Default decreasing body fat... question for the pros

Hi guys,

Just hoping for some advice...

I am 5'3 117pounds about 21% bodyfat. I am not looking at competing or anything serious at this stage but want to work on decreasing my body fat. (I know my abs are under there somewhere ) What is a realistic bodyfat to aim for and what is the best way to get there, at this stage I aim heading for 110 pounds 17% does that sound feasible?. I have read various things on cardio and how carbs affect it and would appreciate anything anybody could add.

Thanks,
k

Well, cardio and carbs are only part of the solution. You need to gain more LMM (lean muscle mass)...which means weight lifting. Don't think that weight lifting is only for competitors...it's for everybody. The more lean muscle mass you have, the more effectively your body burns fat. That's the most important aspect, eating healthy foods is secondly important and cardio is in third. You need to do them all as a routine to see any results. I highly recommend the Body For Life book...I use it with the Eating For Life and I love them both!

Also, you may want to incorporate Yoga or Pilates...helps stretch and lengthen the muscles...

Hope that helped!

a good way to lower your body fat is a good work out and changing your diet. You should not eat too many carbs and should eat 6 small meals minimum a day. when you eat more meals you speed up your metabolism thus helping you burn fat.

For me, it is really hard to get anything close to 6 meals a day in. I have classes all day long with 15 minute breaks in between (during which I have to make 20 minute walks!!). I've tried energy bars, but they always seem high and calories (albeit good ones) and I overdose (well not really but you know what I mean) on all the vitamins. Do you hae any other suggestions?

I already lift weights 3 times a week, abs 3 times per week plus cardio a minimum of 4 times a week. I am only into my second week with that so I should really be paitent and I am sure I will see some results soon.
Oh I also do yoga for 1.5 hours at least 4-5 days a week which is something I have done for a long time now.....
Guess I am just being impatient...

try protien shakes. you can use them as a meal replacement. you can get a shaker bottle and dump in the powder and shake it up with water or low fat milk and drink away while in class

I don't know hun, when I lost my wieght I stopped drinking everything but water, and just watched what I ate and worked out about 5 days a week. 117lbs, and 5'3" isn't bad at all.

I myself am 5'4" and weigh 128lbs. So I really can't say too much. But I'm happy with my weight, and you sound fine.

Good Luck!

Oh, Hard try taking a little container of grapes, or raisins, or veggies or something like that to munch on during inbetween classes. It will count as a meal for the 6 a day purpose, and it's still healthy and you can fit it in your backpack

krys~~

everyone has given good advice here..

I know you are not competing in bodybuilding, but you should research dieting methods and follow along... the last 2-4 weeks prior to thier show, they focus on cardio and dropping bodyfat...

There are a few suggestions...

Cardio~ bump cardio to one hour per day, do this in the morning. when you first get up. your body has nothing in its system, and you will begin to burn fat and calories off at a much faster rate.

Food~ start your meals as soon as you get up. and space out small meals throughout the day at 2 to 3 hr intervals. dont up your food, but take what you would normally eat and split it into 6-8 meals in the day. keep away from sugars, breads, pasta, and any high carb snacks. what this will do, is turn your body into a human furnace. your body will constantly be breaking down food all day, which speeds up your metabolism, and will decrease bodyfat.

**no meals after 8pm.

Water- the more water a day you drink, the better you will feel and look. It will also help flush your body, and in turn help you get leaner. On a good day, I will drink a gallon of water. After a few weeks you will notice a difference in your body.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

If you need quick results, you can always mix some clenbuterol in to help speed things up.

Clenbuterol- read below

**Clenbuterol is attractive for it's pronounced thermogenic effects as well as mild anabolic properties.

A number of medical reviews have cited its outstanding potential to promote muscle gains as well as fat loss and weight loss.

There have been an increasing number of American bodybuilders that are experimenting with this drug.

Many athletes who use Clenbuterol claim that it promotes dramatic strength increases and a very noticeable reduction in body fat and weight loss.
Some athletes claim that they enjoyed significant gains in muscle mass while using clenbuterol. Clenbuterol's most valid application seems to be as a pre-contest, cutting drug. It is not banned by any athletic committee; thus, numerous professional bodybuilders have used it for the last month of contest preparation. Cycles range from 6-12 weeks in length. Side effects include nervousness, tremors of the hands, headaches, and insomnia. The reason although it is fairly anabolic, and it promotes the burning of fatty acids through brown fat burning.

Dosages are normally between 20-120 mcg for bodybuilders that use this. This drug becomes ineffective for its anabolic properties after 18 successive days of use. Brown fat-burning and Weight Loss, will continue past the 18 day period. After 12 weeks, the drug should be discontinued for a couple of months. lthough there is quite a bit of medical literature showing clenbuterol's potential as a bodybuilding drug, most of these studies have been done on animals; very little human data on this issue is available. Therefore, in assessing its effects in humans, you have to rely primarily on empirical and anecdotal evidence. And until recently, there has been little of that available. However, with the recent wide scale use of clenbuterol by athletes, we can now gather quite a bit of evidence on what the real world effects of clenbuterol are in weight trainers.

To say that clenbuterol use is rampant in bodybuilding right now would be an understatement. Thousands and thousands of athletes are using this drug. I personally know a number of pro football players, foreign Olympic athletes, and professional bodybuilders who are using clenbuterol. In addition, I have received feedback from at least 200 other athletes who have experimented with this novel compound. Generally, the feedback from clenbuterol users is that the drug produces dramatic body composition alterations. One Canadian strength coach compared the results he has seen in athletes using clenbuterol to what one might experience while using a stack of Anavar and Halotestin. Within weeks of beginning clenbuterol therapy, many athletes notice a significant strength increase and a dramatic reduction in body fat. The results that occur secondary to clenbuterol administration seem to occur equally in men and women as well as young and old.

The trick to using clenbuterol successfully seems to be avoidin receptor downgrade which occurs rapidly with the use of this beta agonist. In fact, one clinical study s owe at receptor downgrade as much as 50% is experienced after using clenbuterol for as little as 18 days consecutively. This same study showed that attenuation can be avoided if clenbuterol is taken in a 2 day on 2 day off pattern. Athletes using clenbuterol in this manner have reported much greater results than those who use the product continualy which seems to support the theory that attenuation can be at least partially avoided by staggering the dosage. Athletes have also made a habit of cycling clenbuterol in an effort to minimize side effects as well as prevent receptor downgrade. Average cycle length on clenbuterol is 8-10 weeks with a 4-6 week off period.

Pazzo- just be careful with replacing meals with a shake or bar. I would stick to using them post workout, when your body needs it most, and in the case where you have no time for a meal.

Consider shakes and bars as pre-digested protien, meaning that your body does not have to work to break down the food, as it does with steak, chicken, fish or turkey. Its really good for getting nutrients, and protein in your system quick.

What happens if you replace meals with shakes or these pre-digested protiens, your body is not working as hard to break it down, and in turn, your metabolism will slow down.

Keeping the 6 meals per day, turns your body into a human furnace, constantly working to break down the food, and upping your metabolism. Just keep that idea in mind when planning your meals.
