turn in for the night.

They didn't give her any medication at the hospital, because after the bloodwork had come back, they had found that whatever it was, was already in her bloodstream. I guess the hospital may have known what was going to happen, but they didn't want to ruin my ex's hopes that she would pull through it.

It's just extremely sad, that a perfectly healthy 3 year old is here one day, and gone the next.

Thank you for your condolences, Verfolgung. I will pass them on to my ex and his wife.

Rhia that sucks! I feel not only for your ex and his wife, but for your kids and you as well. I am close to my ex's child and his wife as well. I f anything happened to either of them, it would really hurt me too.

I'm sure in some way the hospital could be responsible for her untimely death. I know up here, if you have a fever over 99.5 they have to keep you till the fever goes down no matter what. Did they check for megenitius (sp). It"s what has been killing alot of college kids recently. And yes it is bacterial. It starts out as a high fever and can act like a cold or the flu. The next thing you know you will be incapacated or dead.

Again my condolences to you and yours.

Have you had to sit down and explain this to your oldest yet? I can't imagine how I would.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

Thank you Kitana. I think they had ruled out the Meningitis. They mentioned the name of something, and it's extremely rare, but I can't remember the name of it.

I just can't imagine what I'd do if I was put in their shoes. No one should ever have to bury their child.

Thank you again, hon.

Rhia, oh my god sweetie, that is terrible! I am so sorry. Children should never die! I can't stand that. I don't know how I would live without my son. The near thought of it kills me! At least the family is lucky to have you in their lives to help them through this tough time. :'(

Thank you Vaden. That means a great deal to me.

My ex had asked me to perform the burial rite for them (They're not Christian, so they aren't having a church funeral or anything, just a graveside ceremony). I didn't feel that I could, I'm too emotional and it's just too close for me. I referred them to someone who would, though, so I couldn't leave them hanging.

Muyaha.. Unfortunately, I've only spoken to my kids on the phone. They live in a different state (my ex and I share custody). What sucks is that they just left last week after spending a month here with us. They seem to be doing alright, aside from being sad about it. They call every night, just to talk. I think that's helping them, because they just need to get it out. My son was initially very angry, and wanted to lash out at anyone or anything. My daughter was more on the reserved side, and got very silent.

I'll probably be taking a trip down there shortly, but it won't be for the burial. I don't think I could handle that type of thing well at all. And if I can't handle it, I'd be of no use to my kids or anyone else. His parents are flying out there for the burial, and they may be bringing my kids back for a bit, we'll wait and see how they do.

Thank you all again for your words.

Well, hun again I'm sorry to hear about it. Since she did have something rare, have you set up an appt. with the DR. to teast and see if the other kids have it too? It might be on her mothers side or the kids fater, if so then your kids might be at risk as well. Just a thought.

Anyway, hope all will get better soon!

We are always here for you,

Kitana

I know, BigGreen. I can't imagine how the two of them are struggling to deal with this. I definitely couldn't, I know that. I'm strong, but not strong enough to lose a child like that.

Apparently, they signed her out AMA after being advised by the doctors that there was nothing more that they could do for her. I think in a way the hospital knew, and in some way they knew too. But, they had hopes that she would make it. Being that it was a Military hospital, they also had to fight to take her home.

Kitana, both of my kids and her son have been seen by their doctor, and everything checks out. They're going to see about testing my ex's wife, just to see if it's something she was carrying when she was pregnant with the girl. They suspect it's something genetic, but they're not 100%. There was talk about an autopsy, but I haven't asked about it, I think it's better for me not to ask. I'd hate to even think about it.

yeah, I hate how much they give out antibodoics... they gave me a bottle before my surgery, and I wasnt even sick!!!! I refused to take them though. instead I took olive leaf.

another bad thing about antibodics besides the super-bug, and the not helping yourself thing. is that they are indiscriminet, they will kill the good bacterica as well as the bad. then when the good are gone, the bad have an extra window that you just handed them! a friend of mine complains of getting yeast infections everytime her doctor gives her antibodics.

I belive in my bodies ability to heal itsself, if given the right tools... pain does not mean I need a pain med, it means something is wrong and I should not hide it I should fix it. fever is not a problem, but a soulotion. viruses have a very low tolernece for temputure changes. they really only like 98.6 or so. thats why they cant live outside the body long, and why they die from fever.

it just drives me nuts when doctors treat the symptoms and not the problem.

My heart goes out to your 2 eldest and to you ex and his wife, I talk a lot of shit about my kids and how I treat them but I don't even want to pretend I can sympathize...I can't imagine the feeling of loss you all must have

I totally know what you mean! My daughter had a fever of 102 a couple of months ago. I called her doctor (never happened to me before) and he said that I should just give her a little bit of Children's Tylenol...but should let the body do what it needs to do. I gave her tylenol, and within a few hours, she was fine (temp-wise)...although she still had a fever, she wasn't as uncomfy. I let her sleep as much as she wanted, pushed some fluids and cuddled up with her for the ride. Her fever completely broke a day later and when I took her to the doc for her check-up...he said that she had probably gotten a "virus" and just needed to let her body recognize it, fight it, and become more "immune" to it.

I myself quit taking any kinds of medicine a long time ago. When my labor was induced, I allowed them to give me antibiotics...but, knowing what I know now...I won't let that happen ever again. My daughter is not vaccinated...by choice, because I just do not trust the "vaccines" and have known a couple of friends who've had "trouble" with their children after vaccines.

In this day and age, we are so worried about getting sick that we make ourselves sick. It's a vicous cycle, unfortunately.

Thank you all for your kind words. I'll most certainly pass them along to them. I went to my mother's house today and saw some recent pictures of her. She was absolutely beautiful, and looked a little like my oldest daughter.

I spoke to my ex a little while ago. They seem to be doing surprisingly well. Where they've found the courage to keep going, I don't know. Actually, I do know, they have to keep moving because of my 2 kids, and her son.

I thank you all again. We (all of us) appreciate it more than you can know.

I am so sorry to hear this.

My brother fell into a coma when he was 6 from Meningococcal Meningitis (sp?). Luckily he survived, but those were some agonizing weeks.

You have my deepest condolences. I don't even have any kids yet, but I can't even fathom the profound pain your ex-husband and his wife are feeling. This death has obviously touched many people. There's just something so wrong about children dying, for any reason.
