Default HELP! (first night working w/ cramps)

so, its my first night working with my period. no problem with the tampon issue, but i have terrible, crippling cramps. i don't feel sexy, i feel like curling up in a ball, and if i don't have heat on my belly, i feel like dying. i've taken midol, i've got on a little heating pad, i've eaten both chocolate and parsley for their painkilling and emagogic properties respectively, and yet i'm still hurting pretty badly.

my club is SERIOUSLY air conditioned, to the point of being absolutely frigid if you're not on stage working your ass off, and i know its just going to complicate it. if i go to work, i HAVE to be on the floor (house mom does not like us hanging out in the dressing room all night) and i need to make money for rent, anyway.

so, what do you girls do when you've got cramps and you have to work? does anyone have any tips for what i can do to grit my teeth and get through seven hours of work?

    Codeine.

It's the only thing that ever killed my cramps completely.

And, longer term (for next time), cutting sugar out of your diet and taking flax and evening primrose oils every day (both) seriously helps eliminate cramps. Eliminating caffeine apparently helps too, but I haven;t tried that .

But I used to have crippling, nauseating cramps that wouldn;t allow me to even move (NO WAY I could have even considered working), and now I barely notice them- Ibuprofen does the trick if I do. I'm pretty sure cutting out sugar andadding the GLA oils did the trick.

I try to avoid working in schedule clubs, and often take the first day of my period off.

I've had hellish, crippling cramps too, the kind that are only killed by Vicodin. Scarlett had some good suggestions. Increasing calcium intake also helps many women, me among them.

Viactiv calcium chews are great, IMO!

I second the codeine, only thing that helped me, and to this day, the only thing that works when I get migraines. Unfortunately in the US, I understand that you need a prescription to get any forms of codeine, so it would require a doctors visit. In Canada, we can buy tylenol #1 over the counter. I used to take anaprox for cramps, but ended up with a bleeding ulcer from them, the NSAIDs can be really hard on the tummy. I've heard that exercise can lessen cramps as well, but you need to be able to get off the couch to actually try it, something I never could do. Hope you made out ok!

lots of advil, lots of water, and something with caffeine in it beforehand.

Ask the management if they will let you stay offstage. Stage on period often gives me major uncessary anxieties.

Have a few cocktails and take it easy. You will still make $$ because your body is eminating lots of phermones. Banking often makes me forget about my cramps, hehe. good luck!

Muscle relaxers work great for my cramps. I used to get very bad crippling cramps when I had my IUD. A soma or 2 and I am golden.

    you can also take clomid.

doctors prescribe this as a fertility drug for men and women.

it also has shown to reduce menstrual cramps and reduce bleeding.

Extra Strength Vicodine became a very good friend of mine, since i also suffer from ocassional ovarian cyst ruptures. The Vicodine makes you feel damn good, keeps the pain away for hours at a time, but slightly addictive if your prone to headaches or anything of that sort so be careful if you can get your hands on some, Ask your GYN maybe to perscribe you something

I use Celebrex or Ponstel, both work pretty good.

I can't add to the immediate cures. However taking liquid, citrified calcium throughout the month has significantly cut down on my cramps and menstrual problems in general. My GP/Homeopath turned me on to that.
