    Default hair, botched

I went this past Tues. to salon & beautician I've been going to for the past 1 1/2 yrs. This place, they way overhighlighted my hair. I went back, complained & got a refund from the owner. It still is upsetting so I'm in the process of writing a letter to salon, & am considering suing, or possibly contacting Better Bus. Bureau. I deep conditioned twice already, must wear hat/scarves out pretty much due to the hot sun . I ordered a couple deep conditioners from Sephora. :'(

when you say overhighlighted, do you mean it is too light? If it's too light, low lights would help correct that.

Did they not offer to fix it for you? Or did you just not want them touching your hair anymore?

Saph, they did offer to fix it. I refused, & got refund, since they already f*cked it up, & they waaay over highlighted it. + it's very long. The operator who did it, I had gone to for over a year, she knows me & my hair. She was training someone, working on others @ the same time. I have been deep conditioning, & using leave in treatments.

Hun can't you fade some of those highlights with hot oil treatments? Hair always looks lighter (is actually) the first week, then fades some. Don't know if you want a faded look unles it meets your colouring you wanted for highlights.

Good luck, Keep the warm conditioners on.

Well, I wouldn't suggest suing them, as they did give you a refund and have offered to correct the problem. Looking at it that way, you will most likely not win the case...

It's extremely distressing to have any mess up your hair. It'll be dry for a little while...but just make sure that you condition it really well...wear protection on your hair when you're going to be in the sun for prolonged periods of time...and take them up on their offer to fix the problem...on ONE condition...that the stylist have NOTHING else going on at that time...no training...no other clients, etc.

    Good luck!

I have experienced so many hair disasters so i can sympathise hun.

The first time i bleached my hair ( my self ) the results were bloody disastrous, my hair came out orange and CRISP!!! Anyhoo i know a lot about hair care and so i was able to repair the damage i had done. I simply applied a temporary wash-in-colour and used hair mayo mixed with egg, until i was able to restore my hairs natural condition. I did this 2x a week for a month, before going to a qualified, hair colourist/technician.

I'm also not sure as to whether they just stripped your hair colour too much, making it too light or if they over high-lighted your hair causing it to become dry and brittle. If it is the latter, than i suggest using hair mayonnaise (or regular mayo ) mixed with an egg. I often mix an egg with my regular deep conditioners/treatments, place a pastic cap over my hair and then wrap a towel around my head, to keep the warmth in...... does wonders for my hair!

TY, all. Seraya, they way overhighlighted it, + put a lighter base color @ roots, (causing scalp irritation). Pluse left it on too long. I just feel that getting my $ is NOT enough after what they did. They knew me as a long-term customer. The stylist, she teaches classes in color.

There really isn't any way to "fix" damage, only make it appear better with lots of conditioning. Even if you took them to court, I'm not sure how much value a judge would put on hair that will grow out. I had to cut off 6 inches because of an ex-stylist's screw -up. I had to threaten to stand in her waiting area and show everybody who walked in her screw-up to get my money back. She actually tried to claim she "Deed note doo thot "--(from another country). Yeah right, I got kidnapped by aliens on my way home and in addition to stealing eggs from my ovaries and doing experiments, they decided to re-cut my hair....

Whirlez I was also thinking of suggesting you add the temporary darker color to your hair like seraya suggested. But make sure your hair is in at least ok condition first. Temporary color isn't nearly as harmful as permanent hair color but since you just ligtened quite a bit now may not be the best time to do it.

I had a horrible hair disaster about 2 1/2 years ago. I went to an expensive salon and had highlights and a few lowlights put in. After the color I'm at the shampoo bowl and the shampooer calls the styliest over to look at something in my hair then I think she goes to get scissors. When I'm back at the stylist's station she kept telling me "my hair was WAY too long", I have bad hair and I had to cut it. I said "No way." I pay the expensive $200 for the color plus give her a tip. (SHe didn't even quote me a price beforehand either.)

When I get home I notice that my hair in the back which is 1/3-1/2 of my hair only goes down to the base of my neck, is 7 inches shorter than the rest of my hair. Either the stylist overprocessed my hair and it fell out at the bottom or there had been a tangle and she had been too lazy to get it out and cut it out. I was so sad. It's taken me about 2 1/2 years to grow my back hair back and its still 2 inches shorter than the rest. I'll never get my hair colored in a salon again. I hope this story makes you feel better whirliez. Your hair can be fixed unlike hair that's been cut I just had to wait for it to grow back.

Spongey ends syndrome... this is what I have... and a result from chlorine from swimming, and the sun and a flat iron.. then comes the worst of all.. I got a horrible haircut (this new stylist made my wispies too wispy so when the chlorine started penetrating my hair, it wasn't strong enough to take it).. so I had to cut it from below my shoulders to above my shoulders...

Use some olive oil- it does help soften the hair- put on a shower cap and sleep overnight (someone else posted a thread on this) I've tried everything expensive on my hair and honestly, olive oil is bringing my hair back to life..

I agree with Seraya as well- try to do another color, but wait until a week or so has passed so it doesn't get that "over processed" look.

    Good luck

CC, so sorry to hear about that, you're right, it's even way worse to wait for "grow back". THANK YOU all, so much for posting! Means a lot to me, really. Anyway, been on 'net, looking @ mags. for new product info. One name that keeps coming up, Keratase, a french line specially for damaged hair. Also, been on longhairlovers.com, they sell a leave-in product w/sunscreen & Vit. E. Can be used on scalp. They also post many home receipes for hair, tips, etc. I might go tomorrow, or this wk., downtown, there's a store that sells very specialized hair products, & makeup, unavailable anywhere else. Sorta like a mini Sephora.

I'm sorry as well. I second that motion regarding olive oil. Try it out! Also, protect your hair from the sun if you are in it--Joico K-pak serum helps protect hair from UV rays, as does Biosilk Silk Therapy.
